St. Columba's School, Delhi, India, was established in 1941, one of twelve thousand English Medium schools of its kind conducted by the Indian Province of the Congregation of Christian Brothers which was founded by Edmund Ignatius Rice, a Roman Catholic missionary and educationalist. It has followed the CBSE system of education. The campus of St. Columba's School is located in the heart of Delhi and extends over a couple of acres. The school admits only boys. Famous celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Kunal Nayyar and Keith Sequiera and many others have passed out from St.Columbas. Students are referred to as Columbans.
About
History
Officially opened on 31 April 1941, St. Columba's School began with 32 boys in New Delhi next to the Sacred Heart Cathedral, admitting through class 6. It was one of the first schools in India to introduce computer education. The junior school opened in 1942, at the site of what previously had been a rose garden.
St. Columba's is a non-denominational school, open to all religions but has strong Christian roots.
Today the school provides both primary and secondary education between its Junior and Senior Schools for around 730 pupils between the ages of five and eighteen years. St Columba's generally draws its pupils from its own county of Renfrewshire or the neighbouring county of Ayrshire.
The school was named The Sunday Times' "School of the Year" in 2004/05 after attaining the best examination results of any school in Scotland. The present Rector is David Girdwood.
History
St Columba's was founded in 1897 at Duchal Road where it is still located. The preparatory school at St Columba's was formerly located at Shieldhall on Bridge of Weir Road. Boarders were once accepted and accommodated in Shallott, the current junior school building. The junior school was then located at Shieldhall on the Bridge of Weir Road. During the Second World War, Shieldhall was utilised as dormatories for evacuees from other schools, particularly those also owned by the Girls' Schools Company. The Knockbuckle Road site, which now houses the Junior School, was once occupied by boarders. When boarding ceased in 1970 it was developed and has been the site of the Junior School ever since.
Saint Columba (Irish:Colm Cille, 'church dove'; 7 December 521 – 9 June 597) was an Irishabbot and missionary credited with spreading Christianity in what is today Scotland at the start of the Hiberno-Scottish mission. He founded the important abbey on Iona, which became a dominant religious and political institution in the region for centuries. He is the Patron Saint of Derry. He was highly regarded by both the Gaels of Dál Riata and the Picts, and is remembered today as a Christian saint and one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland.
Columba reportedly studied under some of Ireland's most prominent church figures and founded several monasteries in the country. Around 563 he and his twelve companions crossed to Dunaverty near Southend, Argyll in Kintyre before settling in Iona in Scotland, then part of the Irish kingdom of Dál Riata, where they founded a new abbey as a base for spreading Christianity among the northern Pictish kingdoms who were pagan. He remained active in Irish politics, though he spent most of the remainder of his life in Scotland. Three surviving early medieval Latin hymns may be attributed to him.
Columba is a small, faint constellation created in the late sixteenth century. Its name is Latin for dove. It is located just south of Canis Major and Lepus.
History
Columba was created by Dutch astronomer Petrus Plancius in 1592 in order to differentiate the 'unformed stars' of the large constellation Canis Major. Plancius first depicted Columba on the small celestial planispheres of his large wall map of 1592. It is also shown on his smaller world map of 1594 and on early Dutch celestial globes.
Plancius originally named the constellation Columba Noachi ("Noah's Dove"), referring to the dove that gave Noah the information that the Great Flood was receding. This name is found on early 17th-century celestial globes and star atlases (such as Bayer'sUranometria of 1603). Columba may also represent the dove released by Jason and the Argonauts at the Black Sea's mouth; it helped them navigate the dangerous Symplegades.
Although the Plancius is credited with the creation of Columba, the existence of a "dove" constellation was attested to by Clement of Alexandria (c. 150-215), although it is not known whether the same group of stars was contemplated. In addition, given the mythological linkage of Columba with Jason and the Argonauts, the celestial location of Columba over Puppis, part of the larger constellation once known as Argo Navis (the ship of the Argonauts), supports an ancient derivation of this constellation, despite its notable omission by Ptolemy.

Dekhte hi dekhte school ka aakhri din aagya,
Rotay Rotay Aaye thay, Rotay Rotay he jaa rhe hain,
Humesha yaad rakhenge inn teen building Mai saath bitaye woh haseen pal,
Woh saath Mai Hasna,
Woh saath Mai Rona
Humesha yaad aaenge ye pal
Humesha sataenge ye pal,
Har baar yaad kar aakhon Mai ek nami si aaegi,
Aur yeh baat bhi humesha sataegi.
