In Wales and England, this saint is known by his birth and baptismal name Kentigern (Welsh:Cyndeyrn). This name probably comes from the British *Cuno-tigernos, which is composed of the elements *cun, a hound, and *tigerno, a lord, prince, or king. The evidence is based on the Old Welsh record Conthigirn(i). Other etymologies have been suggested, including British *Kintu-tigernos 'chief prince' based on the English form Kentigern, but the Old Welsh form above and Old EnglishCundiʒeorn do not appear to support this.
Particularly in Scotland, he is known by the pet name Mungo, possibly derived from the Cumbric equivalent of the Welsh:fy nghu 'my dear (one)'.
An ancient church in Bromfield is named after him, as are Crosthwaite Parish Church and some other churches in the northern part of Cumberland.
The St. Mungo was a fireboat operated by Glasgow Fire Services, in Glasgow, Scotland, from 1959 to 1975.
When launched, she was described as the most modern fireboat in the United Kingdom.
History
The St Mungo replaced an earlier steam powered fireboat.
Glasgow was once one of the busiest ports in the United Kingdom, and the St Mungo and earlier vessels provided an important service. However, by 1975 when the Strathclyde Fire Brigade was formed through the amalgamation of Glasgow Fire Services with neighbouring fire services, Glasgow's use of the River Clyde had changed, and the vessels declared surplus, and retired. She was sold in 1978 to serve as an "offshore tender".
Propulsion
She was propelled by twin diesel engines, at up to 9 knots.
Each diesel was rated at 160 brake horsepower (120kW)
Pumps
The St Mungo's two turbine water pumps could each provide 3,000 gallons per minute.
The turbine pumps provided water to up to six water cannons. Each turbine pump was powered by a diesel rated at 400 brake horsepower (300kW).
The show featured the adventures of a girl called Mary, her dog Mungo, and her pet mouse Midge, who lived in a tower block in a busy town. BBC newsreader Richard Baker narrated the episodes, with John Ryan's daughter Isabel playing Mary. The theme tune and other music for the series was provided by Johnny Pearson.
This show was one of the first children's shows in the UK to reflect urban living. The programme showed Mary having adventures in a busy town, as opposed to in a wood, forest or other rural setting. The two featured animals were likely to be familiar to town dwellers, as opposed to the array of talking wildlife usually seen in children's television.
In each episode, the three of them would descend in the lift from their flat in the tower block. After their adventures they would return home, Midge would press the button for the lift back to the correct floor, by standing on Mungo's nose.

St Mungo’s strike: Charity sector workers fight back!
After an unprecedented four weeks of strike action, Unite members at homeless charity St Mungo's have launched an indefinite strike today!
Socialist Appeal members went along to a picket line in Hackney to interview the striking workers about their working conditions, their struggle, and the way forward in the fight against the bosses' system.
The crisis in society, reflected across the charity sector, has pushed workers to the brink. Only a bold socialist solution will suffice.
