The cemetery is a non-profit, non-sectarian burying ground of about 90 acres (360,000m2). It is contiguous with, but separate from, the church yard of the colonial-era church that was a setting for "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". The Rockefeller family estate (see Kykuit), whose grounds abut Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, contains the private Rockefeller cemetery.
Several outdoor scenes from the 1970 feature film House of Dark Shadows were filmed at the cemetery's receiving vault.
Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is a cemetery located on Bedford Street near the center of Concord, Massachusetts. The cemetery is the burial site of a number of famous Concordians, including some of the United States' greatest authors and thinkers, especially on a hill known as "Author's Ridge."
History
Sleepy Hollow was designed in 1855 by noted landscape architects Cleveland and Copeland, and has been in use ever since. It was dedicated on September 29, 1855; Ralph Waldo Emerson gave a dedication speech and would be buried there decades later. Both designers of the cemetery had decades-long friendships with many leaders of the Transcendentalism movement, and their design reflects that.
"Sleepy Hollow was an early natural garden designed in keeping with Emerson's aesthetic principles," writes Joachim Wolschke-Bulmahn in his Nature and Ideology. In 1855, landscape designer Robert Morris Copeland delivered an address he entitled The Usefull [sic] and The Beautiful, tying his principles of naturalistic, organic garden design to Emerson's Transcendentalist principles. Shortly, afterward, Copeland and his partner were retained by the Concord Cemetery Committee, of which Emerson was an active member, to design a cemetery for the growing community.
The area which became the town of Concord was originally known as "Musketaquid", situated at the confluence of the Sudbury and Assabet rivers. The name Musketaquid was an Algonquian word for "grassy plain", fitting the area's low-lying marshes and kettle holes. Native Americans had cultivated corn crops there; the rivers were rich with fish and the land was lush and arable. However, the area was largely depopulated by the smallpoxplague that swept across the Americas after the arrival of Europeans.
The third season of the Fox television series Sleepy Hollow premiered on October 1, 2015, and will consist of 18 episodes. This season it moved time slots to Thursdays at 9:00 pm. On February 5, 2016, the show premiered in its new timeslot of Friday at 8:00 pm.
On July 15, 2015 it was announced that Nikki Reed had joined the cast in a series regular role as Betsy Ross, an old flame of Ichabod. Also joining the cast is Shannyn Sossamon who is set to play Pandora, a mysterious new presence in Sleepy Hollow who seeks the assistance of Ichabod and Abbie. Jessica Camacho who plays the role of Sophia Foster, was also upgraded to series regular this season.
About 12 metres from the landing site, Sleepy Hollow measures about 9 metres across.
The name is an allusion to the locale mentioned in Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (which also gave its name to Sleepy Hollow, New York). According to a press conference, it also is the hollow where Spirit will sleep as it is checked before beginning to rove Mars.
The first season of the Fox television series Sleepy Hollow premiered on September 16, 2013, and concluded January 20, 2014, consisting of 13 episodes.

Cemetery buffs discover hidden treasures everywhere ... My husband and I happened upon Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, near Concord, Mass., choosing that 1855 cemetery because of its fascinating name ... cemeteries.
