The stations is a historical landmark in the City of San Fernando in Pampanga, the Philippines. The station was inaugurated by Governor-General Eulogio Despujol and Bernardino Nozaleda, the Archbishop of Manila, on February 23, 1892. José Rizal disembarked from this station on June 27, 1892 to meet some recruits for La Liga Filipina and again the next day en route to Bacolor. During the Bataan Death March in April 1942, the station served as the ending point for the 102-kilometer march from Bataan, from which Filipino and American prisoners-of-war were carted to Capas in Tarlac en route to their final destination, Camp O'Donnell. The station has been closed since the ending of northbound rail services by Philippine National Railways over twenty years ago.
The name La Pampanga was given by the Spaniards, who encountered natives living along the banks (pampáng) of the Pampanga River. Its creation in 1571 makes it the first Spanish province on Luzon Island (Cebu is older as it was founded by the Spaniards in 1565). The town of Bacolor in the province briefly served as the Spanish colonial capital when Great BritaininvadedManila as part of the Seven Years' War. At the eve of the Philippine Revolution of 1896, Pampanga was one of eight provinces placed under martial law for rebellion against the Spanish Empire; it is thus represented on the Philippine national flag as one of the eight rays of the sun.
Pampanga is the place to be if you want to eat the best of the Philippines. Erwan Heussaff is back on the road to taste authentic Kapampangan food and he’s taking some friends along to tell him more about the province. Pampanga is nestled in the central part of Region 3 and is considered as the “Culinary Capital” of the Philippines. It’s the birthplace of the famous sisig, but this video delves a little deeper into the roots of Pampanga’s food heritage.
From the origins of the famous Pampanga’s Best to the hidden buro maker in Lubao, this is the last food guide that you will ever need to discover the best flavors of Pampanga.

THE BEST CHICHARON IN PAMPANGA PHILIPPINES
Kapampangan heritage pork dishes are truly unique in their own way. We searched the town for beautiful stories of locals who cook and serve delicious family recipes in their homes. Sisig Matua, Tidtad, Asadong Matua, and Piticharon—these are the heirloom recipes that Kapampangans have passed down from many generations, so that the unique heritage of Kapampangan food will continue to prosper.
We chronicled the detailed processes of cooking these dishes and the stories behind them. This is one of the most heartwarming stories that we have featured, so we hope you enjoy it as much as we loved filming it.

🥒 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.
