The Second Hungarian Republic (1946 – 1949) – How Hungary Became Communist After WW2
How did Hungary become communist in 1949? After the Second World War Hungary fell in the Soviet sphere of influence. Yet, it wasn't a communist state right away. From 1946 till 1949 there was the Second Hungarian Republic (Magyar Köztársaság). A short-lived state that would find its demise at the hands of the Hungarian communists and was replaced by the Hungarian People's Republic (Magyar Népköztársaság).

What if the Hungarian Soviet Republic of 1919 Survived?
The Hungarian Soviet Republic existed for 133 days in 1919, but got invaded by all their neighbors, with a kingdom being established in the nation. Sadly, when Hungary got defeated, the flag also changed from one of the most creative designs, to the Hungarian Tricolor. After Hungary’s attempt at communism, they became communist once again in 30 years later, after the Second World War ended.
What would change if Hungary managed to remain communist in 1919, how would that change the Second World War, let’s find out?

The Hungarian Republic (1919 – 1920) – The White Terror in Hungary and the Rise of Miklós Horthy
Interested in Hungarian history? The Hungarian Republic (Magyar Köztársaság) was a short-lived state that succeeded the Hungarian Soviet Republic. That communist state was taken down during the Hungarian-Romanian War by the Romanian Army and the Hungarian National Army led by Admiral Miklós Horthy. When that happened the First Hungarian Republic (Első Magyar Köztársaság) was re-established but soon taken down. The Hungarian Republic had a militantly anti-communist authoritarian government who carried out the White Terror as revenge for the Red Terror carried out by the Hungarian communists. After the Treaty of Trianon was signed also this short-lived republic went down to make way for the Kingdom of Hungary. Learn more about the history of Hungary.

Description: The Kingdom of Hungary , sometimes referred to as the Regency, existed as a country from 1920 to 1946 under the rule of Regent Miklós Horthy. Horthy officially represented the Hungarian monarchy of Charles IV, Apostolic King of Hungary. Attempts by Charles IV to return to the throne were prevented by threats of war from neighbouring countries and by the lack of support from Horthy. Some historians consider that the country was a client state of Germany from 1938 to 1944. The Kingdom of Hungary under Horthy was an Axis Power during most of World War II. In 1944, after Horthy's government negotiated secretly with the Allies, and also considered leaving the war, Hungary was occupied by Nazi Germany and Horthy was deposed. The Arrow Cross Party's leader Ferenc Szálasi established a new Nazi-backed government, effectively turning Hungary into a German-occupied puppet state. After World War II, Hungary fell within the Soviet Union's sphere of interest. In 1946, the Second Hungarian Republic was established under Soviet influence. In 1949, the communist Hungarian People's Republic was founded.
