Literally ordered directly from the drawing board in 1942, under the auspices of the Directorate of Miscellaneous Weapons Development, this weapon was rushed into service in May 1943 on board HMS Ambuscade. The first production unit was installed on HMS Hadleigh Castle, it went on to be installed on 70 frigates and corvettes during the Second World War. The first successful use was by HMS Loch Killin on 31 July 1944, when she sank U333; the system was credited with sinking 17 submarines in 50 attacks. By 1959, 195 Squid installations had been produced.
This weapon was a three-barrel 12-inch (305mm) mortar with the mortars mounted in series but off-bore from each other in order to scatter the projectiles. The barrels were mounted in a frame that could be rotated through 90degrees for loading. The projectiles weighed 390 pounds (177kg) with a 207-pound (94kg)minol charge. On some vessels, the Squid installations were at the stern – the bombs were fired over the length of the ship and dropping into the sea slightly ahead of it. Sink rate was 43.5ft/s (13.3m/s) and a clockwork time fuse was used to determine the detonation depth; all three projectiles had to be set to the same depth; this could be continuously updated right up to the moment of launch to take into account the movements of the target. The maximum depth was 900 feet (270m).
A mortar is a device that fires projectiles at low velocities and short ranges. The mortar has traditionally been used as a weapon to propel explosive mortar bombs in high-arcing ballistic trajectories. The weapon is typically muzzle-loading with a short, often smooth-bore barrel, generally less than 15 times its caliber. Mortar bombs are often referred to, incorrectly, as "mortars".
Mortars have been used for hundreds of years, originally in siege warfare. Many historians consider the first mortars to have been used at the 1453 siege of Constantinople by Fatih Sultan Mehmed. A European account of the 1456 siege of Belgrade by Giovanni da Tagliacozzo said that the Ottoman Turks used seven mortars that fired "stone shots one Italian mile high". The time of flight of these was apparently long enough that casualties could be avoided by posting observers to give warning of their trajectories.
Mortar is a village located in Garhpura block of Begusarai district in Bihar. It comes under Malipur panchayat and under post office Malilpur. The nearest Police station is located at Garhpura. PIN-848204
The village contains a Primary and a High school which are run by Bihar government. A model school is under construction. The students also go to nearby villages in some central or private schools.
Demographics
The total population of the village is 1509 (763 male and 746 female).
Mortar durge puja samiti
The most awaited and enthusiastic festival among the people of Mortar village and neighboring areas is Durga puja. A durge puja samiti looks after the arrangements made in the village in this festival. A mela is organised every year in the school ground. An idol of Goddess durga is made in the village and people gather together to celebrate this festival. Sweets are bought, new clothes are worn, people offer their praying and different types of games, events and functions are organised. One such event is Kushti that attracts lot of people from different areas.
Squid are cephalopods of the orderTeuthida, which comprises around 304 species. Like all other cephalopods, squid have a distinct head, bilateral symmetry, a mantle, and arms. Squid, like cuttlefish, have eight arms arranged in pairs and two, usually longer, tentacles. Squid are strong swimmers and certain species can "fly" for short distances out of the water.
Taxonomy
Squid are members of the class Cephalopoda, subclass Coleoidea, order Teuthida, which has two major suborders, Myopsina and Oegopsina (including giant squid such as Architeuthis dux). Teuthida is the largest cephalopod order with around 300 species classified into 29 families.
The order Teuthida is a member of the superorder Decapodiformes (from the Greek for "ten legs"). Two other orders of decapodiform cephalopods are also called squid, although they are taxonomically distinct from Teuthida and differ recognizably in their gross anatomical features. They are the bobtail squid of order Sepiolida and the ram's horn squid of the monotypic order Spirulida. The vampire squid, however, is more closely related to the octopuses than to any squid.

How to Fire a Mortar?
This is a 60 mm Cannon it can be operated in Handheld Mode or Conventional Mode using these Bipods legs.
When Dropped the round activates the detonators through the firing pin, triggering the propellant charge
The greater the number of charges, the farther the round will travel.
In Hand held Mode The mortar is aligned alongside the muzzle for azimuth, and observe the range scale on the handle for elevation.
In simple terms raising the Barrel at Higher angle the round will travel less further while Decreasing the angle results with the round travelling much further.
This is how he aim the crosshair, he uses both hands and adjusts the tripod elevation using the knob as shown in the animations all in the video ahead so stay tuned and don’t miss a beat.

SCORPION: The Fastest Mobile Mortar System in the World
Check out this live-fire demonstration of our SCORPION Mobile Mortar System. It is a fully digital, automated mortar system that features a Shoot & Scoot capability able to fire 8 rounds in 2 minutes. The SCORPION shown here is set atop a Toyota Landcruiser, but SCORPION can be mounted on any 1.5 ton truck. It also features a “non-seating” baseplate — designed to NOT dig into the ground — enabling two key advantages: 1) recoil forces are taken off the vehicle, and 2) a 24-second departure; therefore NOT allowing enemy forces to back azimuth your location.
Other Features:
• Fires both 81mm and 120mm (barrels are interchangeable)

• From parking vehicle to rounds down range in 45 seconds
• Drive away (after last shot) in 24 seconds
• Eliminates the recoil effect caused by shooting on a vehicle.
• Fire Control System (FCS) knows its location as well as its ssigned targets, including a ballistic calculation system for multiple munition types.
• FCS can be operated from inside the cab and/or from outside the vehicle via tablet.
•
Lightweight and can be deployed by helicopter or other aircraft.

Most people assume that mixing up cement is a simple, one recipe, kind of job. But in reality there are multiple mixes you can do, with their own ratio of materials. Here XO goes into depth about the plaster, mortar and concrete mixes, about what ratio to use and what each is used for.

This is how he aim the crosshair, he uses both hands and adjusts the tripod elevation using the knob as shown in the animations all in the video ahead so stay tuned and don’t miss a beat.

civil war demonstration of a mortar at Gettysburg
update: although I am not sure if this was historical, this is real. Mortar Crews during the civil war did have exploding shells but probably not this good. Still...real, unedited video.
