Science fiction theatre includes live dramatic works, but generally not cinema or television programmes. It has long been overshadowed by its literary and broadcast counterparts, but has a long history, and indeed introduced the word robot into global usage.
Hosted by Truman Bradley, a 1940s film actor and former war correspondent, each episode introduced stories which had an extrapolated scientific, or pseudo-scientific emphasis based on actual scientific data available in the 1950s. Typically, the story lines related to the life or work of scientists, engineers, inventors and explorers. The program concentrated on such concepts as space flight, robots, telepathy, flying saucers, time travel, and the intervention of extraterrestrials in human affairs.
Airing a total of 78 25–26 min. episodes, the series was also known as Beyond the Limits in second run syndication during the 1960s and alternatively as Science Fiction Theater.
Opposite to what happened in the 1960s, the first season was filmed in color, but to cut costs the second season was in black & white. The producers had originally thought that color TV would progress faster than it did.
Science fiction is difficult to define, as it includes a wide range of subgenres and themes. Author and editor Damon Knight summed up the difficulty, saying "science fiction is what we point to when we say it", a definition echoed by author Mark C. Glassy, who argues that the definition of science fiction is like the definition of pornography: you do not know what it is, but you know it when you see it.
Recursive science fiction is a subgenre of science fiction, which itself takes the form of an exploration of science fiction within the narrative of the story.
Analysis
In the book Resnick at Large, authors Mike Resnick and Robert J. Sawyer describe recursive science fiction as, "science fiction about science fiction". In the work, The Greenwood Encyclopedia of Science Fiction and Fantasy: Themes, Works, and Wonders, Gary Westfahl comments, "Recursive fantasy fiction – that is, a fantasy about writing fantasy – is scarce;" one potential example of recursive fantasy, however, would be Patrick Rothfuss' The Kingkiller Chronicle.

Science Fiction Theatre (intro and close)
Science Fiction Theatre (with your host, Truman Bradley) ran two seasons in the mid-fifties. Like many series of the 50s and 60s, this one had a memorable theme, and it's the only series I know that moved from color (first season) to b&w (second season). Each episode opened with Truman Bradley's demonstration of a scientific principle relevant to that week's story. This is the opening and closing to "Dead Storage" starring Virginia Bruce.

Science Fiction Theatre Entire Theme Music
In honor of my favorite mid-'50s TV show, Science Fiction Theatre, I present the show's theme music in what may be its entirety. Searching for this theme for years, I was only able to find two incomplete pieces that could constitute the whole original track. So I put them together! It took a lot of editing, including pitch shifting of one segment to match the other, noise reduction, and frequency response matching.
Web data suggests that this theme was composed by David Rose using the pseudonym Ray Llewellyn.
For you SFT fans, this should be a sentimental treat! Enjoy!

Science Fiction Theatre opening on KCTV 5 - 1984
Along with KCTV 5's Friday Fright Night I was a fan of Science Fiction Theatre every Saturday Morning (I seem to remember it starting at 11:00 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.) also on KCTV 5. I found this on an old VHS tape when I recorded the classic film "Silent Running" on Science Fiction Theatre in 1984.

Classic TV Theme: Science-Fiction Theatre
Remembered fondly by boomers, and later generations as well thanks to reruns, this show lived up to its title. It was not just fiction, but also science. Could sound be recovered from a rock? Can humans travel safely to Mars? Can watching a movie drive a man to murder? Why is someone transmitting the contents of an encyclopedia on a nonexistent tv channel? And Truman Bradley, there to introduce the concepts involved in today's story, and maybe do a demonstration or two. Some of it may seem silly in the 21st Century, but some of it may also have been prescient.
The first season was filmed in color, but some of the prints (the opening and closing titles especially) have faded badly. Season two was in black and white, but the titles and credits were longer than in season one, and only in this...
From the mid 1950s, here are the opening titles to "Science Fiction Theater," wherein they're much shorter than usual....same with the ending credits...very odd. Also note that DeForest Kelley is in the ending credits!!! (No, I didn't save the whole episode.)

Season two was in black and white, but the titles and credits were longer than in season one, and only in this season was the entire theme heard. (Both seasons are represented here.) The theme is credited to the mysterious 'Ray Llewellyn' - a pseudonym used by at least three composers who worked for ZIV for a flat fee without royalties, since they were under contract elsewhere. Best guess is that Ray Bloch (who led the orchestras for Ed Sullivan and Jackie Gleason) was the composer, with David Rose a runner-up. For more on the shadowy Mr Llewellyn, see here:

Science Fiction Theatre (with your host, Truman Bradley) ran two seasons in the mid-fifties. Like many series of the 50s and 60s, this one had a memorable theme, and it's the only series I know that moved from color (first season) to b&w (second season). Each episode opened with Truman Bradley's demonstration of a scientific principle relevant to that week's story. This is the opening and closing to "Dead Storage" starring Virginia Bruce.

Enjoy!

From the mid 1950s, here are the opening titles to "Science Fiction Theater," wherein they're much shorter than usual....same with the ending credits...very odd. Also note that DeForest Kelley is in the ending credits!!! (No, I didn't save the whole episode.)
Science fiction theatre includes live dramatic works, but generally not cinema or television programmes. It has long been overshadowed by its literary and broadcast counterparts, but has a long history, and indeed introduced the word robot into global usage.
Little green men coming out of paint cans, Phosphate mines and Slaked Lime, 1966, he was sixteen, it's Central Florida in the era of the dragline, play it over the pit and dig up more of that green shit, and trade it with the Russians, who are traditionally hated, you can imagine that after a few years that you'd run out of things to say, and I'll be here every day. Phospho~Gypsum, Radon-222, the daughters watch over you, on a transformer four stories high it walks like a cripple and turns on its base, diggin' up that Dicalcium Phosphate. Travel the blacktop and you won't have far to go to find an alien civilization, a creature from a creation that's from outer space. Sixty foot high for miles around; one million tons of Phospho~Gypsum tailings rise to the sky. Nearly half the world's fertilizer once lay beneath the overburden; it got taken off this sandbar, and now there's something that's left behind. Hey, this place is a mess! 'what are you takin' about? I'll clean it up later. No, that's not the way it is at all, I'm not a miner I don't care, man, that's pant of the system, I'm punk, but who's gonna indict the Wall Street Journal, just me and Bob Ray, it's just part of the system here on the surface of the planet and the day has come when there's only work left There's unlimited sunshine in a bottle of Tropicana, with his friends and his 'Spooky Tooth' 8-track flipped upside down, drivin' in his Mercury Monterey down to Lithia Springs, saying that if we could take the tailings, and build a building for the New York Stork Exchange, then we could tell everyone about how we live in a state that digs Radon by the ton and you'll be loved by everyone, and the government will give us a Superfund,
