The Washington Metro, commonly called Metro and branded Metrorail, is the rapid transit system serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area in the United States. It is administered by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), which also operates Metrobus service under the Metro name. Besides the District, Metro serves several jurisdictions in Maryland and Virginia. In Maryland, Metro provides service to Montgomery and Prince George's counties; in Virginia, to Fairfax and Arlington counties and the independent city of Alexandria. The system is currently being expanded into Loudoun County, Virginia. The Metro service area is largely coextensive with the inner ring of the Washington metropolitan area. Opened in 1976, the network now includes six lines, 91 stations, and 117 miles (188km) of route.
Metro is the second-busiest rapid transit system in the United States in number of passenger trips, after the New York City Subway. There were 215.3 million trips, or 712,843 trips per weekday, on Metro in fiscal year 2015. In June 2008, Metro set a monthly ridership record with 19,729,641 trips, or 798,456 per weekday. Fares vary based on the distance traveled, the time of day, and the type of card used by the passenger. Riders enter and exit the system using a stored-value card in the form of a paper magnetic stripe farecard or a proximity card called SmarTrip.
Planning for Metro began with the Mass Transportation Survey in 1955 which attempted to forecast both freeway and mass transit systems sufficient to meet the needs of 1980. In 1959, the study's final report included two rapid transit lines which anticipated subways in downtown Washington. Because the plan called for extensive freeway construction within the District of Columbia, alarmed residents lobbied for federal legislation creating a moratorium on freeway construction through July 1, 1962. The National Capital Transportation Agency's 1962 Transportation in the National Capital Region report anticipated much of the present Blue Line route in Virginia with the route following the railroad right-of-way inside Arlington and Alexandria to Springfield. It did not include a route in Prince George's County. The route continued in rapid transit plans until the formation of WMATA.
An ice hockey rink is an ice rink that is specifically designed for ice hockey, a team sport. Alternatively it is used for other sports such as broomball, ringette and rink bandy. It is rectangular with rounded corners and surrounded by a wall approximately 1 meter (40-48 inches) high called the boards.
Name origins
Rink, a Scots word meaning 'course', was used as the name of a place where another game, curling, was played. Early in its history, ice hockey was played mostly on rinks constructed for curling. The name was retained after hockey-specific facilities were built.
Dimensions
There are two standard sizes for hockey rinks: one used primarily in North America, the other used in the rest of the world.
International
Hockey rinks in most of the world follow the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) specifications, which is 61 metres (200ft)×30.5 metres (100ft) with a corner radius of 8.5 metres (28ft). The distance from the end boards to the nearest goal line is 4 metres (13ft). The distance from each goal line to the nearest blue line is 17.3 metres (57ft). The distance between the two blue lines is also 17.3 metres (57ft).
The Blue Line (French:Ligne bleue) is one of the four lines of the Montreal Metro in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was the fourth to be built, notwithstanding its alternate official name of "Line 5" (Line 3 was planned, but never built). Unlike the other three routes, the Blue Line does not serve the city's main Metro station, Berri-UQAM.
The line is served by a single yard located between Parc and de Castelnau stations which is completely underground and occupies a small portion underneath Jarry Park. Another service facility is located at the 500-metre end tracks following Snowdon station, but is rarely used by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).
On September 20, 2013, an 7-km extension north-east to St. Leonard and Anjou was announced by the STM and the Quebec government. The extension is to include five new stations and is planned to be operational by 2020. On May 28, 2014, it was announced that the project would be reviewed in priorities after the new government took over, and that if accepted again, construction would start in 2017.

Could the DC Metro get a Loop Line?
All those in favor of BLOOP, comment BLOOP.
With the latest extension of the Silver Line only just behind them, the DC Metro is already looking ahead at the next expansion. The issue at hand: congestion on the Blue/Orange/Silver line. The solution? Well, that depends on what they decide later this year.
In this video, Thom discusses the multiple options the Metro is considering, including their price tag and benefits. There is one clear winner for us: the BLOOP.

Took the DC metro (WMATA) Blue Line from Franconia Springfield to Largo Town Center. Once again I always seem to have a dirty front window. lol. This is a Full Ride on the Kawasaki 7000 Series Train front view. The line was opened back on July 1, 1977 and is 30.03 miles long. There are 27 station soon to be 28. There are adding a new station called Potomac Yard and will be located between Braddock Road and National Airport. Should be opened in the fall of 2022. The ride was about 1hr 15 minutes. (NOTE HERE) Sorry but the 1st few tunnels i didn't adjust the iPhone settings so it will be dark thank god the tunnels were not to long. It gets better after Regan Airport. Thank you for watching. 1987 BREDA 3000 SERIES TRAIN:
Unbelievable that this train is 36 years old. This classic train is schedule to retire in 2024 and will be replaced by a newer 8000 Series Hitachi trains. I am amazed how clean and well maintained those trains are.

It wasn't too bad a day (Friday 13th), so I went to the last car in the train, got out my camera and took some vids as the train traveled from the burbs of DC in Maryland to the city.
