A belt course, also called a stringcourse or sillcorse, is a continuous row or layer of stones or brick set in a wall. Set in line with window sills, it helps to make the horizontal line of the sills visually more prominent. Set between the floors of a house, it helps to make the separate floors distinguishable from the exterior of the building.
The belt course often projects from the side of the building.Georgian architecture is notable for the use of belt courses.
Although the belt course has its origins as a structural component of a building, by the 18th century it was almost purely a decorative element and had no functional purpose. In brick or stone buildings taller than three stories, however, a shelf angle is usually used to transfer the load of the wall to a hidden, interior steel wall. Flashing is used to cover the space exposed by the shelf angle to help limit the intrusion of water. Where flashing is considered aesthetically unpleasing, a belt course is often used.
A course is a continuous horizontal layer of similarly-sized building material one unit high, usually in a wall. The term is almost always used in conjunction with unit masonry such as brick, cut stone, or concrete masonry units ("concrete block").
Styles
Stretcher – The typical course style, masonry units are laid with their head (smallest surface) viewed from a side cross-section and the long, narrow sides forming the bulk of the visible course.
Header – Heads form the visible course and the long, narrow dimension viewed from a side cross-section. This is often used to interlock a double wall (two adjacent wythes).
Rowlock – The long narrow sides are top and bottom; the heads visible. Single course. Above lintels. Between string courses. Occasionally the topmost course.
Soldier – Used mainly for decorative purposes as its upright nature does not lend itself to the compressive strength of a masonry unit and tends towards inward or outward lean (where mortar is used) or stress in successive courses. The long, thin sides are visible; the heads are top and bottom.
Sailor (rare) – Decorative, upright, weak and heat-permeable: The long thin sides are viewed from a side-cross section; the heads are top and bottom.
Shiner (rare) – Decorative, weak and heat-permeable. Long thin sides are top and bottom; the heads are viewed from a side cross-section.

What is String Theory?
Brian Greene explains the basic idea of String Theory in under 3 minutes. Thirty-five years ago string theory took physics by storm, promising the coveted unified theory of nature’s forces that Einstein valiantly sought but never found. In the intervening decades, string theory has brought a collection of mind-boggling possibilities into the lexicon of mainstream thinking—extra dimensions of space, holographic worlds, and multiple universes. Some researchers view these developments as symptoms of string theory having lost its way. Others argue that string theory, although very much still a work in progress, is revealing stunning new qualities of reality. #pythonstrings
#pythonprogramming
#pythontutorial
Summary of Python Strings :
1. In Python, a string is a series of characters. Also, Python strings are immutable.
2. Use quotes, either single quotes or double quotes to create string literals.
3. Use the backslash character \ to escape quotes in strings
4. Use raw strings r'...' to escape the backslash character.
5. Use f-strings to insert substitute variables in literal strings.
6. Place literal strings next to each other to concatenate them. And use the + operator to concatenate string variables.
7. Use the len() function to get the size of a string.
8. Use the str[n] to access the character at the position n of the string str.
9. Use slicing to extract a substring from a string.

About physics mini lessons:
In these intermediate-level physics lessons, I'll try to give you a self-contained introduction to some fascinating physics topics. If you're just getting started on your physics journey, you might not understand every single detail in every video---that's totally fine! What I'm really hoping is that you'll be inspired to go off and keep learning more on your own.
About me:
I’m Dr. Elliot Schneider. I love physics, and I want to help others learn (and learn to love) physics, too. Whether you’re a beginner just starting out with your physics studies, a more advanced student, or a lifelong learner, I hope you’ll find resources here that enable you to deepen your understanding of the laws of nature. For more cool physics stuff, visit me at https://www.physicswithelliot.com.
As a string moves through spacetime, it sweeps out a surface called its worldsheet. The starting point for string theory sets the action equal to the area of this worldsheet. Get the notes for free here: https://courses.physicswithelliot.com/notes-sign-up

This video is part 4 of the series I've been sharing with you about the principle of least action. The first video was about a particle in Newtonian mechanics, the second was about a particle in special relativity, and the third about a particle in general relativity. In this video, we'll learn about the principle of least action for string theory. It's called the Nambu-Goto action, and it's given by the area of the worldsheet that the string sweeps out as it moves through spacetime.

Join leading minds in theoretical physics for a whirlwind ride through the twists and turns of string theory—its past, its future, and what it tells us about the search for the universe’s final theory.
