Lecture 11 | Detection and Segmentation
In Lecture 11 we move beyond image classification, and show how convolutional networks can be applied to other core computer vision tasks. We show how fully convolutional networks equipped with downsampling and upsampling layers can be used for semantic segmentation, and how multitask losses can be used for localization and pose estimation. We discuss a number of methods for object detection, including the region-based R-CNN family of methods and single-shot methods like SSD and YOLO. Finally we show how ideas from semantic segmentation and object detection can be combined to perform instance segmentation.

Segmented, Paged and Virtual Memory
Memory management is one of the main functions of an operating system. This video is an overview of the paged and segmented memory management systems. It describes how a segmented memory management system employs segments of different sizes, which can result in fragmented free space and prevent large processes from accessing the memory very often. This is compared with a paged memory management system in which small equal sized pages are used instead. Concepts such as logical and physical memory are explained, as well as the use of secondary storage to provide virtual memory.

VIDEO SUMMARY
The video introduces the STP model in marketing, which stands for Segmentation, Targeting, and Positioning.
STP is a widely used strategy to help businesses make decisions in developing their marketing strategies and creating value for customers.
Market Segmentation:
Market segmentation involves identifying different parts of the market where customers share similar needs and wants.
Segments can vary in size and specificity, such as demographic, geographic, behavioral, or psychographic segmentation.
The key benefit of market segmentation is to enable businesses to focus their marketing efforts more accurately and develop products tailored to specific customer segments.
Targeting Strategies:
There are three main targeting strategies: mass marketing, differentiated targeting, and niche or concentrated marketing.
Mass marketing targets the entire market, while differentiated targeting focuses on specific segments with unique marketing plans for each.
Niche or concentrated marketing concentrates efforts on a small, specialized part of the overall market to build a strong position and maximize returns.
Market Positioning:
Market positioning involves determining how to compete effectively in the target market.
The value proposition, crucial to positioning, must be customer-centric, focusing on what customers perceive as valuable.
A positioning map helps visualize different product positions in the market based on selected dimensions like quality and price.
Positioning Strategies:
Businesses can adopt various positioning strategies, such as offering more value for a lower price, providing good quality at a low price, or offering more features for the same price.
The key is to understand how customers perceive value and create a competitive advantage through a compelling value proposition.
Note: The video briefly introduces each element of the STP model, with a promise to delve deeper into market segmentation, targeting, and positioning in subsequent topic videos.

Computer Vision has become ubiquitous in our society, with applications in search, image understanding, apps, mapping, medicine, drones, and self-driving cars. Core to many of these applications are visual recognition tasks such as image classification, localization and detection. Recent developments in neural network (aka “deep learning”) approaches have greatly advanced the performance of these state-of-the-art visual recognition systems. This lecture collection is a deep dive into details of the deep learning architectures with a focus on learning end-to-end models for these tasks, particularly image classification. From this lecture collection, students will learn to implement, train and debug their own neural networks and gain a detailed understanding of cutting-edge research in computer vision.

------
Market segmentation is the process of dividing and grouping your users based on commonalities and shared characteristics, like interests, needs, wants and motivations. The aim of market segmentation is to enable brands to better target their products, services or content, making sure they reach the right users, in the right place and at the right time.
The 4 main types of market segmentation are as follows
#1 Demographic segmentation.
Arguably the most basic of the segmentation types, demographic segmentation divides users based on variables like age, gender, income, occupation, education level, marital status, religion or nationality. And it’s usually where brands begin in the segmentation process. This is because the info is easy to collect, simple to measure and analyze, and it’s cost-effective. Although, it has been criticised for being vague and not taking into account the needs and wants of individual consumers.
#2 Geographic Segmentation
Geographic segmentation basically groups users based on their geographic details. The 5 key areas that marketers take into account when segmenting geographically are:
Location, Urbanicity, Climate, Culture and Language.
#3 Behavioral segmentation.
Behavioral segmentation groups users based on their actions. This could be in a store, on a website or in an app. Behavioral data tends to be gathered and analyzed through algorithms or tools like Google Analytics. Behavioral data collects and tracks things like a user’s ‘dwell time’ on a website, a website’s bounce rate, online or in-store actions, communications with the brand and whether they are new or returning users.
#4 Psychographic segmentation.
Arguably one of the most subjective and difficult to quantify, but also the most valuable. Psychographic segmentation focuses on a user’s psychological attributes, such as personality, values, attitudes, opinions, interests and lifestyles. Psychographics offer such a personal look into what consumers like, dislike, need, want and love.
That being said, psychographic information is definitely the most difficult to collect and analyze. Marketers must also make sure that information is interpreted properly, and for the right reasons.
Now these aren’t mutually exclusive, multiple segmentation types can be used together and can really complement each other, drawing actionable insights for more accurate segmentation and analysis.
Overall, segmentation helps to focus marketing efforts, making sure products, services and campaigns are streamlined and delivered to the most appropriate audience for that brand.
Each segmentation type will have its benefits and its drawbacks. So it’s important to always remember to respect the privacy of your users, and make sure you’re transparent in your endeavors.
