Life Inside The International Space Station
Ever wondered what it’s like to work in space? The brave men and women of the International Space Station are truly a special breed, but at the end of the day they’re just regular people, going about their jobs.
So join us today as we shadow our higher ups and learn all about a day in the life of an ISS astronaut.
When hurtling around planet earth at 17,100 mph, standard human notions of day and night start to look pretty silly. In a normal 24 hour stretch, a typical ISS astronaut will see the sun rise, and set, 16 times in total. Human bodies did not evolve that way. So a regular 24-hour earth day is maintained up there, if nothing else to prevent the crew descending into a grim spiral of permanent crippling jet lag.

🌎 LIVE: NASA Live Stream of Earth from Space (ISS)
This is an ISS live earth view happening right now from space at the International Space Station. The International Space Station is 260 miles (420 km) above the planet in a low earth orbit. It takes 90 minutes for the ISS to complete one orbit around the earth. During that time it passes into the dark side of the earth for 1/2 the time. During the dark period, you'll be able to view lightning storms and the light from towns and cities. Regularly, the ISS will stop transmitting due to a connection loss but will come back up automatically once it establishes the connection again. When the connection is lost, an offline message will appear and the main screen will switch to aerial imagery showing the ISS's current location over the earth.

What The Next Space Station May Look Like
The International Space Station will likely be retired within the decade. NASA hopes to save money by having commercial companies build the next space outpost. Some companies including Sierra Space and Axiom Space are already working on a commercial space station. But the question is, will these stations be ready in time?

You've probably heard about SpaceX's intentions to utilize its enormous new Starship spacecraft to send several Starlink satellites or huge telescopes into orbit, land people on the Moon and Mars, transfer equipment or people between points on Earth at a fast rate of speed, or even all of these things. But, wait! SpaceX previews another Starship application. And in today’s episode, we’re going to find out how they'll make this happen?
Hello everyone! Welcome back to Elon Musk Evolution, where we bring you the most recent news about Elon Musk and his multi billion-dollar companies, space news and the latest science and technology.

NASA is on board to provide expertise as the business explores another use for the Starship architecture developed by SpaceX. Though the technology is still in its infancy, NASA is keenly interested in this project because it could turn Starship into a commercial space station, as there are currently no plans for a government-owned research facility in low-Earth orbit after the International Space Station is shut down in 2030.
A new series of agreements with seven private companies, including SpaceX, were revealed by the space agency last month. The Collaborations for Commercial Space Capabilities (CCSC) program was created to encourage the private sector's development of cutting-edge goods and services that might be made accessible to clients in five to seven years, including NASA.
This is distinct from the sponsored contracts NASA entered into in 2021 with three business teams led by Nanoracks, Blue Origin, and Northrop Grumman, who are all developing different ideas for a commercial space station. Axiom Space, a different business, has a contract with NASA to create a commercial module that will be attached to the International Space Station with the intention of using it as the focal point of a privately owned complex in low-Earth orbit in the future.
NASA rejected SpaceX's proposal for a sponsored space station development agreement in 2021 due to concerns over, among other things, SpaceX's intentions to scale up its life support system to permit long-duration missions and its single docking port. The new CCSC initiative, which incorporates the Starship space station concept, is not being funded by the space agency, but the government will help the industry with technical know-how, including expert assessments, lessons learned, technologies, and data.
Along with the SpaceX agreement, NASA also announced it will back Blue Origin's effort to create a crew spaceship for orbital trips that would launch on the firm's New Glenn rocket. The organization also supports Northrop Grumman's efforts to create a research platform in low-Earth orbit that will be manned and work in tandem with the company's proposed space station.
The other businesses chosen by NASA for unfunded agreements included: Sierra Space's proposal for a crewed variant of its Dream Chaser spacecraft; Vast's idea for a privately owned space station; ThinkOrbital's plan to develop welding, cutting, inspection, and additive manufacturing technology for construction work in space; and Special Aerospace Services for collaboration on an autonomous maneuvering unit to help, or perhaps even replace, spacewalkers working outside a space station.

The International Space Station is the largest man made object in space. It was built in pieces and then launched into space and assembled in orbit. In this video we'll go over some background about the station and then walk through each module in the order that it was assembled.

Want a different view? The overview camera livestream from the ISS can be found here: https://youtu.be/dAoERnmY4VU
There are 16 sunrises and sunsets every day. Check them out!
The dashboard on the bottom contains the following information:
1. BOTTOM, FAR LEFT BOX --------------------
Global flight path of the ISS with real-time lightning strikes. The flight path of the ISS shows where the ISS is right now, its path 90 minutes ago (yellow line), and 90 minutes ahead (white line). Due to the Station's orbit, it appears to travel from west to east over our planet, and due to Earth's own rotation, the Space Station moves 2200 km to the west on each orbit. If you time it right, you can see the International Space Station on a clear night with your own eyes, just by looking up. Any lightning that strikes the ground will appear on this map in real-time as red, orange, or yellow dots. Red dots are the newest lightning strikes and they fade to yellow as time passes.
2. BOTTOM, LEFT OF CENTER BOX ------------------
A zoomed-in map showing the current location of the ISS and current cloud conditions.
3. BOTTOM, CENTER BOX -----------------
The space station's current position over the earth (state/province and country) or the name of the body of water, the current time and date, the elevation and speed of the station, and the condition of the video transmission: Live Now (red box) or Offline (blue box). if the live transmission is offline, archived video will show, either from 46 minutes ago, if available, or of other video taken from the space station. During signal loss, a box will appear in the top right of the screen indicating the type of archived video shown.
4. BOTTOM, RIGHT BOX -------------------
If the live stream is running and it is daytime, this box will show the secondary camera aboard the ISS. The camera will either be a wide-angle view of earth and space with parts of the space station in the foreground or it will show the astronauts working inside of the space station. At night, the view of earth from the sunny side of the planet captured 46 minutes ago is shown. When the live feed is offline, Solar flares, solar storms, and sunspots can be spotted from the latest time-lapse videos of the surface of our sun. These images are captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory and are updated every hour.
------------------
Note: Due to the delay in getting the camera feeds, the camera feeds and the maps might be out of sync by up to 15 seconds.
This is an ISS live space view from the NASA External HD live cameras currently mounted on the outside of the ISS. Thank you https://www.nasa.gov for providing this stream! More info can be found on our website here: https://afar.tv/streams/iss_spacestation/

4 Next Generation Space Stations!
Imagine living in a giant metal can, floating 250 miles above the Earth, with only a handful of other people for company.
Sounds fun, right? Well, that's what some brave astronauts and cosmonauts have been doing for the past 21 years on the International Space Station.
The ISS is an amazing feat of engineering and science.
It's bigger than a football field, has more room than a jumbo jet, and hosts hundreds of experiments that help us learn about our planet and beyond.
But nothing lasts forever, not even a $150 billion space station.
The ISS is getting old and tired.
It's losing air from tiny cracks that are hard to find and fix.
It's also costing a lot of money to keep it running and safe.
NASA wants to retire the ISS by 2030, but there's no guarantee it will last that long.
That's why NASA and other space agencies are working on new stations that will take its place.
What will these new stations look like?

One thing you can do that's free is visit www.websdr.org. Just pick a station and you can listen in to some live HF bands.
Some good resources I've dealt with that are reputable.

The Fun Of Ham Radio DX - Contacting Stations Around The Globe
There are many aspects to ham radio. This is just one of them, working DX (over seas) contacts for competition or just for a chat. Here I show you a sample of contacting a few stations at random. This is only part of ham radio, I realize a lot of these are just quick contacts but it feels nice to know your signal is reaching other parts of the world. Near the end of the video I met a nice person and we had a long chat, most of it edited out of the video for time of course. So in ham radio you can also just ragchew and make friends and chat for a while, or you can get into contesting and make quick contacts and move on. Something for everyone I guess.

Getting Started with Ham Radio
In this video, Amber sits down with Ham Radio expert Josh Naas to discuss Family Communication. Cell phones are often used as the primary form of communication, but what would you use if cell towers go down? A PACE Plan, or Primary, Alternate, Contingency, and Emergency Plan, can play a key role in a worst-case scenario.
Josh also lines out the different types of radios, which would apply to various scenarios.

In this video, I give a brief history of why I decided to get into ham, I show some of my equipment and give some ideas for a new basic setup and some ham radio antenna ideas. I also give some ideas at the end of the question... Why get into ham?
One thing you can do that's free is visit www.websdr.org. Just pick a station and you can listen in to some live HF bands.
Some good resources I've dealt with that are reputable.
Ham Radio Outlet: www.hamradio.com
DX Engineering: www.dxengineering.com
Giga Parts: www.gigaparts.com
R&L Electronics: www.randl.com
Amazon is actually not a good place to get most ham gear, except the Baofeng below, they are usually higher than everyone else!
