People have inhabited the San Joaquin Valley for more than 8,000 years, and it was long one of the major population centers of pre-Columbian California. Starting in the late 18th century, successive waves of explorers then settlers, mainly Spanish and American, emigrated to the San Joaquin basin, first exploiting then driving out the indigenous tribes. The newcomers quickly appropriated the rich natural and hydrologic resources of the watershed for use in farms and cities, but found themselves plagued by flood and drought. Because of the uniform topography of the San Joaquin Valley, floods once transformed much of the lower river into a huge inland sea.
The San Joaquin series became the official state soil on August 20, 1997, the result of efforts by students and teachers from Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School in Madera, natural resource professionals, the Professional Soil Scientists Association of California, legislators, and various state universities.
The San Joaquin is Amtrak's fifth-busiest service and the railroad's third-busiest in California. During fiscal year 2013 (FY2013), the service carried a record 1.2 million passengers, a 6.6% increase from FY2012. Total revenue during FY2013 was US$39,401,591, a 1.9% increase over FY2012.
Underwater Junkyard: Dozens of vehicles sit below the surface of the San Joaquin River
An underwater junkyard of sorts lies beneath the San Joaquin River in Stockton. Dozens of vehicles have been dumped or accidentally driven into the river, and the sheriff’s office says they don’t have the resources to get them out. The San Joaquin River is one of the hardest working rivers in California, generating hydropower for millions of homes and providing drinking water for even more. It’s a 330-mile highway for endangered fish like trout and salmon starting in the Sierra and ending in the San Francisco Bay, but the middle of it takes an unfortunate turn.

Restoration of the San Joaquin River - KQED QUEST
Flowing 330 miles from the Sierras to the delta, the San Joaquin River is California's second longest river. But since the construction of Friant Dam near Fresno in the 1940s, most of the San Joaquin's water has been siphoned off to farmland in the Central Valley. Now, after years of lawsuits, a new effort to restore the river is offering hope that fish and farmers can co-exist.

Evaluating Non-Native Fish Populations in the San Joaquin River
In this short video, we highlight our mark-recapture study to evaluate #nonnative #fishpopulations in the #SanJoaquinRiver. This study uses large fyke traps to sample fish. One unique aspect of this #study is that #fishermen can help in the data collection process by returning tags of fishes that were marked. This information can help us estimate how big their #populations are.

Usually try and stay between 12-16 Feet of water. However again, that also depends on variables according to location. Just a rule of thumb.
We like Yo-Zuri and P-Line Lures. Rapalas are good options as well. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com has all your needs! We usually use deep divers. Always use a trailer worm!
We are no tackle experts when it comes to Rods and Reels. We are not sponsored and make no money from our videos. Just a fun family fishing channel. We buy affordable medium heavy action rods and affordable reels. Ugly sticks and Okuma usually. May have 1 Phoenix rod on deck.
We appreciate all your support, comments, and feed back!
Come on out and Good Luck!!!

Rio Vista - Sacramento & San Joaquin River - Sherman Island - California Delta - Striper Fishing
California Delta Trolling for Striper
We mostly troll the around Brannan Island, West Bank, Sherman Island, Collinsville, and Eddo’s. We flip flop between the Sacrament River and San Joaquin River. We do venture out but those are our go to’s!
We troll anywhere between 2.5 - 3.5 MPH. Many variables come in to play. Wind, tide, direction, style of lure, depth, or more we're probably missing. Time on the water is your best way to learn.
How much Line is out you ask?... More variables! How deep is the area your fishing? Is your lure a deep diver or shallow diver? Maybe a medium diver? A good rule of thumb would be 60-120 Feet.

The San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust recently acquired the Sumner Peck Ranch on Friant Road north of Fresno and hopes to eventually restore the site to wildlife habitat and include a natural surface trail system.
