Richard Boone
Richard Allen Boone (18 June 1917 – 10 January 1981) was an American actor who starred in over fifty films and was notable for his roles in Westerns and for the TV series Have Gun – Will Travel.
Early life
Boone was born in Los Angeles, California, the middle child of Cecile (née Beckerman) and Kirk E. Boone, a well-to-do corporate lawyer. His father was a descendant of a brother of frontiersmen Daniel Boone and Squire Boone. His mother was Jewish, the daughter of immigrants from Russia.
Richard Boone graduated from Hoover High School in Glendale, California. He attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, where he was a member of Theta Xi fraternity. He dropped out prior to graduation and went to work in oil-rigging, bartending, painting and writing. He joined the United States Navy in 1941 and served on three ships in the Pacific during World War II, seeing combat as an aviation ordnance man and gunner on Avenger-class torpedo bombers.
Career
In his youth, Boone had attended the San Diego Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, California, near Oceanside. It was there that Boone was introduced to theatre under the tutelage of Virginia Atkinson, who spawned theatre interest in many who eventually found their way to Hollywood. Robert Walker, another Academy graduate and member of the school’s theatre club, Masque & Wig, became a close acquaintance of Boone's.

Richard B. Boone
Richard Bently Boone (February 24, 1930 – February 8, 1999) was an American jazz musician and scat singer.
Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Richard Boone sang in his Baptist church choir as a boy, then began playing the trombone at the age of twelve. He served with the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1953 where he played trombone in a military band. Out of the Army, he returned to Little Rock to study music at Philander Smith College. In 1956 Boone moved to Los Angeles where he played venues with other jazz musicians such as Dolo Coker, Sonny Criss, and Dexter Gordon.
Boone worked in the backup band for Della Reese between 1962 and 1966 then became a member of the Count Basie band. In 1970 he followed other African-American jazz musicians such as pianist Kenny Drew and saxophonist Ben Webster, and moved permanently to Copenhagen, Denmark.
In 1973 Boone was hired to play with the Danish Radio Big Band where he performed until 1986. Using Denmark as a home base, Boone was able to tour Europe.

Richard Boone was an American actor who was best known for his starring roles in Westerns including his iconic portrayal of a man called Paladin in CBS' Have Gun – Will Travel. The series aired both on the radio and on television from 1957 to 1963. Not only did Boone star in the series, but he directed many of its episodes and served as its narrator.

In 1965, he came in third in the Laurel Award for Rio Conchos for Best Action Performance; Sean Connery won first place with Goldfinger and second place went to Burt Lancaster for The Train.
While living on Oahu, Boone helped persuade Leonard Freeman to film Hawaii Five-O exclusively in Hawaii. Before that, Freeman had planned to do "establishing" location shots in Hawaii, but principal production in Southern California. Boone and others convinced Freeman that the islands could offer all the necessary support for a TV series and would provide an authenticity otherwise unobtainable.
Freeman, convinced by Boone's love of Hawaii, offered him the Steve McGarrett role; Boone turned it down, the role went to Jack Lord, who also shared enthusiasm for the region, which Freeman considered important. Lord had coincidentally appeared with Boone in the first episode of Have Gun – Will Travel, titled "Three Bells to Perdido".
Boone had shot a pilot called Kona Coast (1968), which he hoped CBS would adopt as a series ("I really don't want to do another series," he said "but I've been battling for three years to get production going in Hawaii and if a series will do it, I'll do it."), the network went with Hawaii Five-O instead. Kona Coast – which Boone co produced – was released theatrically.
Boone focused on films: 1969s The Night of the Following Day with Marlon Brando, the same year The Arrangement with Douglas for Elia Kazan, 1970s The Kremlin Letter for John Huston, and 1971s Big Jake with John Wayne.
Richard did some TV movies, 1971s In Broad Daylight, 1972s Deadly Harvest, and Goodnight, 1972s My Love. Moving to Florida around this time.
Boone starred in the 1970 film Madron, the first Israeli-produced film shot outside Israel, set in the American West of the 1800s. In that year, he accepted an invitation from Israel's Commerce Ministry to provide the Israeli film industry with "Hollywood know-how." In 1979, he received an award from Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin "for his contribution to Israeli cinema."
He starred in The Great Niagara (1974) and 1975s Against a Crooked Sky and supported John Wayne a third time, in Wayne's final film, 1976s The Shootist. In the mid 70s, Boone returned to The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City, where he had once studied acting, to teach.

Richard Allen Boone (1917 – 1981) was an actor who starred in over 50 films most notably for his roles in Westerns, including a starring role in the television series Have Gun – Will Travel.
After the run of his weekly show, Boone moved to Hawaii with his family.
Here are some interesting facts about Richard Boone…
Regularly returning to the mainland to appear in films such as 1964s Rio Conchos, 1965s The War Lord with Charlton Heston, 1967s Hombre with Paul Newman, and an episode of Cimarron Strip. The latter was the first time he guest-starred on someone else's show, as a favor for the director, friend Lamont Johnson. "It's harder and harder to do your best work on TV," he said.
In 1965, he came in third in the Laurel Award for Rio Conchos for Best Action Performance; Sean Connery won first place with Goldfinger and second place went to Burt Lancaster for The Train.
While living on Oahu, Boone helped persuade Leonard Freeman to film Hawaii Five-O exclusively in Hawaii. Before that, Freeman had planned to do "establishing" location shots in Hawaii, but principal production in Southern California. Boone and others convinced Freeman that the islands could offer all the necessary support for a TV series and would provide an authenticity otherwise unobtainable.
Freeman, convinced by Boone's love of Hawaii, offered him the Steve McGarrett role; Boone turned it down, the role went to Jack Lord, who also shared enthusiasm for the region, which Freeman considered important. Lord had coincidentally appeared with Boone in the first episode of Have Gun – Will Travel, titled "Three Bells to Perdido".
Boone had shot a pilot called Kona Coast (1968), which he hoped CBS would adopt as a series ("I really don't want to do another series," he said "but I've been battling for three years to get production going in Hawaii and if a series will do it, I'll do it."), the network went with Hawaii Five-O instead. Kona Coast – which Boone co produced – was released theatrically.
Boone focused on films: 1969s The Night of the Following Day with Marlon Brando, the same year The Arrangement with Douglas for Elia Kazan, 1970s The Kremlin Letter for John Huston, and 1971s Big Jake with John Wayne.
Richard did some TV movies, 1971s In Broad Daylight, 1972s Deadly Harvest, and Goodnight, 1972s My Love. Moving to Florida around this time.
Boone starred in the 1970 film Madron, the first Israeli-produced film shot outside Israel, set in the American West of the 1800s. In that year, he accepted an invitation from Israel's Commerce Ministry to provide the Israeli film industry with "Hollywood know-how." In 1979, he received an award from Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin "for his contribution to Israeli cinema."
He starred in The Great Niagara (1974) and 1975s Against a Crooked Sky and supported John Wayne a third time, in Wayne's final film, 1976s The Shootist. In the mid 70s, Boone returned to The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City, where he had once studied acting, to teach.

The 1950s are often considered to be the Golden Age of classic television. During this decade, the budding medium produced some of the most memorable and groundbreaking pieces of drama and situational comedies of TV history. The decade also gave us some of the most noteworthy stars as well. One of these stars is the man that we'll be discussing today in this facts-packed video.
Richard Boone was an American actor who was best known for his starring roles in Westerns including his iconic portrayal of a man called Paladin in CBS' Have Gun – Will Travel. The series aired both on the radio and on television from 1957 to 1963. Not only did Boone star in the series, but he directed many of its episodes and served as its narrator.
Boone's perspective was that television and the people that were making a living in the medium weren't living up to its full potential. For the six years that he played Paladin, Boone did his best to prove that he was more than capable of providing audiences with a compelling and entertaining narrative that captured their imaginations and swept them off to a bygone era of the American southwest that has come to take on this almost legendary status.
Throughout his acting career, Boone starred in over 50 films, but by the 1970s he was in the twilight years of his time in the spotlight. Boone eventually passed away on January 10, 1981, at the age of 63. In the years that proceeded his passing, he lived with strong resentment and deep animosity over how his career played out – especially in its latter years. Story:
Leslie Caron is Sister Mary, the sole survivor of an Apache attack on a wagon train. At first, he wonders what he’s gotten into, what with Sister Mary’s grand hours of silence, her insistence on burying the badest of bad men and her Friday fasts, even when she’s starving. But he soon grows more than a little fond of her, thanks in part to her surprising frontier moxy. Complicating matters are some Mexican bandits and a Apache named Sam Red. He and Madron have a violent history that has both men seeking vengeance.

Richard Allen Boone was an American actor who starred in over 50 films and was notable for his roles in Westerns, including his starring role in the television series Have Gun – Will Travel. Boone was born in Los Angeles, California, the middle child of Cecile and Kirk E. Boone, His mother was Jewish, the daughter of immigrants from Russia.
In his youth, Boone had attended the San Diego Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, California, where he was introduced to theatre under the tutelage of Virginia Atkinson. After the war, Boone used the G.I. Bill to study acting at the Actors Studio in New York.

This series follows the adventures of a man calling himself "Paladin". He is a gentleman investigator/gunfighter who travels around the Old West working as a mercenary for people who hire him to solve their problems.
Although Paladin charges steep fees to clients who can afford to hire him, typically $1000 per job, he provides his services for free to poor people who need his help. Like many Westerns, the television show is set in a nebulous time period of the 19th century, set after the American Civil War.
Richard Boone
Richard Allen Boone (18 June 1917 – 10 January 1981) was an American actor who starred in over fifty films and was notable for his roles in Westerns and for the TV series Have Gun – Will Travel.
Early life
Boone was born in Los Angeles, California, the middle child of Cecile (née Beckerman) and Kirk E. Boone, a well-to-do corporate lawyer. His father was a descendant of a brother of frontiersmen Daniel Boone and Squire Boone. His mother was Jewish, the daughter of immigrants from Russia.
Richard Boone graduated from Hoover High School in Glendale, California. He attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, where he was a member of Theta Xi fraternity. He dropped out prior to graduation and went to work in oil-rigging, bartending, painting and writing. He joined the United States Navy in 1941 and served on three ships in the Pacific during World War II, seeing combat as an aviation ordnance man and gunner on Avenger-class torpedo bombers.
Career
In his youth, Boone had attended the San Diego Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, California, near Oceanside. It was there that Boone was introduced to theatre under the tutelage of Virginia Atkinson, who spawned theatre interest in many who eventually found their way to Hollywood. Robert Walker, another Academy graduate and member of the school’s theatre club, Masque & Wig, became a close acquaintance of Boone's.
