In the February 2008 presidential election, Baghdasarian was the party's candidate; he placed third with 17.7% of the vote according to final official results.
Rule of Law political party is part of the newly formed ruling coalition.
The rule of law is the legal principle that law should govern a nation, as opposed to being governed by arbitrary decisions of individual government officials. It primarily refers to the influence and authority of law within society, particularly as a constraint upon behavior, including behavior of government officials. The phrase can be traced back to 16th century Britain, and in the following century the Scottish theologian Samuel Rutherford used the phrase in his argument against the divine right of kings. The rule of law was further popularized in the 19th century by British jurist A. V. Dicey. The concept, if not the phrase, was familiar to ancient philosophers such as Aristotle, who wrote "Law should govern".
Rule of law implies that every citizen is subject to the law, including law makers themselves. In this sense, it stands in contrast to an autocracy, dictatorship, or oligarchy where the rulers are held above the law. Lack of the rule of law can be found in both democracies and dictatorships, for example because of neglect or ignorance of the law, and the rule of law is more apt to decay if a government has insufficient corrective mechanisms for restoring it. Government based upon the rule of law is called nomocracy.
The World Justice Project (WJP) is an independent, multidisciplinary organization working to advance the rule of law around the world. The rule of law provides the foundation for communities of opportunity and equity – communities that offer sustainable economic development, accountable government, and respect for fundamental rights.
The WJP's work engages citizens and leaders around the globe and from all work disciplines to advance the rule of law. Through three programs -- Research and Scholarship, the WJP Rule of Law Index, and Engagement -- WJP seeks to increase public awareness about the foundational importance of the rule of law, stimulate government reforms, and develop practical programs at the community level.
It was founded by William H. Neukom in 2006 as a presidential initiative of the American Bar Association, and with the support of 21 partners. The World Justice Project became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2009. Its offices are located in Washington, D.C., and Seattle, Washington, USA.
Armenia was a merchant vessel launched at Calcutta in 1796. Captain Thomas Meek (or Meik), was her only captain. In 1799 the East India Company (EIC) took her up. She made one trip to Britain for the EIC. On that trip she left St Helena on 6 July in the company of the East IndiamenTellicherry, Triton, and Barwell, and under escort by the 18-gun Cornwallis.Armenia arrived in Britain on 27 September.
Capture and postscript
The French privateer Clarisse captured Armenia on 5 July 1800 and sent her into Mauritius.Clarisse was armed with 16 guns and had a crew of 180 men under the command of Captain La Meme. Armenia encountered Clarisse at 7°30′S79°30′E / 7.500°S 79.500°E / -7.500; 79.500, and after a five-hour chase she caught up with Armenia and combat ensued. Captain Meik resisted, but after about 40 minutes of exchanging fire he stuck. Armenia had lost her Third Officer killed and six men wounded, one of whom died later; Clarisse appeared to have had three men killed. Another report has Clarisse's casualties as seven killed and 20 wounded.
The name Armenia enters English via Latin, from Ancient Greek Ἀρμενία.
The Armenian endonym for the Armenian people and country is hayer and hayk’, respectively. The exact etymology of the name is unknown, and there are various speculative attempts to connect it to older toponyms or ethnonyms.
Etymology
The earliest attestations of the exonymArmenia date around the 6th century BC. In his trilingual Behistun Inscription, Darius I the Great of Persia refers to Urashtu (in Babylonian) as Armina (in Old Persian) and Harminuya (in Elamite).
In Greek, Αρμένιοι "Armenians" is attested from about the same time, perhaps the earliest reference being a fragment attributed to Hecataeus of Miletus (476BC).Herodotus, in c. 440 BC, said "the Armenians were equipped like Phrygians, being Phrygian colonists" (7.73) (Ἀρμένιοι δὲ κατά περ Φρύγες ἐσεσάχατο, ἐόντες Φρυγῶν ἄποικοι.).
Xenophon describes many aspects of Armenian village life and hospitality. He relates that the people spoke a language that to his ear sounded like the language of the Persians.
Armenia is Vasilis Papakonstantinou's second album. It was somewhat a departure from his debut and a return to the more politically oriented song cycles recorded with Mikis Theodorakis and Thomas Bakalakos. Instead of interpreting the songs of a known composer, however, in this album Papakonstantinou chose to record a series of traditional songs from Armenia with a political-revolutionary content. The lyrics were freely translated and adapted to Greek by the well-known lyricist Lefteris Papadopoulos and the music was arranged and conducted by Tzik Nakasian.

What is the rule of law?
The “rule of law” is a popular but vague term. It’s one of those terms that lawyers and politicians tend to use so much it has almost become meaningless.
This video tries to explain and demystify the phrase so people (not just lawyers) can start using it with confidence – and without sounding like boffins.

How The Rule Of Law Promotes Prosperity | Intellections
The rule of law is another way of saying that laws, as they are written, are applied equally to everyone. If you break a law, it doesn’t matter how powerful, wealthy, or connected you are: you face the consequences. When followed, the rule of law leads to a more just and prosperous society.

The “rule of law” is a popular but vague term. It’s one of those terms that lawyers and politicians tend to use so much it has almost become meaningless.
This video tries to explain and demystify the phrase so people (not just lawyers) can start using it with confidence – and without sounding like boffins.
This is the first video in a series for high school legal studies students brought to you by the Rule of Law Institute of Australia. The video introduces the concept of the Rule of Law, a theme that will be present in later videos. For more information and accompanying materials follow the link to our legal studies website.

One of the most influential judges of the 20th century, former Master of the Rolls, Lord Bingham makes the case for the rule of law as the foundation of a fair and just society.
This short video for young people gives an overview of the Independent Judicial System of England and Wales, illustrating its history from the Magna Carta to present day. It explains the separation of powers, the different types of courts/tribunals and busts some of the myths that surround being a judge (such as no judge has ever used a gavel!)
In this video we look at the Rule of Law and the main principles it is based on. This video is part of the Civics Academy Introduction to Democracy Series. Check out our videos: www.civicsacademy.co.za
The Rule of Law is one of the ‘founding values’ of our Republic.
Chapter 1, Section 1(c) of the Constitution says that the Republic of South Africa is founded on the “supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law”.
This means, that the Constitution is the highest law of the land and no other law may conflict with it; nor may the government do anything that violates it. And that the Rule of Law is as supreme as the Constitution itself.
The Rule of Law contains seven equally important principles:
• Government action must be based on law.
• The law must be clear.
• The law must be accessible.
• Human rights must be respected.
• Everyone is equal before the law.
• Courts must be independent and impartial.
• Laws must be made through clear and transparent procedures, by legitimate, democratic bodies.
Experts from the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) discuss the meaning of the term "rule of law," and the ways that USIP works to promote the rule of law around the world. To find out more information, visit www.usip.org.

The rule of law is another way of saying that laws, as they are written, are applied equally to everyone. If you break a law, it doesn’t matter how powerful, wealthy, or connected you are: you face the consequences. When followed, the rule of law leads to a more just and prosperous society.
