The Socialist Party of Serbia (Serbian:Социјалистичка партија Србије, СПС / Socijalistička partija Srbije, SPS) is a political party in Serbia that officially identifies as democratic socialist. During the rule of its leader Slobodan Milošević (and after), the party utilised some nationalist rhetoric and themes, and has therefore been labelled a Serbian nationalist party, although the SPS has never identified itself as such. Nowadays, the party declares to be democratic leftist, advocating Socialism of the 21st century.
History
The Socialist Party of Serbia was founded in 1990 as a merger between the League of Communists of Serbia, led by Slobodan Milošević, and the Socialist Alliance of the Working People of Serbia, led by Radmila Anđelković.
Its membership from its foundation in 1990 to 1997 involved many elements of the social strata of Serbia, including: state administrators, including business management elites of state-owned enterprises; employees in the state-owned sector; less privileged groups farmers; and dependants (the unemployed and pensioners). From 1998 to 2000, its membership included: apparatchiks at administrative and judicial levels; the nouveau riche, whose business success was founded solely from their affiliation with the regime; top army and police officials and a large majority of the police force. Large numbers of people became members simply for reasons of patronage: to maintain or gain important positions, while holding little commitment to the SPS program . Following its foundation, the SPS demanded strict loyalty to its leader, Milošević, by top party officials and any sign of independence from such loyalty led to expulsion from the party. Anyone who went against policy as defined by the party leadership could face sanctions or expulsion.
This list only includes parties that use the exact name "Socialist Party" for themselves, sometimes alongside the name of the country in which they operate. The list does not include political parties that use the word "Socialist" in addition to one or more other political adjectives in their names. For example, the numerous parties using the name "Socialist Workers' Party" are not included.
The Socialist Party was founded in October 1971 as a Maoist party named the Communist Party of the Netherlands/Marxist–Leninist (KPN/ML). This KPN/ML was formed following a split from the Communist Unity Movement of the Netherlands (Marxist-Leninist). The issue that provoked the split from KEN(ml) was an intense debate on the role of intellectuals in the class struggle. The founders of KPN/ML, with Daan Monjé in a prominent role, belonged to the 'Proletarian' wing of the KEN(ml), who did not want an organization dominated by students and intellectuals. In 1972 KPN/ML changed its name to Socialistiese Partij (Socialist Party). Even in its early years, while adhering to Maoist principles such as organizing the masses, the SP was very critical of the Communist Party of China like in condemning the support for Unita in Angola (The brochure: "Antwoord aan de dikhuiden van de KEN").
There are nearly 70,000 hectares of vineyards in Serbia, producing about 425,000 tons of grapes annually. The majority of Serbian wines are produced in local wineries.
The Serbian wine industry is showing signs of significant growth, as evidenced by In Vino, an annual international wine festival that is held in Belgrade since 2004 on an annual basis. Also, since 2010, an annual international wine fair is held at the Belgrade Fair, named "Beo Wine Fair".
Harvest season in Serbia begins in July and ends in October.
History
The history of wine-making in Serbia dates back to prehistory. Viticulture was rich during the Roman period. Wine has been part of Serbian culture since the establishment of statehood, especially during the reign of the Nemanjić dynasty (1166–1371), which encouraged and promoted viticulture.
Former Yugoslavia was among the top-ten world wine producing countries. At its peak in the 1970s, it produced over 6 million hectolitres annually. However, largely due to the constraints of the socialist state, emphasis was put on quantity rather than quality. Many wines were mass-produced in large agricultural combines such as Navip and Rubin, with generally low quality standards in all stages of the wine-making process. The 1980s saw a sharp decline in production and exports, a development that continued in the 1990s with the Breakup of Yugoslavia and the subsequent breakdown of the Serbian economy.
Serbia claimed that it was not involved in the wars in Bosnia and Croatia. However the Serb rebel entities both sought direct unification with Serbia. SAO Krajina and later the Republic of Serbian Krajina sought to become "a constitutive part of the unified state territory of the Republic of Serbia".Republika Srpska's President Radovan Karadžić declared that he did not want Srpska to be in a federation alongside Serbia in Yugoslavia, but that Srpska should be directly incorporated into Serbia. While Serbia acknowledged both entities' desire to be in a common state with Serbia, both entities chose the path of individual independence and so the Serbian government did not recognise them as part of Serbia, or within the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

US Socialist Convention Ridiculed After Righteous Outburst Over 'Gender Pronouns'
Delegates at the Democratic Socialists of America convention are being ridiculed online after footage of them interrupting their 'comrades' to complain of 'sensory overload' and the use of gendered pronouns went viral.
The 2019 DSA National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, concluded on Sunday, but one moment from the conference is still being discussed widely on social media.
In the clip, an anxious delegate complains that the room is getting too loud for him to focus, before another slams his use of the collective pronoun 'guys' for addressing the room.

Ask Prof Wolff: Why a Socialist Party for the US
A patron of Economic Update asks: "Noting the success of the third party "Farmer-Labor Party" in securing power in the state of Minnesota, particularity in the 1930s, do you think it is useful and necessary to learn from that movement how to create a successful socialist party in the United States. Given the turbulent moment of that time in history and of our current situation, do you think that a similar force is needed to drag the country (or localities) to the socialism we desperately need?"

Venezuela socialist party takes control of once-defiant congress
President Nicolas Maduro has extended his grip on power as the governing socialist party took control of Venezuela's congress, the last national institution the opposition had held.
Maduro's party swept legislative polls last month which the opposition boycotted, saying they were a sham.
Some analysts say the loss of the National Assembly may jeopardise opposition leader Juan Guaido's political future.

From our very earliest education Americans are told that the US has never been and will never be a socialist country. While it's true that the US has never been governed by a socialist party, it's impossible to look at US history and say we've never had strong socialist movements and notable socialist figures. Let's take a look!

The National Council of the French Socialist Party ratified a coalition deal with three other left-wing parties to run as a united front in June’s parliamentary elections. A large majority (62 percent) of the council’s members voted in favour, but only after hours of sometimes tense debates.
