Pat Metheny - And I Love Her (The Beatles)
"The Beatles were huge for me. Without them, I don't know if I even would have become a musician or a guitar player. When their hits started coming out, I was 8 and 9 years old and it had a tremendous impact on me. I saw the movie "A Hard Day's Night" multiple times when it came out and I always loved that song. It is kind of impossible to imagine doing a record like this without including at least one Beatles song." - Pat Metheny

After nearly 40 recordings under his own name, this is the first Pat Metheny album where there is not a single Metheny composition represented. This is a personal view of ten classic songs, some very well known, some less so, filtered through the harmonic and melodic ideology of a modern master with a most individual approach.

PAT METHENY was born in Kansas City on August 12, 1954 into a musical family. Starting on trumpet at the age of 8, Metheny switched to guitar at age 12. By the age of 15, he was working regularly with the best jazz musicians in Kansas City, receiving valuable on-the-bandstand experience at an unusually young age. Metheny first burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974. Over the course of his three-year stint with vibraphone great Gary Burton, the young Missouri native already displayed his soon-to-become trademarked playing style, which blended the loose and flexible articulation customarily reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility - a way of playing and improvising that was modern in conception but grounded deeply in the jazz tradition of melody, swing, and the blues. With the release of his first album, Bright Size Life (1975), he reinvented the traditional "jazz guitar" sound for a new generation of players. Throughout his career, Pat Metheny has continued to re-define the genre by utilizing new technology and constantly working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument. METHENY'S versatility is almost nearly without peer on any instrument. Over the years, he has performed with artists as diverse as Steve Reich to Ornette Coleman to Herbie Hancock to Jim Hall to Milton Nascimento to David Bowie. Metheny's body of work includes compositions for solo guitar, small ensembles, electric and acoustic instruments, large orchestras, and ballet pieces, with settings ranging from modern jazz to rock to classical.
On September 10th, 2021 Modern Recordings will release PAT METHENY SIDE-EYE - NYC, an exciting, vibrant and energized new platform for Metheny, showcased in a recording that features 30 minutes of intricate new music set alongside a few unexpected and creative re-workings of Metheny classics re-imagined.
So, what is Side-Eye?
Pat explains, “I wanted to create an ongoing platform to host a rotating cast of the newer generations of musicians who have particularly caught my interest along the way. From my earliest days in Kansas City onward, I was the beneficiary of so many older musicians hiring me, which gave me a chance to develop through the prism of their experiences and the particular demands of what their music implied.”

A sky deity falling from the sky sounds bad, right? Not if it’s the Kasogonagá! From the mythology of the Qom peoples of South America, this god of lightning, thunder, and rain appears as a small, hairy anteater-like creature and needs a bit of human intervention to return to the skies. Not your typical scary Monstrum episode, this one even features guest illustrator Ellen Surrey.
With a long history of helping the indigenous people of South America, this cute, benevolent ‘monster’ is what we all need to end 2020 with—a little hope and a smile. #kasogonaga #folklore #cute #...

@zoharstargateancientdiscoverie The Sky Gods & Human Slaves of Ancient Sumer… It All Began in the Biblical Land of Shinar Documentary - Thousands of years ago, did a genetically advanced race of beings come to planet Earth? Did they interbreed with Homosapiens of that time and create a special race of humans? When these watchers departed, did this hybrid species remained and rules over the Earth to this day. Are we the decedents of intelligent design by advanced beings from the stars? The evidence seems to be growing.

Nut : The Goddess of the Sky, Mother of the Gods | Egyptian Mythology
Nut. the goddess of the sky, Mother of the Gods in Egyptian Gods Mythology. One of the oldest goddesses in Egyptian mythology is Nut, the goddess of the sky (nut means 'sky' in ancient Egyptian). It is believed that the sky is, in fact, a naked woman shrouded in stars curving above the earth in a plank position or perhaps a down-dog position. Some of her titles include Mistress of All, She Who Holds a Thousand Souls, and She Who Protects.

Hathor Temple Discovery - the Ancient Egyptian Goddess - Sovereign Star/Sky Deity
Hathor is one of the most famous goddesses of Ancient Egypt. She was known as “the Great One of Many Names” and her titles and attributes are so numerous that she was important in every area of the life and death of the ancient Egyptians. It is thought that her worship was widespread even in the Predynastic period because she appears on the Narmer palette. However, some scholars suggest that the cow-headed goddess depicted on the palette is in fact Bat (an ancient cow goddess who was largely absorbed by Hathor) or even Narmer himself.

Sky deity under attack or is something else happening here?
The lines seem to be heading for the centre of the deity... they could be tethers to hold it or supply it with whatever it needs to show itself or are they attacking it. It was a beautiful thing.

#kasogonaga #folklore #cute #MonstrumPBS
Written and Hosted by: Dr. Emily Zarka
Director: David Schulte
Executive Producer: Amanda Fox
Producer: Stephanie Noone

Editor: Derek Borsheim
Produced by Spotzen for PBS Digital Studios.
The world is full of monsters, myths, and legends and Monstrum isn’t afraid to take a closer look. The show, hosted by Emily Zarka, Ph.D., takes us on a journey to discover a new monster in each new episode. Monstrum looks at humans' unique drive to create and shape monster mythology through oral storytelling, literature, and film and digs deep into the history of those mythologies.
