Richard Bennett Hatfield, PCONB (April 9, 1931 – April 26, 1991) was a New Brunswick politician and the longeset serving Premier in the province's history (1970–1987).
Early life
The youngest of five children of Heber Hatfield and Dora Robinson, Richard was brought up with politics in the household. His father, already a well known potato shipper, was Hartland's mayor when he was born. In 1938, at 7 years old, his father brought him to the Conservative Party of Canada leadership convention in Winnipeg where he met his namesake, R. B. Bennett. In 1940 Heber was elected Victoria-Carleton county Conservative Member of Parliament and served until his death due to cancer in 1952. Young Richard spent a lot of time in Ottawa even getting to know John Diefenbaker and his first wife Edna.
After graduating from high school in 1948 in his home town Hartland, Hatfield attended Acadia University for four years majoring in chemistry and English where he became a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He also got involved in drama, an experience that seemed to have the most lasting impact of any during his years at Acadia. "That was extremely valuable" he said. "It would benefit every politician to have a bit of theatre training... too many politicians get caught up using big words to impress, but don't know how to project feelings." After Acadia, he attended Dalhousie University to become a doctor but after a year he turned to law.

This is Us: Richard Hatfield
If you are thinking of going green and going with gusto, you need to meet Richard Hatfield. Recently Hatfield designed a motorcycle powered by lithium batteries that set a new land speed record for electric bikes at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Hatfield's motorcycle shattered the old mark and set a new record with a blistering 218 mph run. That's right 218 using batteries. Think of your Prius on steroids and running on just two wheels. A San Carlos engineer with a background in business, Hatfield comes from a long line of American tinkers and garage mechanics that like to design machines that go fast. Hatfield prefers efficacy with his speed and by using batteries he set the new record using about 18 cents worth of electricity and he was getting the equivalent of 60 miles per gallon.

The legendary Medley will be joined by Bucky Heard, his crooning stage partner since 2017 when he took over for the late BobbyHatfield, who died in 2003 — the same year that the duo entered the Rock & RollHall of Fame.
A small start. A big impact. A far-reaching, if sometimes underappreciated, legacy ... Five hours. Five bands ... King, indie songstress Juliana Hatfield, gospel favorites The Mighty Clouds of Joy, zydeco ace Zachary Richard and jazz drum legend Tony Williams.
Bricklin can’t remember who introduced him to RichardHatfield, the New Brunswick premier at the time, but the two men hit it off because they both wanted something from each other.
JudyHatfield led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and Bryce Huffman led the group in the 4-H Pledge...Richard and Carol Tedrick were our guest speakers ... Richard and Carol Tedrick did a wonderful job on their presentation.
