Spring Garden, also known as the Lewis Homestead, is a historic home located near Laurel, Sussex County, Delaware. It is an "L"-shaped, brick and frame dwelling built in three sections over a 100-year period. The large brick main core was built about 1782, and is a 2 1/2-story, double-pile, center-hall plan structure with a three-bay facade in the Federal style. The interior has Georgian style details. It has a summer kitchen addition built about 1860, and it is a 1 1/2-story, single-pile structure added to the rear of the main core. About 1880, a large, two-story, frame addition was built onto the west gable end of the original brick section. It is in the Victorian Gothic style.
The site of the town of Laurel was a Nanticoke Indian settlement known as Broad Creek Town during most of the eighteenth century. Its Nanticoke name is unknown.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.4km2), of which 1.7 square miles (4.4km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26km2) (4.07%) is water.
Spring Garden is a station on SEPTA's Broad–Ridge Spur that is now abandoned and is located at the three way intersections of Spring Garden Street, 12th Streets & Ridge Avenue.
The station was opened on December 21, 1932 between Fairmount and Vine Street Station and now called (Chinatown) stations, and eventually abandoned in 1991 after several attempts to keep it open. When it first opened in 1932, the station was a very busy subway station filled with passengers each day, however, by the 1980's, the station became very run down. Ridership drastically dropped at the time and the neighboring area around Spring Garden Station became inundated with drug trafficing and other crime. To avoid any potential threats of criminal activity, SEPTA closed down the station and sealed off the entrances with galvanized metal, redirecting passengers to the nearby Spring Garden station at Broad Street, only two blocks west.
Today, the former Spring Garden Street station can only be seen from Broad–Ridge Spur trains passing by between Fairmount and Chinatown stations. The station is dimly lit by only four fluorescent bulbs, and is no longer accessible except in an emergency. Because the station is abandoned it is no longer policed, but however this does not stop the SEPTA's Transit Police Department from responding to crime at the station if seen by SEPTA Employees while on the train. As the train passes by every wall seen is completely covered in several coats of graffiti.
The area was first settled in the early 1840s when William English established a coontie starch mill in the area in the 1840s. By the 1850s, William Wagner and a business partner reestablished a coontie mill on a Miami River tributary which would be named after Wagner. A freshwater spring was found on the tributary in the area, which caused Henry Flagler to build the private Miami Water Company (where a Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Treatment plant is currently located) there in 1899.
By 1918, German-born Miami industrialist John Seybold dredged the Wagner Creek and constructed a turning basin in the creek, prompting area officials to rename the creek "Seybold Canal" in his honor; Seybold purchased and platted the peninsular plot of land immediately south of North 11th Street between the River and Creek for private, residential development, advertising it as one of Miami's premier housing communities into the Florida land boom of the 1920s.
Delaware is in the northeastern portion of the Delmarva Peninsula and is the second smallest, the sixth least populous, but the sixth most densely populated of the 50 United States. Delaware is divided into three counties, the lowest number of counties of any state. From north to south, the three counties are New Castle, Kent, and Sussex. While the southern two counties have historically been predominantly agricultural, New Castle County has been more industrialized.
Before its coastline was explored by Europeans in the 16th century, Delaware was inhabited by several groups of Native Americans, including the Lenape in the north and Nanticoke in the south. It was initially colonized by Dutch traders at Zwaanendael, near the present town of Lewes, in 1631. Delaware was one of the 13 colonies participating in the American Revolution and on December7, 1787, became the first state to ratify the Constitution of the United States, thereby becoming known as The First State.
Delaware wine refers to wine made from grapes grown in the U.S. state of Delaware. Historically, the first Swedish settlers planted grapes and made wine in Delaware as early as 1638.
Delaware has five wineries that each have limited production, the fewest of any state in the United States. The largest winery is Nassau Valley Vineyards, which makes fruit wines in addition to grape wines. Two others are Pizzadili, a small, family business which opened in 2007 and Harvest Ridge Winery, which opened in 2013.

My name is Claus Dalby, and I live in Risskov on the outskirts of Aarhus in Denmark. To date, I have written about 30 books on flowers and gardens in Danish, and my garden has been featured on many TV shows. In March 2022 my first book in English will be available. I consider my home (built in1908), and its garden with its neighboring wood, as my sanctuary. When I started gardening in 1996, there was just a large lawn covering approximately 1 acre (4,000 square meters), but today the grass is long gone - replaced by 15 hedged rooms with varying colors and moods. Additionally, one of my great passions is growing in pots, arranged to create spectacular container gardens, which I will share quite a bit about on this channel. Decor and creating moods have always interested me - both outside and inside - and I love to use the flowers from my garden for bouquets and to inspire other crafts that create a sense of hygge.

The front garden display consists of the Colorblends "Pillow Talk" tulips and "Oh Pairs" Daffodil blend. Along the boxwood path and lamp post I planted the "Aladdin’s Carpet" blend. Definitely plan on more of that, and planting more directly in the lawn next year for a free and wild look, love it!
In the back garden I have tons of Summer allium still hiding. The daffodils along the fence are the "The Top 40" blend. And over by the bird bath I have a wonderful mix of snowdrops (already faded, those are one of the first signs of Spring) and then the Fritillaria Meleagris is AKA "Snake's Head", with the purple and white checkered blooms. I always admire seeing them English gardens and it was a first for me. I love them!
My dear friend Brandon Lark Roberts has just posted a tour today of his beautiful Colorblends in his garden. He is based in Tennessee and has a fantastic and unique style. It's so fun to see different gardeners, in different zones and their Spring gardens coming alive. So inspiring and makes for so many good ideas to try!

Tornado wrapped in rain observed just to the west of Laurel along route 13 and route 9. Powerful winds in excess of 80mph created a damage path of at least 10 miles where several structures were destroyed. Power lines across major roadways backed up traffic for miles on route 13. Several emergency crews on scene pulling residents out of crumbled homes.

Spring gardening can be overwhelming. The garden planning that goes into it is a LOT, so here are 50 plants I'm planning to grow in MY garden. Hope this gives you some ideas and inspiration as you shop for seeds and start seeds this year!

Hallo hallo, I'm back and it's such a pleasure.
I have had a busy spring and I'm sorry that I haven't had time to post here since last year. But I have many plans for the coming season and I'm looking forward to talk about them here on my YouTube-channel.
In early spring my english book 'Containers in the garden' were published and it were sold out very fast. But I'm pleased to tell that a new print will be ready by mid May.
If you would like to preorder, you can for example do it at Amazon, see https://www.amazon.com/Containers-Garden-Claus-Dalby/dp/0760374651/ref=sr_1_1?qid=1650805896&refinements=p_27%3AClaus+Dalby&s=books&sr=1-1

Hi Gardeners! Show of hands who is so excited for the Spring garden season!? Me me me!
This video, oh, I love it. I went out every day over the past 2 weeks and took little clips and snippets of what things were looking and sounding like. The birds right now are wide away and loving life. As the video progresses, it shows the garden coming alive, and that just makes me so happy. I hope you enjoy it!
Huge thanks to Colorblends for this collaboration. Every beautiful bulb in the garden is from them. I'm a long time customer, and I'm never disappointed in the quality and display every year. Always a thrill to me! Please be sure to get your orders in early for Fall bulb planting season.
http://www.colorblends.com

Spring is an exciting time in the garden. Join Rosanne on a tour of her colorful spring garden. Filmed over ten days, see tulips, woodland garden perennials, and flowering trees at their peak. Thank you for watching Peaceful Sights and Sounds From the Flower Farm #shorts
A look around the garden in late April. All of the fruit trees are covered in blossom so I wanted to make a garden tour. The late tulips and daffodils are flowering now, and we are growing seedlings on for our vegetable plot and allotment. Lots to look forward to in the coming months.
