Sensitivity and specificity - explained in 3 minutes
Dr Greg Martin talks about the sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic tools used in global health programs. This forms part of the epidemiology series.
Global health (and public health) is truly multidisciplinary and leans on epidemiology, health economics, health policy, statistics, ethics, demography.... the list goes on and on. This YouTube channel is here to provide you with some teaching and information on these topics. I've also posted some videos on how to find work in the global health space and how to raise money or get a grant for your projects.
Please feel free to leave comments and questions - I'll respond to all of them (we'll, I'll try to at least). Feel free to make suggestions as to future content for the channel.

Tests are not always perfect. Sensitivity and specificity are measures that can be used to determine how good a test is at correctly identifying the presence or absence of disease. In this video we’ll take a look at what they are, how they are calculated and two related measurements – positive and negative predictive values.

💡 Rock the coolest Bright Side MERCH (open globally!) at: http://bit.ly/2OJubyA
A lot of the times your brain “feels” way younger or older than you are. That's called mental age. Do you wanna know yours? Lucky for you, Bright Side put together a simple test that will help you figure out if you're a carefree child, an old and wise sage or just exactly as mentally “old” as you are. Just answer our questions, write down your points for every answer, add them all up and get your results! But enough talking, let's begin!
If you got 7-12 points, mentally you're just under 20 years old. It doesn't matter what your passport says – you’re a carefree teenager at heart! If you're way older than 20, congratulations – you've managed to carry this constant feeling of enthusiasm and love for life through all these years. Keep shining!
If your result is 13–20 points, you are 20–29 years old. You are active, creative, and full of life, but you can already call yourself an adult. Childhood and teenage years are over, but you took the best from them and left all the unnecessary stuff behind. It doesn't mean that you're not having fun though – your life is just as exciting as it was.
If all of your points added up to 21–28 points, your mental age is 30–39 years. You’re still active and curious about new things and ideas, but you are already responsible and thoughtful. If you think about it, that's the perfect balance between the children's joy for life and adults' independence. The golden mean at its best!
If your total number of points is 29–35, you are 40–49 years old. You're mature and experienced, and you know exactly how to live your life. You have no time for nonsense – you're determined and hardworking. You know what you want and how to get it. Continue to be a true inspiration for everyone around!
36–40 points mean that your mental age is over 50 years. And that's not a bad thing at all! On the contrary, you are wise and calm. You get what life is all about, and you highly appreciate comfort. You're the person everyone goes for advice, plus you can always be trusted. These are some rare qualities today, so your friends must protect you at all costs.
So what’s your mental age and how close is it to your real age?

How good is your eyesight? Here’s a simple eyesight test that will show how sharp your eyes are.
We all know that “eyes are the windows to the soul.” Do your windows need cleaning, or are they crystal clear and give a sharp picture of the world? Take this test to find it out!
There will be 4 stages, and it will get harder and harder with every stage. The first one might seem like a piece of cake (and if you’re actually seeing a piece of cake we’ve got problems), but the further we go, the more concentration it will require. In fact, only 8 % of people can pass stage 4 because it is so hard.
You will have the same task for every question in all the stages. The task is to pick 1 out of 10 colors which is different from the rest. To pass each of the stages, you have to find that odd one out in each task. If you fail once, you fail the entire stage.
#vision #eyetest
TIMESTAMPS
Stage 1 Easy 1:11
Stage 2 Normal 2:23
Stage 3 Hard 3:53
Stage 4 Very Hard 5:29
Results 7:06
SUMMARY
Congratulations to all superhumans out there who made it. Your eyesight is fantastic! 92% of people failed at this task, and you managed to rock it!
There is a chance you are a tetrachromat. This smart word is used to define people who have more receptors in their eyes than others and can see more shades of different colors.
Did you manage to make it through all 4 stages? If you failed, at what stage did it happen? Let’s discuss it in the comments section!

How to make the right choice? Here are 10 extremely difficult choices you will ever have to make! Throughout our lives, we are constantly bombarded with major choices. Our decisions determine your future and define you and shape your personality. In this video, Bright Side offers you to make 10 extremely difficult choices. At the end of the video, we’ll tell what kind of person you are!
TEST RULES
There are only two possible answers to each question. You need to choose between option A and option B. As you’re taking the test, keep track of how many times you chose A or B because you’ll need these totals at the end of the video to find out your results. You’ll only have 5 seconds to think about each question before we give the explanation. Don’t think too long, and go with your gut; you’ll get the most accurate results that way!
WOULD YOU RATHER...
...be the smartest person or the most charming? 1:17
...you rather always have to tell the truth or lie? 1:47
...never have Internet or never take an airplane? 2:21
...find true love or win a million dollars? 3:04
...never be able to speak or have to say everything on your mind? 3:28
...have a photographic memory or be able to forget anything you want? 4:09
...never have sex again or never eat your favorite food? 4:50
...be the only person to live a happy life or be the only person to live an unhappy life? 5:19
...be the first person to discover an inhabitable planet or inventor of a drug that cures a deadly disease? 5:58
...be poor but able to help people or get incredibly rich by hurting other people? 6:38
SUMMARY
If you chose A 1 to 3 times, you’re a pretty selfish person. Very few people would like to work with you on a team. It’s not that bad though; it just means that you prefer fighting for yourself to get exactly what you want.
If you chose option A 4 to 6 times, it means that you’re moderately selfish. You’re like the Goldilocks of this list: not too much, not too little, just right. Pretty much most people would fall into this category. You can be selfish when you need to be.
If you chose option A 7 to 10 times, you’re the type of person who is always ready to sacrifice your own interests for someone else.
What results did you get? Do you agree with them? Tell us in the comments section below!
