Established in November 1996, the Voice was previously the paper of Scottish Militant Labour, before being handed over to the Scottish Socialist Party on its formation in 1998.Alan McCombes, the paper's founder, continued to act as editor until 2003. For a short time it was edited by Kath Kyle, followed by Joanna Harvie, and it is currently edited by Ken Ferguson.
It was originally launched as a fortnightly publication, and moved to a weekly format in May 2001 at great financial cost, before returning to fortnightly production in 2007. In 2009, it changed from a broadsheet to a tabloid format.
The paper's current readership is estimated at 3,000, with distribution through subscription and street sales.
The aims of the Voice are:
To report the struggles of ordinary people against injustice, discrimination and exploitation.
To expose corruption and hypocrisy in high places.
Socialist Voice was a Canada-based web-based publication that described itself as "Marxist perspectives for the 21st century."
It was produced by loose network of Marxists who circulate it at movement events in Canada. Most were formerly members of the Communist League, the sister organization to the U.S.'s Socialist Workers Party. Some support the reunified Fourth International. Its two editors were John Riddell, a former leader of the League for Socialist Action (Canada) and Communist League (Canada), and Roger Annis, aerospace worker and trade unionist. Its board of contributing editors also included socialists in the United States and England.
It published weekly articles that are available by e-mail. In August, 2007, the publication began to appear in print form as well. By March 2011 however, the publication ceased its activity due to "Commitments to broader movements".
Socialist Voice is a socialist group in New Zealand which describes itself as "fighting against the exploitation and injustices that people face every day". It is active in Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington. It is affiliated internationally with the Committee for a Workers' International, an international socialist organization headquartered in London, United Kingdom. The CWI section in America, which has the same name, has attracted some attention.
The organisation was previously known as Socialist Alternative.

While Socialist Voice supports reforms that improve the living standards of working people, it opposes a strictly reformist attitude to social change. In an article titled "Socialist perspectives for Aotearoa / New Zealand", first published on the Socialistworld.net, it wrote,"the problem is that the working class is lacking a leadership with the foresight to challenge the capitalist system itself – the real source of all the underlying problems."
Socialist Voice is the official newspaper of the Communist Party of Ireland (CPI). The paper is published monthly and is also available online. It provides a Marxist analysis of political events as well as including historic pieces, book and film reviews and international news.
The paper followed on from a pervious newspapers of the Communist Party of Ireland the monthly The Irish Socialist and weekly bulletin The Irish Workers' Voice.
In modern use, "Scottish people" or "Scots" is used to refer to anyone whose linguistic, cultural, family ancestral or genetic origins are from within Scotland. The Latin word Scotti originally referred to the Gaels but came to describe all inhabitants of Scotland. Though sometimes considered archaic or pejorative, the term Scotch has also been used for the Scottish people, though this usage is current primarily outside Scotland.
There are people of Scottish descent in many countries other than Scotland. Emigration, influenced by factors such as the Highland and Lowland Clearances, Scottish participation in the British Empire, and latterly industrial decline and unemployment, resulted in Scottish people being found throughout the world. Large populations of Scottish people settled the new-world lands of North and South America, Australia and New Zealand. There is a Scottish presence at a particularly high level in Canada, which has the highest level per-capita of Scots descendants in the world and second largest population of descended Scots ancestry after the United States. They took with them their Scottish languages and culture.
The party leader said the SNP and ScottishLabour had become ‘co-conspirators in socialist conformity’, leaving the Scottish Tories as the ‘sole voice’ of mainstream Scotland and he went on.
Robin Harper’s scathing resignation letter gave voice to concerns about the party’s leftwards shift – he wrote that the ScottishGreens are ‘moving into the gap left by the Socialists’ – and its influence on the SNP.
Reflecting on how he came to support the party and Scottish independence, Cox said. “I did the voice of Labour for 1997, and I was very passionate about socialism – I am a socialist, essentially, I’m a socialist ...And then systematically we blew it ... .
