Running approximately 20 miles (32km) from Van Nuys Boulevard in Sherman Oaks to Figueroa Street at the northern edge of Downtown Los Angeles, it is one of the major thoroughfares in the San Fernando Valley. It runs through the heart of the Valley and is home to many of Southern California’s major entertainment companies, passing both the Warner Bros. and Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. Then it enters West Glendale and continues as a major thoroughfare until it intersects with Victory Boulevard and Sonora Avenue. It then continues as the major thoroughfare through Griffith Park, though its name changes as it passes through the park, first to Zoo Drive, then Crystal Springs Drive, and then Griffith Park Drive, before becoming Riverside Drive again as it leaves the park at its southeastern boundary. Riverside Drive then continues east and south along the Los Angeles River, passing just north of the Silver Lake Reservoir. It runs along the northern edge of Elysian Park, passing north of Dodger Stadium before becoming Figueroa Street near the northern edge of Downtown.
The road network in Windsor, Ontario is a grid system with elongated blocks, generally aligned with the Detroit River, with East-West roads running parallel to it, and North-South streets running perpendicular (90 Degrees) to it. This is an adoption from when French Canadian settlers first built farms and streets in the area. Many streets have French names in result, such as Lauzon Parkway, Marentette Avenue (a quiet residential street), Ouellette Avenue (considered by many Windsorites to be its "Main Street"), and Pelissier Street. The current street system of Windsor (grid with elongated blocks) reflects the French method of agricultural land division where the farms were long and narrow, fronting along the river (this originates from French methods of tax collection, with more taxes being paid by propertyowners with waterfront properties, thus why riverfront lots were usually narrow).
Introduction
Most of the city is uniform in its grid, but a few neighbourhoods have their own system. Forest Glade and The Villages of Riverside were built recently (in the 1960s and 1970s, and have circular patterns, while Sandwich has its own grid roughly 45 degrees off from the rest of the city, in a triangle from Huron Church Road and the Detroit River, south to Tecumseh Road and Prince Road. This is due to the river turning southwest-ward just west of the Ambassador Bridge. Another major part of the city where the streets "jog" across Tecumseh Road is Fountain Bleu, when Tecumseh Road was the former city limit with the former Township of Sandwich South until the 1960s.
Riverside Drive is a scenic north-south thoroughfare in the Manhattan borough of New York City. The boulevard runs on the west side of Manhattan, generally parallel to the Hudson River from 72nd Street to near the George Washington Bridge at 181st Street. North of 96th Street, Riverside Drive is a wide divided boulevard; at other points it divides to provide a serpentine local street with access to the residential buildings. Some of the most coveted addresses in New York are located along its route.

Development
Riverside Drive was designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted as part of his concept for Riverside Park; the 191 acres (0.77km2) of land from 72nd to 125th Streets were undeveloped prior to construction of the Hudson River Railroad, built in 1846 to connect New York City to Albany. The first proposal to convert the riverside precipice into a park was contained in a pamphlet written by William R. Martin, a parks commissioner, in 1865. In 1866, a bill introduced into the Legislature by commissioner Andrew Green was approved, the first segment of park was acquired through condemnation in 1872, and construction began.

The contract for Manhattan was awarded 31 January 1964. She was laid down on 1 October 1964 at Marinette, Wisconsin, by Marinette Marine and launched 15 July 1965.
Operational history
Assigned to the Pacific Fleet, Manhattan transited the Panama Canal and steamed to Hawaii for duty in the US Naval Shipyard at Pearl Harbor.
Manhattan served in Viet Nam between November 1966 and September 1968.
Stricken from the Navy List 1 October 2004, Manhattan was sold by the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service (DRMS), 23 August 2005, to Grant Westmoreland, LMW Investments Inc. for $151,888.
Ex-Manhattan was converted to twin z-drive and reacquired by the US Navy, 7 October 2008 and was designated as unnamed yard tug YT-800.
