Ronald Wilson Reagan (/ˈrɒnəldˈwɪlsənˈreɪɡən/; February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004) was an American politician and actor, who served as the 40th President of the United States from 1981 to 1989. Prior to his presidency, he served as the 33rd Governor of California from 1967 to 1975, following a career as a Hollywood actor and union leader.
Raised in a poor family in small towns of Northern Illinois, Ronald Reagan graduated from Eureka College in 1932 and worked as a sports announcer on several regional radio stations. After moving to Hollywood in 1937, he became an actor and starred in a few major productions. Reagan was twice elected as President of the Screen Actors Guild, the labor union for actors, where he worked to root out Communist influence. In the 1950s, he moved into television and was a motivational speaker at General Electric factories. Having been a lifelong liberal Democrat, his views changed. He became a conservative and in 1962 switched to the Republican Party. In 1964, Reagan's speech, "A Time for Choosing," in support of Barry Goldwater's floundering presidential campaign, earned him national attention as a new conservative spokesman. Building a network of supporters, he was elected Governor of California in 1966. As governor, Reagan raised taxes, turned a state budget deficit to a surplus, challenged the protesters at the University of California, ordered National Guard troops in during a period of protest movements in 1969, and was re-elected in 1970. He twice ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nominations in 1968 and 1976; four years later, he easily won the nomination outright, going on to be elected the oldest President, defeating incumbent Jimmy Carter in 1980.
Other than the current 40 slot exemptions, flights into and out of the airport are not allowed to exceed 1,250 statute miles (2,000km) in any direction nonstop, in an effort to send air traffic to the larger but more distant Washington Dulles International Airport. In the 12 months ending March 2015, the airport served 21,195,775 passengers.
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (formerly National Airport) is a Washington Metrostation in Arlington, Virginia on the Blue and Yellow Lines. The station platform is elevated and covered and is the last above ground station on the Yellow Line in Virginia, heading into Washington, D.C. It is one of only two stations in the system to have three tracks (the other being West Falls Church). The station is located across Smith Boulevard from the B and C terminals at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA); the airport shuttle bus carries people to and from Terminal A. The mezzanines are directly connected to the B and C terminals by pedestrian walkways to Level 2 (gate level). The airport's Abingdon Plantation historical site is near the station.
The upper level consist of an island platform between two tracks, while the mezzanine contains the fare gates inside the airport terminal. Since all trains are northbound from here, the island platform is set up such that the "southbound" side is for Doraville trains and the "northbound" side is for North Springs trains. This is the second busiest railway station on the MARTA system, only surpassed by Five Points.
It was built around 2000, mainly for the 98 B-Line, a bus rapid transit line from Richmond to Vancouver. Located at the foot of the Airport Connector Bridge near the intersection of Russ Baker Way and Miller Road, it was the transfer point to the 424 Airport/Airport Station bus, which was the only daytime/evening route to the Vancouver International Airport main terminal. The N10 route provided service between Airport Station and the main terminal late night and early morning when the 424 was not in service.
Airport Station also served community shuttles going to the nearby community of Burkeville and the south terminal of the airport, which serves local and smaller airlines. IKEA also sent a shuttle bus to Airport Station to pick up customers.
