Sally Brown is the younger sister of Charlie Brown in the comic stripPeanuts by Charles Schulz. She was first mentioned in early 1959 and throughout a long series of strips before her first appearance in August 1959. Kathy Steinberg was the first to voice Sally in 1965.
Character and appearance
Sally has flipped blonde hair with a cluster of curls and she wears a polka dot dress. In the TV specials the dress is colored light blue while sometimes it is pink. In the winter, and most of the time in the later years of the strip, she switched to a shirt and pants.
Sally has a "take it easy" approach to life, preferring to slide by while doing as little work as possible. Her favorite past time is sitting in her beanbag chair watching TV. One summer, Sally actually went to "beanbag camp," which consisted of nothing but lazing around in beanbags, eating snack foods and watching TV (causing her to get fat as a result). Sally has a good heart and a strong moral sense; like her older brother she is extremely sensitive to the unfairness of life. Charlie Brown usually goes to Lucy in her psychiatric booth when he is feeling depressed, but Sally prefers to confide her troubles to the school building, which is very protective of her and will drop a brick on anyone who does not treat her nicely.
Sally Brown (1982 – 2000) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. She was owned and bred by Robert Cowell and trained by Michael Stoute. She did not race as a juvenile but emerged as a top-class middle-distance performer in 1985, winning three of her six races including the Ribblesdale Stakes and the Yorkshire Oaks. She was retired at the end of the season and had modest success as a broodmare.
Background
Sally Brown was a "lengthy, angular" chestnut mare with a narrow white blaze and bred by her owner Robert Cowell at his Chevington Stud in Newmarket, Suffolk. She was one of the best horses sired by Posse, a Kentucky-bred stallion who won the St. James's Palace Stakes and Sussex Stakes in 1980. Posse's other progeny included the Coronation Cup winner Sheriff's Star. Sally Brown's dam Unsuspected was a successful racemare who won eight races between 1974 and 1976. As a broodmare she produced several other winners including Shoot Clear (Waterford Candelabra Stakes), Untold and Mohican Girl (Gala Stakes). She lived until the exceptionally advanced age (for a Thoroughbred) of 36, dying in June 2008.
Brown was born in Londonderry in Northern Ireland and grew up in the village of Ballykelly. She was born with dysmelia in her lower arms which resulted in her left arm not fully developing. She was educated at Limavady High School before moving to Loughborough in England in 2013.
Sports career
Brown took up athletics for enjoyment as a nine-year-old. She joined Springwell Runners and began entering junior competitions. In 2009 she took on Phillip Tweedy as her coach and the next year she took silver in the IWAS World Junior Championships in Olomouc in the Czech Republic.
Brown's time in the 100m and 200m sprint continued to impress and in January 2011, at the age of 15, she was selected for the Great Britain squad to compete in the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championship in Christchurch, New Zealand. In Christchurch she qualified through the heats of both the 100m and 200m T46 sprints. In the finals Brown finished sixth in the 100m, and third in the 200m securing the bronze medal. In April 2011 she travelled to Dubai to take part in her second IWAS World Junior Championships, winning gold in the 100m and silver in the 200m.
"The more people who learn of a crime, the more eyes we have helping us in our communities. Any avenue we can pursue that will help us in that end is something we wholeheartedly support. We're certainly an advocate of the program."
"Our women's team had a good win. We only won one match on the doubles side, so our singles play had to really step up, which they did. We took wins in the Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 spots to claim the win, all straight set wins. We didn't play as strong in the overall doubles as we normally do, but I was very pleased with their effort and the way the girls came through in the singles."
"Our men played well, we just couldn't get things going our way. They battled hard, but came up short. Andy had a good win, but we were flat in our doubles and hopefully when we get the chance to play them again we will perform much better."
"It?s a lot of fun for everyone who plays and everyone who comes to watch. People really get into it. Last year?s Town Hall team dressed in St. Patrick?s Day garb, while the year before they brought us out of the winter blues with a Hawaiian dress theme, complete with leis. You forget the fact that it?s a fund-raiser."
"We're building character. We had two of our men go to a third set tie-breaker and I was proud of the way they played. We are a young team making young mistakes, but we're building on each match and hoping to learn from our mistakes."
"He starts out very quiet. He squints, and you think he can't see, but he's observing."
"I'm better and I'm anxious to get home. Everyone remarks that I look much better."
"Every match from here on out will be tough and we will need to be ready to play. It will be interesting to see how we respond in these next few weeks."
"They set their goal before the match and took care of business. I'm really proud of how these girls have battled through their matches and the support they give each other. The thing about these girls is they have a lot of fight in them."
"We now have our backs against the wall and we will need both of the remaining conference matches to get into the conference tournament."

On March 23 1989 London's world famous Astoria played host to one of the biggest Ska festivals ever staged. The cream of contemporary British Ska were assembled along side several veterans of the scene. Much more than a mere revival this was a celebration of a musical form that has set peoples hearts on fire and feet in motion since the early sixties. We're talking big fun here.
Your MC for the night is the legendary Judge Dread; a rude boy in every sense of the words, he proves why he enjoyed a career that spanned nearly 30 years. The atmosphere is buoyant as the one after another the young shining lights of Bluebeat hop and bop around the red hot stage sending the crowd into a frenzy. Veteran star of Ska Laurel Aitken adds a touch of authenticity to the proceedings with blistering renditions of Sally Brown and Skinhead that bring tears to the eyes of some of the older members of the audience.
The bands -- The Hotknives, The Deltones, The Loafers, Potato 5 and Gaz Mayall's ground breaking Trojans -- all pay their dues to the past masters of Ska, simultaneously breathing new life into a music that simply refuses to lie down. Above all this was a showcase for a new generation happy to embrace the music with sunshine at its heart. A vibrant scene filled with sharp suited, beat crazy and, above all, fun loving youths.
A Skantastic, Skalubrious, Skalection of the sharpest sounds around ... SKANK IT UP!
