John William Coltrane, also known as "Trane" (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967), was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes in jazz and was later at the forefront of free jazz. He led at least fifty recording sessions during his career, and appeared as a sideman on many albums by other musicians, including trumpeter Miles Davis and pianist Thelonious Monk.
As his career progressed, Coltrane and his music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension. Coltrane influenced innumerable musicians, and remains one of the most significant saxophonists in music history. He received many posthumous awards and recognitions, including canonization by the African Orthodox Church as Saint John William Coltrane and a special Pulitzer Prize in 2007. His second wife was pianist Alice Coltrane and their son Ravi Coltrane is also a saxophonist.
Blue Öyster Cult is the eponymous debut album by the American hard rock band Blue Öyster Cult, released on January 16, 1972 (see 1972 in music). The album featured songs such as "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll", "Stairway to the Stars", and "Then Came the Last Days of May", all of which the band still plays regularly during its concerts. Despite positive reviews, the album failed to chart for some time before finally cracking the Billboard 200 on May 20, 1972, peaking at No. 172. Blue Öyster Cult toured with artists such as The Byrds, Alice Cooper and the Mahavishnu Orchestra to support the album.
The album received a positive reaction from critics. Lester Bangs gave the album a generally positive review in Rolling Stone stating, "with the Blue Öyster Cult, New York has produced its first authentic boogie beast, and with any luck this one should be around for awhile [sic]" telling readers that "I don't think you should miss this album."Circus wrote that "it could well be the album of the Seventies", while Robert Christgau in The Village Voice called it "the tightest and most musical hard rock record since – dare I say it – Who's Next". The record was named an honorable mention on IGN's list of "Top 25 Metal Albums" and has been called "Heavy metal for people who hate heavy metal."
"Stairway to the Stars" is a popular song composed by Matty Malneck and Frank Signorelli, with lyrics by Mitchell Parish.
Stairway to the Stars was an early Australian television series which aired on Melbourne station HSV-7. The first episode aired 9 November 1956, with the series ending circa November 1958.
Hosts of the series included Eric Pearce for early episodes, and Geoff McComas for later episodes.
Originally broadcast on Fridays, it later moved to Wednesdays. Competition in the time-slot varied. At first, since HSV-7 was the only station in Melbourne, the series had no competition in the time-slot. By March 1957 the series competed against U.S. series Alfred Hitchcock Presents on GTV-9 and UK series The World is Ours on ABV-2. By November 1958 episodes competed against U.S. comedy series Susie on GTV-9, while ABV-2 featured Election Talk and UK series Fabian of the Yard.
The series was a talent show. For example, the episode broadcast 21 December 1956 featured a pop vocalist, a soprano, a dancer, a tenor, and a saxophonist, as well as Sonia Korn as the guest.

It was recorded at Atlantic Studios (Recorded on October 24 & 26, 1960) during the sessions for My Favorite Things. ***Coltrane’s wife Naima named the song "Equinox". The equinox occurs twice a year when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the sun. John Coltrane was born on September 23, 1926, the day of the official autumn equinox of that year. The release of "Equinox" was delayed until 1964 when Atlantic issued the album Coltrane’s Sound. Before he recorded it, Coltrane performed "Equinox" several times in live venues, including a session with Miles D...

Great Rock Albums
This is the second installment in the "First Ten Minutes" series. Blue Oyster Cult is a band that rose to prominence in the 1970s and established themselves as a heavy rock band with songs about extra terrestrials, apparitions, and rock and roll. The ride to success was not smooth and the band faltered at least twice as they tried to capitalize on the success of a previous album. Nevertheless, they remain a classic band and a favourite of many. Note: After I mentioned the YouTuber who referred to "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" as "Veteran of the Psych Ward", I too began to refer to the song by the same mistaken title. How embarrassing! My sincere apologies!

There was a boy, a very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far, over land and
A little shy and sad of eye, but very wise was he
And then one day, a magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things, fools and kings
This he said to me:
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
