'Pediatrics' comes from the Greek words 'pedia' which means child, 'iatrike' which means treatment and 'ics' which means branch of science. This means Pediatric nursing is the science of child care and scientific treatment of childhood. This branch of medical science deals with the care of children from conception to adolescence in health care.
Training in the United States
The CPN (certified pediatric nurse) exam validates knowledge and expertise of pediatric nurses beyond basic RN licensure. Eligible RNs may have a diploma, associate's degree, BSN, MSN, or higher nursing degree and must have a minimum of 1800 hours of pediatric nursing experience. Over 20,000 nurses actively hold CPN certification. All pediatric nurses begin their career by becoming registered nurses (RN). Additional training specific to the care of children is then required. Training involves a mix of formal education and clinical experiences. Pediatric nurses can become certified in the field and may choose to further specialize. Students can enroll in an associate or bachelor's degree program in nursing. Some diploma programs offered exclusively through hospitals may also prepare students for the RN exam. Possible undergraduate paths could be to receive:
Pandura Royal College (Sinhalese:පානදුර රාජකීය විද්යාලය; also known as Royal College, Panadura,Royal College Panadura,Royal Maha Vidyalaya, Panadura) is a provincial school in Panadura, Sri Lanka.
School backgrounds
The school was inaugurated in 1978 as Janadipathy Vidyalaya and later renamed as Royal College Panadura. Current students of the school are referred to in the press as Panadura Royalists. The college conducts classes from grade 1 to 13 in both Sinhala and Tamil medium including English medium from grade six onwards. The college is spread across over 34 acres (140,000m2), and has a complete Information Technology Centre, facilities of over 10 scientific labs, auditoriums, Sports Complex with squash courts, basketball courts and table tennis, an international standard rugby football ground and a modern gymnasium, 2 cricket grounds and nets, swimming pool with diving facilities, along with volleyball and tennis courts.
A Royal College in some Commonwealth countries is technically a college which has received royal patronage and permission to use the prefix Royal. Permission is usually granted through a Royal Charter. The charter normally confers a constitution with perpetual succession and the right to sue or be sued independently of the members. The charter also usually provide for rights of recourse to the Queen in Council. Although incorporation is now cheaply and easily obtainable by registration, the distinction of a Royal Charter means that such charters are still sought by and granted to institutions considered to be in the public interest, typically learned professional societies.
Royal College (also referred to as Royal College Colombo,Royal College, Colombo 7,Colombo Royal College, or simply as Royal) is a selective entryboys' school located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Started as a private school by Rev Joseph Marsh in 1835, it was established as the Colombo Academy by Sir Robert Wilmot-Horton in January 1836, the first government-run secondary school for boys in the island.
Royal College is considered to be the leading public school in Sri Lanka and is often referred to as the "Eton of Sri Lanka". The school was founded in the British public school tradition, having been named the Royal College Colombo in 1881 with royal consent from Queen Victoria, and it was one of the first schools to be designated as a national school by the Sri Lankan government in the 1980s. As a national school it is funded by the government as opposed to the provincial council providing both primary and secondary education. The school was selected as "one of best innovative colleges" in the world by Microsoft in 2009.
The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, often referred to as the RCPCH, is the professional body for paediatricians (doctors specialising in child health) in the United Kingdom. It is responsible for the postgraduate training of paediatricians and conducts the Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) exams. It also awards the Diploma in Child Health (DCH), which is taken by many doctors who plan a career in general practice. Members of the college use the postnominal initials 'MRCPCH' while Fellows use 'FRCPCH'.
History
The United Kingdom's first national group of paediatricians was established in 1928 as the British Paediatric Association or BPA. Its first president was George Frederic Still. The BPA's initial aims were the advancement of the study of paediatrics and the promotion of friendship amongst paediatricians. Most paediatricians also belonged to the Royal College of Physicians and took the examination MRCP(Paeds). The BPA was granted was granted royal college status in August 1996. The MRCP(Paeds) exam was replaced by the MRCPCH in 1999.
