States are the primary subdivisions of the United States, and possess a number of powers and rights under the United States Constitution, such as regulating intrastate commerce, running elections, creating local governments, and ratifying constitutional amendments. Each state has its own constitution, grounded in republican principles, and government, consisting of three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. All states and their residents are represented in the federal Congress, a bicameral legislature consisting of the Senate and the House of Representatives. Each state is represented by two Senators, while Representatives are distributed among the states in proportion to the most recent constitutionally mandated decennial census. Additionally, each state is entitled to select a number of electors to vote in the Electoral College, the body that elects the President of the United States, equal to the total of Representatives and Senators in Congress from that state.Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1 of the Constitution grants to Congress the authority to admit new states into the Union. Since the establishment of the United States in 1776, the number of states has expanded from the original 13 to 50. Each new state has been admitted on an equal footing with the existing states.
Silver certificates are a type of representative money issued between 1878 and 1964 in the United States as part of its circulation of paper currency. They were produced in response to silver agitation by citizens who were angered by the Fourth Coinage Act, which had effectively placed the United States on a gold standard. The certificates were initially redeemable for their face value of silverdollar coins and later (for one year – 24 June 1967 to 24 June 1968) in raw silver bullion. Since 1968 they have been redeemable only in Federal Reserve Notes and are thus obsolete, but still valid legal tender and thus are still an accepted form of currency.
Large-size silver certificates (1878 to 1923) were issued initially in denominations from $10 to $1,000 (in 1878 and 1880) and in 1886 the $1, $2, and $5 were authorized. In 1928, all United States bank notes were re-designed and the size reduced. The small-size silver certificate (1928–1964) was only issued in denominations of $1, $5, and $10. The complete type set below is part of the National Numismatic Collection at the Smithsonian'sNational Museum of American History.
A silver certificate is a certificate of ownership that silver owners hold instead of storing the actual silver. Several countries have issued silver certificates, including Cuba, the Netherlands, and the United States.
Cuba
Cuban silver certificates were issued between 1934 and 1949 (and circulated from 1935 to the early 1950s). Prior and subsequent issues of Cuban banknotes were engraved and printed by private bank note companies in the United States, but the series from 1934 to 1949 were designed, engraved, and printed by the US at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP).
The first Cuban banknotes were issued in 1857 for El Banco Español De La Habana. Beginning in the late 1860s, Cuba contracted the National Bank Note Company (NBNC) for two issues of banknotes in 1869 and 1872. After absorbing NBNC, the American Bank Note Company (ABNC) engraved and printed Cuban banknotes for issues in 1889, 1896, 1897, 1905 for the National Bank of Cuba, 1944, and a 1949–50 issue for the Banco Nacional De Cuba (printed until 1960). Between 1905 and the introduction of BEP issued Cuban silver certificates in 1934, no banknotes were produced.

Cuban silver certificates (Spanish:Certificado De Plata) were issued between 1934 and 1949 (and circulated from 1935 to the early 1950s). Prior and subsequent issues of Cuban banknotes were engraved and printed by nongovernmental private bank note companies in the United States, but the series from 1934 to 1949 were designed, engraved, and printed by the US government at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP).

Built at a cost of $79.4 million ($724million in today's dollars) the ship is the largest ocean liner constructed entirely in the U.S. and the fastest ocean liner to cross the Atlantic in either direction. Even in her retirement, she retains the Blue Riband, the accolade given to the passenger liner crossing the Atlantic Ocean in regular service with the highest speed.
Her construction was subsidized by the U.S. government, since she was designed to allow conversion to a troopship should the need arise.United States operated uninterrupted in transatlantic passenger service until 1969. Since 1996 she has been docked at Pier 82 on the Delaware River in Philadelphia.
Design and construction
Inspired by the exemplary service of the British liners RMSQueen Mary and Queen Elizabeth, which transported hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops to Europe during World War II, the U.S. government sponsored the construction of a large and fast merchant vessel that would be capable of transporting large numbers of soldiers. Designed by renowned American naval architect and marine engineer William Francis Gibbs (1886–1967), the liner's construction was a joint effort between the United States Navy and United States Lines. The U.S. government underwrote $50 million of the $78 million construction cost, with the ship's operators, United States Lines, contributing the remaining $28 million. In exchange, the ship was designed to be easily converted in times of war to a troopship with a capacity of 15,000 troops, or to a hospital ship .

What Are 1957 $1 Silver Certificates Worth?
Silver certificates from 1957 and 1935 are common, however they will still sell for 1.5-2x face value on Ebay. In the video we discuss the difference between silver certificates and federal reserve notes. Silver certificates have a specific measurement of silver associated with them. The Federal reserve notes do not. The large size one dollar silver certificates will be worth a lot more than the small size.

A relatively smaller series coming to the channel, this video seeks to provide a complete overview of the small size Silver Certificate 1 Dollar Bills - everything from what they are worth to how many series' there were to how star notes and full bill serial number run packs are valued. We'll start with an introduction and move to a presentation on the 1928 1 Dollar Silver Certificate, 1934 1 Dollar Silver Certificate, 1935 1 Dollar Silver Certificate, and 1957 1 Dollar Silver Certificate. There are some series with very valuable star notes and others that are significantly more common, so it pays to be informed and know what to be on the look out for if you are bill searching, bank strap hunting, currency hunting, or anything of that nature. The information is also good for casual banknote and currency fans as well.

How much are silver certificates worth? Basic video for commonly seen silver certificates and their potential value. I recommend buying a currency book for more detailed information. You can buy one at Amazon here https://amzn.to/2MuWflG

The Series of 1899 $1 Silver Certificate occupies a unique place in numismatic lore. It is the only currency ever printed to feature two U.S. Presidents — Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant. Known as the Black Eagle - this note was part of the last series of Silver Certificates issued in the 1800’s. These horse blankets, or large-size notes, date back 150 years and are more than half an inch taller and an inch longer than today’s bills. This is regarded as one of the last intricately designed U.S. currency notes. It was backed in silver by the U.S. Treasury and features a striking blue seal and serial numbers. - Plus is was backed by physical silver - It was not fiat currency. It was actually backed by silver! Stunning piece of US currency and history dating back 120+ years! Lets discuss the 1899 Black Eagle Silver Certificate and its value!
Welcome to Polar Currency and video number 59 - Talking Money #1. This is a new interview series in addition to the Currency Roundtable. Talking Money conversations will have a similar format as the Roundtable but with a more personal look into why people collect paper currency. In this first interview I get a chance to sit down with three coin collectors who have recently began collecting currency – in a big way. This isn’t about coins vs. paper but asking how and why they have crossed over to currency to collect both.

Is it called Paper Currency or Paper Money? Because it’s not paper at all. But I am a Paper Money Collector and like Paper Money Collecting as a Hobby. The Hobby is called Numismatics and if you collect you are a Numismatist. I also love History and work for a historical society and love collecting a Dollar or Dollars specifically the U.S. Dollar or is it the US Dollar? I have recently started collecting Obsolete Bank Notes or Obsolete Banknotes? Is Banknote one or two words. Today’s currency is made by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) and issued by the Federal Reserve Bank which issues Federal Reserve Notes that have a green seal and green serial numbers. At one point in time they issued large size banknotes called Federal Reserve Bank Notes. The Treasury Department used to issue Treasury Notes, Gold Certificates, Silver Certificates, and Legal Tender Notes, United States Notes and National Bank Notes. There were two sizes of U.S. currency. They were the Small Size Banknote, Small Size Bank note and the Large Size Banknote, Large Size Banknote. Before 1996 they were called Small Head Banknotes, Small Head Bank Note and after that they were called Monochrome Bank Note, Monochrome Banknotes. Silver Certificates.
Most people seem to have $1 silver certificates lying around that their parents gave them. $1 Silver Certificates pop up everywhere. In this video I tell you which $1 silver certificate bills are worth thousands of dollars and which are just worth face value.
