Joan Baez (/ˈbaɪ.ɛz/ (|'baɛs| in Am. Spanish), born January 9, 1941 as Joan Chandos Baez) is an American folk singer, songwriter, musician, and activist whose contemporary folk music often includes songs of protest or social justice. Baez has performed publicly for over 55 years, releasing over 30 albums. Fluent in Spanish as well as in English, she has also recorded songs in at least six other languages. She is regarded as a folk singer, although her music has diversified since the counterculture days of the 1960s and now encompasses everything from folk rock and pop to country and gospel music. Although a songwriter herself, Baez generally interprets other composers' work, having recorded songs by the Allman Brothers Band, the Beatles, Jackson Browne, Leonard Cohen, Woody Guthrie, Violeta Parra, The Rolling Stones, Pete Seeger, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and many others. In recent years, she has found success interpreting songs of modern songwriters such as Ryan Adams, Josh Ritter, Steve Earle and Natalie Merchant. Her recordings include many topical songs and material dealing with social issues.
Joan Baez is the self-titled debut album by folk singer Joan Baez. The album was recorded in the summer of 1960 and released the same year. The original release featured 13 traditional folk songs, later reissues included 3 additional songs.
In 2015, the album was selected for induction into National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress for special recognition and preservation as one of the sound recordings in over 130 years of recording history that has "cultural, artistic and/or historical significance to American society and the nation’s audio legacy".
Though Baez was reportedly offered a contract with Columbia at the time, she chose to go instead with the independent Vanguard label, hoping for increased artistic license. Baez recorded the album in the summer of 1960 when she was nineteen. Most of the songs featured only Baez' vocals and guitar, with a second guitar (played by Fred Hellerman, of The Weavers), added to some songs. Despite the lack of strings and horns, backup singers and hit singles, the album went gold, although it did not make the Billboard 200 chart until 1962, following the success of her second album, Joan Baez, Vol. 2. Joan Baez peaked at number 15 and spent 140 weeks on the chart.
San Francisco (/sæn frənˈsɪskoʊ/), officially the City and County of San Francisco, is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California and the only consolidated city-county in California. San Francisco encompasses a land area of about 46.9 square miles (121 km2) on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, which makes it the smallest county in the state. It has a density of about 18,187 people per square mile (7,022 people per km2), making it the most densely settled large city (population greater than 200,000) in the state of California and the second-most densely populated major city in the United States after New York City. San Francisco is the fourth-most populous city in California, after Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose, and the 13th-most populous city in the United States—with a Census-estimated 2014 population of 852,469. The city and its surrounding areas are known as the San Francisco Bay Area, and are a part of the larger OMB designated San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland combined statistical area, the fifth most populous in the nation with an estimated population of 8.6 million.
San Francisco was one of the original bitmap typefaces for the Apple Macintosh computer released in 1984. It was designed by Susan Kare to mimic the ransom note effect and was used in early Mac software demos and Apple company fliers. An official TrueType version was never made, and San Francisco was rendered obsolete with the arrival of System 7.
Saint Francis, by Hank Gillette, is a free TrueType font of similar design sometimes used as a surrogate on non-Apple systems.
Nevado San Francisco, or Cerro San Francisco (Spanish pronunciation: [sam fɾanˈsisko]), is a stratovolcano on the border between Argentina and Chile, located just southeast of San Francisco Pass. It is considered extinct and is one of the several 6,000 m (19,700 ft) peaks in the area, of which the chief is the Ojos del Salado. The volcano is composed from andesite with the exception of basaltic cones and lava flows on the eastern side. These cones are part of the Peinado lineament and a sample was dated 200,000 years ago by argon chronology. On the summit lie two circle-shaped constructs, of Inca or Formative period ages.
"San Francisco Mabel Joy" is a song written by Mickey Newbury, and is one of Newbury's most notable songs, an opinion shared by the artist himself. The song first appeared on Newbury's 1969 concept album Looks Like Rain, a milestone album in the burgeoning songwriter movement in Nashville at the end of the 1960s/beginning of the 1970s. Newbury's original version is a slow folk song which relates the moving saga of a Georgia farm boy's experiences in LA. The song plays an important role in Newbury's legacy, it served as the title for his 1971 concept album Frisco Mabel Joy, though it was not initially included on the album, a new version was featured on 1973's Heaven Help The Child and 1988's In a New Age, a live version was included on 1973's Live At Montezuma Hall and Live in England.
Twenty one artists have recorded versions of "San Francisco Mabel Joy."Joan Baez included the song on her 1971 double album Blessed Are..., Waylon Jennings recorded the song on his 1973 breakthrough Lonesome, On'ry and Mean, and Kenny Rogers' version was featured on his 1978 smash The Gambler. Other artists who've recorded "San Francisco Mabel Joy" include John Denver, David Allan Coe, and Kacey Jones. The Box Tops recording of the song, retitled "Georgia Farm Boy," can be found on the expanded CD reissue of The Letter/Neon Rainbow.
Diamonds & Rust is a 1975 album by Joan Baez. Baez is often regarded as an interpreter of other people's work, and on this album she covered songs by Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, The Allman Brothers, and Jackson Browne. But Diamonds & Rust also contained a number of her own compositions, including the acclaimed title track, a distinctive song written about Bob Dylan. In a new documentary, "Joan Baez I Am a Noise," which features the singer-activist's personal archive of home movies, letters and drawings, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer opens up about her 60-year career and her life on the front lines of social change. Baez talks with correspondent Tracy Smith about the film and the surprising secrets she revealed; how Bob Dylan broke her heart; and how she expresses her less serious side. #JoanBaez "CBS Sunday Morning" features stories on the arts, music, nature, entertainment, sports, history, science and Americana, and highlights unique human accomplishments and achievements. This song sung by "Joan Baez" was written by "Bob Dylan" and the title of this song was also the name of Joan's album which was released in 1965 and peaked at number 10 in the album charts. In my opinion "Joan Baez" is probably the greatest female folk singer of all time, and she is also a very good guitar player.she has recorded so many great songs over the years and this is just one of many of her songs that i really like.

Let's drink to the hard working people
Let's drink to the lowly of birth
Raise your glass to the good and the evil
Let's drink to the salt of the earth
Say a prayer for the common foot soldier
Spare a thought for his back breaking work
Say a prayer for his wife and his children
Who burn the fires and who still till the earth
When I search a faceless crowd
Swirling mass of grey, black and white
They don't look real to me
In fact they look so strange
Raise your glass to the hard working people
Let's drink to the uncounted head
Let's think of the wavering millions
Who want leaders but get gamblers instead
Spare a thought for the stay-at-home voter
His empty eyes gaze at strange beauty shows
And a parade of gray suited grafters
A choice of cancer or polio
And when I search a faceless crowd
Swirling mass of grey, black and white
They don't look real to me
In fact they look so strange
Let's drink to the hard working people
Let's think of the lowly of birth
Spare a thought for the ragtaggy people
Let's drink to the salt of the earth
Let's drink to the hard working people
Let's drink to the salt of the earth
Let's think of the three thousand million
