The Southern Connecticut Gas Company (SCG) is a natural gas distribution company that delivers natural gas and energy services to more than 185,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers along or near the Long Island Sound shoreline. SCG is a subsidiary of UIL Holdings Corporation (UIL). UIL acquired SCG from Iberdrola S.A., a global energy company headquartered in Bilbao, Spain, in 2010.
Through its predecessor companies, New Haven Gas and Bridgeport Gas, SCG has served the shoreline region of southern Connecticut for more than 160 years. The company’s service territory includes the Connecticut cities of Bridgeport and New Haven, as well as the towns of Easton, Fairfield, Stratford, Trumbull, Westport and Weston in Fairfield County; Branford, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Milford, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, West Haven and Woodbridge in New Haven County; and Clinton, Westbrook, Essex and Old Saybrook in Middlesex County.
Greater New Haven is the metropolitan area whose extent includes those towns in the U.S. state of Connecticut that share an economic, social, political, and historical focus on the city of New Haven. It occupies the south-central portion of the state in a radius around New Haven.
The region is known for its educational and economic connections to Yale University, oceanside recreation and the beach-community feel of the shoreline towns east of New Haven, and the Trap Rock landscapes stretching north from New Haven.
The New Haven metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is the set of counties containing the contiguous urbanized area centered on the city of New Haven. The MSA consists of the entirety of New Haven County with 27 towns. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the New Haven MSA had a population of 861,113 in 2011. The New Haven MSA is also included in the wider region known as the New York Tri-State Area.
Definitions
There are several official definitions of Greater New Haven. There are twelve towns that are included in all definitions. These are:
The Connecticut River is the longest river in the New England region of the United States. Flowing roughly southward for 406.12 miles (653.59km) through four U.S. states, the Connecticut rises at the U.S. border with Quebec, Canada, and discharges at Long Island Sound. Its watershed encompasses five U.S. states and one Canadian province – 11,260 square miles (29,200km2) – via 148 tributaries, 38 of which are major rivers. Discharging at 19,600 cubic feet (560m3) per second, the Connecticut produces 70% of Long Island Sound's freshwater.
The Connecticut River Valley is home to some of the northeastern United States' most productive farmland, as well as a metropolitan region of approximately 2 million people surrounding Springfield, Massachusetts, and the state of Connecticut's capital, Hartford.
Etymology
The word "Connecticut" is a French corruption of the Mohegan word quinetucket, which means "beside the long, tidal river". The word "Connecticut" came into existence during the early 1600s, describing the river, which was also called simply "The Great River".
Unboxing Connecticut: What It's Like Living in Connecticut
Is everyone in Connecticut a rich elitist snob?
Did everyone here go to UCONN?
And are there ANY good beaches in this state?
We’ll answer those questions AND more. So, grab your snobby bottle of rose, and try not to get shot, we’re going to unbox the state of Connecticut!
Man. What a really pretty scene we have here. This is Connecticut. It’s fall, and as you can tell, the season is in bloom. There’s nothing quite like fall in Connecticut. And then winter comes and this place is miserable until March.
But Connecticut is a lot more than just autumn leaves. For such a small state, it’s really diverse. Some parts are New York City light and some are Massachusetts...ish. It’s kind of a combination of the Hamptons, Detroit and Alabama. There’s lots of rich people here - in fact, some of the...

Wow there are some really terrible parts of Connecticut, I'll tell you that!
Connecticut, It’s a unique state located in southern New England. It’s scattered with a mix of rural towns and coastal cities. Loooong Connecticut #history #funny
Let me introduce you to Long Connecticut. Connecticut and Pennsylvania fought three wars over this strip of land, and Uncle Sam gave that land to Pennsylvania. Even so, Connecticut managed to hold on to this completely disconnected piece of land on Lake Eerie that was nearly the size of Connecticut itself until the year 1800. What do you think should’ve happened? Personally I think it’d be great to have two Connecticuts that are almost 400 miles apart, or we could let Connecticut go all the way from sea to shining sea, taking over Cleveland, Chicago, and two state capitals in the process. #shorts

Now unspeakable terror awaits, when Jonah, the boy who communicated with the dead, returns to unleash a new kind of horror on the innocent and unsuspecting family.

Connecticut. By area it’s the third smallest state in the entire United States, yet is home to millions of residents. An old and historic state, it’s today a center of the US financial industry. Despite its small size, Connecticut has a unique culture, divided between New England and the New York metro area. Home to a beautiful coastline, densely populated urban areas, as well as plenty of countryside, Connecticut is the fifth place I will talk about in The US Explained, a 56 part series on every state, territory, and federal district in the country, by order of admission.

There’s lots of rich people here - in fact, some of the wealthiest areas in the nation. But its inner cities are miserable, and there’s rednecks all over the rural parts. But we’re getting way ahead of ourselves.
For a more complete picture of Connecticut we need to look at things from a higher level and then check out each county and region.
This is Connecticut.

Wow there are some really terrible parts of Connecticut, I'll tell you that!
Connecticut, It’s a unique state located in southern New England. It’s scattered with a mix of rural towns and coastal cities. It’s best known for its beautiful fall foliage, being home to Yale University, and for being the richest state in America… or what many Connecticut residents would say, the most expensive. There’s a lot of snobs here, and you might not quite fit in.
But not every part of Connecticut is nice. There are some really bad places here, too. For this video, we’re going to look at the worst places you can live in the state of Connecticut. That way, if you decide to move here, you’ll know which parts of this state to avoid.
Now, lots of people ask - what makes a bad place to live? Well, these are the places where the crime is high, places are rundown, people are out of work and the homes are really cheap. Plus, I took into account YOUR opinion everyone. You people in Connecticut know where the bad and good areas are. So let’s take a look at the worst places you can live in Connecticut.
Let's begin.

#shorts
Based on a chilling true story, Lionsgate's THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT charts one family's terrifying, real-life encounter with the dark forces of the supernatural. When the Campbell family moves to upstate Connecticut, they soon learn that their charming Victorian home has a disturbing history: not only was the house a transformed funeral parlor where inconceivable acts occurred, but the owner's clairvoyant son Jonah served as a demonic messenger, providing a gateway for spiritual entities to crossover.
Now unspeakable terror awaits, when Jonah, the boy who communicated with the dead, returns to unleash a new kind of horror on the innocent and unsuspecting family.
