History of the Taifa kingdoms - Los Reinos de Taifas (animated map) 1009-1031 part 1
The taifas were the independent Muslim principalities of the Iberian Peninsula (modern Portugal and Spain), then known as al-Andalus, that emerged from the decline and fall of the Umayyad Caliphate of Córdoba between 1009 and 1031.

Why did the Caliphate of Cordoba Collapse?
The Rise and Collapse of the Caliphate of Cordoba
By 756, the remaining Umayyad leader, Abd al-Rahman I, outright refused to acknowledge the authority of the Abbasid Caliphate. Instead, he managed to depose the Abbasid rulers in the area and proclaimed the capital of Umayyad Iberia, Córdoba, to be an independent emirate, known as the Emirate of Córdoba. Much to Rahman’s pleasure, he was able to do so without much pushback, and he and his descendants became the rulers of this new Emirate for many decades to come. While these emirs technically only ruled over Córdoba itself, many of them actually extended their authority throughout more of the peninsula.

How did the Reconquista Actually Happen?
How did the Reconquista Actually Happen?
While many people are aware of Iberia’s religious history including the infamous Spanish Inquisitions, not so many are aware that neither Spain nor Portugal was always controlled by Christian Europeans. In fact, there was a period of almost 8 centuries that marked a tireless power struggle between the Christian Kingdoms and Muslim Caliphates.

The town known as "Malaka" by the Phoenicians was transformed into a prosperous commercial centre. After the Muslim invasion of the 8th century, the territory became Arabised and later became part of the Nasrid kingdom in Granada, when...

Málaga is located in the south of the Mediterranean coast, between the provinces of Granada and Cadiz, and bordering the provinces of Cordoba and Seville in the north. In long-gone times it bore witness to the history of man and of the Mediterranean culture, and is today the primary force in the Andalusian tourist industry, keeping alive its tradition of a welcoming and creative land.
The town known as "Malaka" by the Phoenicians was transformed into a prosperous commercial centre. After the Muslim invasion of the 8th century, the territory became Arabised and later became part of the Nasrid kingdom in Granada, when it underwent a new period of commercial and cultural prominence.
Málaga underwent rapid economic growth in the second half of the 20th century, thanks to the tourism industry. Every year millions of citizens from all over the world choose this idyllic land to relax on its sun-drenched beaches, discover its rich architectural heritage or explore the wild beauty of its mountain geography.
The province of Málaga has over 160 kilometres of coastline. A total of 14 districts are located directly on the Mediterranean Sea. You can find secluded enclaves set in unspoilt nature, as well as more established tourist resorts. The beaches in both the eastern and the western part of the province are so attractive they have made the Costa del Sol one of the top international destinations.
Here are some things to do in Málaga City:
1. Visit Teatro Romano de Málaga and Alcazaba (The Fortress)
2. Explore museums such Museo Carmen Thyssen, Museo Picasso and more!
3. Check out Málaga Cathedral and appreciate its beauty inside and out
4. Enjoy local gastronomy like tapas and more at Atarazanas Market

Cars swept away in Malaga, Spain today, Red Warning Issued for Heavy Rain and Flooding
Malaga on red alert due to torrential rains: overflows and flooding due to the DANA. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated the red warning of extreme risk for torrential rains in the Sol and Guadalhorce regions in the province of Malaga, where the rainfall has been occurring with intensity since early last night.
The red alert will remain active from 12:00 to 16:00 hours, when rainfall of 120 mm could accumulate in 12 hours, while from the afternoon, Aemet expects the rains to subside. Emergency services have responded to more than 70 incidents during the early hours of Tuesday morning, specifically from late Monday to early Tuesday morning, due to the storm and heavy rainfall recorded in the province of Malaga.
For their part, the Provincial Fire Brigade (CPB) and the road maintenance workers of the Malaga Provincial Council have registered 35 interventions in all the regions of the province due to the heavy rains that have been falling since last night. This situation has caused classes to be suspended at the CEIP Nescania in Valle de Abdalajís due to the flooding of the centre. The same has happened at the CEIP Federico García Lorca in the town of Barranco de Zafra, in the locality of Almogía.

Cartojal - The Wine of the Malaga Feria
August in Malaga means one thing - the Feria of Malaga.
Ten long hot days full of music, dancing and fun from dawn until dusk. During the days of the Feria, the characteristic pink and white spotted Cartojal bottles are passed from hand to hand, chilled white wine is poured into traditional fuchsia pink cups, toasts are made and the laughter is endless.
For years, Cartojal has been the drink of choice for the revellers of Malaga’s Feria.
Today we meet the family behind Malaga’s Feria favourite wine, their history, stories and traditions and also some background on how the Cartojal wine came to be.
