The World Justice Project (WJP) is an independent, multidisciplinary organization working to advance the rule of law around the world. The rule of law provides the foundation for communities of opportunity and equity – communities that offer sustainable economic development, accountable government, and respect for fundamental rights.
The WJP's work engages citizens and leaders around the globe and from all work disciplines to advance the rule of law. Through three programs -- Research and Scholarship, the WJP Rule of Law Index, and Engagement -- WJP seeks to increase public awareness about the foundational importance of the rule of law, stimulate government reforms, and develop practical programs at the community level.
It was founded by William H. Neukom in 2006 as a presidential initiative of the American Bar Association, and with the support of 21 partners. The World Justice Project became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2009. Its offices are located in Washington, D.C., and Seattle, Washington, USA.

The World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index® is the world’s leading source for original data on the rule of law. The 2016 edition expands coverage to 113 countries and jurisdictions (from 102 in 2015), relying on more than 100,000 household and expert surveys to measure how the rule of law is experienced in practical, everyday situations by the general public worldwide. Performance is measured using 44 indicators across eight primary rule of law factors, each of which is scored and ranked globally and against regional and income peers: Constraints on Government Powers, Absence of Corruption, Open Government, Fundamental Rights, Order and Security, Regulatory Enforcement, Civil Justice, and Criminal Justice.

World Justice Forum 2019: World Justice Project Rule of Law Award Ceremony
The WJP Rule of Law Award recognizes global and local champions advancing rule of law. Announced on Tuesday, April 30 at the 2019 World Justice Forum: Realizing Justice for All, the 2019 award recognized Dr. Adam Bodnar and the Office of Poland’s Commissioner for Human Rights. Poland’s independent ombudsman and his team were honored for courageous efforts to stem the country’s backsliding on judicial independence and fundamental rights. The 2019 Rule of Law Award award was presented by members of the WJP Board of Directors: Ellen Gracie Northfleet, former Chief-Justice, Federal Supreme Court of Brazil and Petar Stoyanov, former President of Bulgaria.
