Westmeath is the 20th largest of Ireland's 32 counties by area and the 22nd largest in terms of population. It is the sixth largest of Leinster’s 12 counties in size and eighth largest in terms of population. It was named after the historic kingdom and province of Meath, of which the county was the most western part. Westmeath was shired under The Counties of Meath and Westmeath Act of 1543. The Hill of Uisneach in the barony of Moycashel is sometimes regarded as the notional geographical centre of Ireland although the actual geographic centre of Ireland lies in neighbouring County Roscommon.
Westmeath was a constituency represented in the Irish House of Commons from 1611 to 1800. Between 1725 and 1793 Catholics and those married to Catholics could not vote. The borough was disenfranchised under the terms of the Act of Union 1800.

Soho is an area of the City of Westminster and is part of London's West End. Long established as an entertainment district, for much of the 20th century Soho had a reputation as a base for the sex industry in addition to its night life and its location for the headquarters of leading film companies. Since the 1980s, the area has undergone considerable gentrification. It is now predominantly a fashionable district of upmarket restaurants and media offices, with only a small remnant of sex industry venues.
Soho is a small, multicultural area of central London; a home to industry, commerce, culture and entertainment, as well as a residential area for both rich and poor. It has clubs, including the former Chinawhite nightclub; public houses; bars; restaurants; a few sex shops scattered amongst them; and late-night coffee shops that give the streets an "open-all-night" feel at the weekends. Record shops cluster in the area around Berwick Street, with shops such as Blackmarket Records and Vinyl Junkies.
SoHo, sometimes capitalized Soho, is a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, New York City, which in recent history came to the public's attention for being the location of many artists' lofts and art galleries, but is now better known for its variety of shops ranging from trendy upscale boutiques to national and international chain store outlets. The area's history is an archetypal example of inner-city regeneration and gentrification, encompassing socio-economic, cultural, political and architectural developments.
The name "SoHo" refers to the area being "South of Houston Street", and was also a reference to Soho, an area in London's West End. It was coined by Chester Rapkin, an urban planner and author of the The South Houston Industrial Area study, also known as the "Rapkin Report". This began a naming convention that became a model for the names of emerging and re-purposed neighborhoods in New York such as TriBeCa for "Triangle Below Canal Street", DUMBO ("Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass"), NoHo ("North of Houston Street"), Nolita ("North of Little Italy") and NoMad ("North of Madison Square"), among others.
SoHo is a premium entertainment channel in New Zealand available on Sky Network Television. The channel mainly broadcasts popular shows from American cable networks Showtime, AMC, Starz, HBO, and its sister channel Cinemax, which are themselves not available in New Zealand. It also broadcasts shows from Britain, especially from the BBC, and also broadcasts films.
There is also a SoHo channel in Australia, which launched on 20 August 2012.

Robert Troy TD: Wants staghunt ban rescinded
Fianna Fail TD for Longford-Westmeath, Robert Troy says he wants to see the government rescinding the ban on cruel staghunting. His statement was made on 18 July 2012 in Dail Eireann during the Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Second and Subsequent Stages.
Deputy Troy's stance on this issue of cruelty to animals beggars belief. It's hard to believe that any right-thinking person with a vestige of compassion would want to bring back an abusive activity that caused 150 years of suffering to vulnerable deer hounded around the Meath and North Dublin countryside for "sport".
Deputy Troy should bear in mind the views of the majority in County Meath who were very much opposed to this hunt, not least the many farmers who suffered trespass and damage to their lands on a regular basis. "We...

"We go where the deer goes" was the battle cry of the Ward Union hunters, who openly admitted on RTE's Liveline that they cut wire fencing to gain access onto farmlands.
Deputy Troy clearly turns a blind eye to the cruelty meted out to these farmed deer during the hunt, forced to run for their lives before a pack of dogs, and the fatalities that ensued as a result â€" deer dying of aneurisms, drownings, road accidents, and choking while being roughly captured â€" all documented on official government monitoring reports accessed by ICABS through FOI.
And there were the horrific incidents aired on RTE's Liveline - in one, this hunt invaded a school yard in Kildalkey, forcing the lock-down of the school for the safety of the children who watched in horror as an exhausted stag was pursued by dogs; in another, a hunted deer jumped onto a main road, was struck by a car and had to be put down. Surely Deputy Troy would not want to see a return of this kind of incident?
Deputy Troy has previously informed us that he supports hare coursing because some of his constituents are engaged in the activity, and now stag hunting, because his partner is from East Meath and it is of 'interest' in that region. The Deputy should bear in mind that the vast majority of his constituents are opposed to cruelty to animals, and he should reflect that in his utterances in Dail Eireann.

Transcript: There was a high level of publicity surrounding the ban on stag hunting a few years ago. The parties now in Government were very cynical in opposition at the time in their approach to the issue. Deputies who were very much against blood sports came out against the ban and some Deputies made a promise to the people in the affected area that this ban would be rescinded once they come to power. I know that part of the country well as it where my partner is from, and it was one of the main issues in the area during the last general election. As it was a commitment made during the last general election campaign, I thought the Government parties might have used the opportunity arising from this Bill to rescind the ban on stag hunting, as previously promised. We are now getting conflicting reports on that. The Minister of State, Deputy McEntee — a man I greatly admire — has said that it is only a matter of time until it is rescinded, and then the Taoiseach said that was his own personal opinion. As the person with ultimate responsibility in this area, perhaps the Minister might indicate his own position and the Government's position on this issue. The people of Meath East have a great interest in it. The Government is in power for 16 months and it would be nice to see a more concrete decision on endorsing the firearms licences, rather than just kicking the can three years down the road.

Fore, a village found in a valley of County Westmeath.
It is an amazing place which contains the upstanding remains of numerous archaeological features and is associated with St Feichín who founded an Early Christian monastery there around 630 AD.
The seven wonders of Fore are connected with St Feichín’s miraculous powers, which we will show you in this video.

The second talk in our 2023 Winter Talks Series features Ronan McGreevy. This talk examines Field Marshal Sir Henry Wilson MP and Brigadier John Nicholson as Irish imperialists and martyrs for the Northern Ireland state.
