Sanchez was born into a poor Mexican American family in Rio Grande City, Texas. During the Vietnam War (1969–73), Sanchez was in college. He spent one year at the University of Texas at Austin on an ROTC scholarship, eventually transferring to Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, where he graduated in 1973 with a double major in mathematics and history. Sanchez was named a Distinguished Military Graduate (DMG), meaning he was in the top 20% of all ROTC cadets in the nation. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army.
Sánchez was born, Ricardo Ángel Sánchez, on October 2, 1967, in Scottsdale, Arizona, Arizona, to parents Vicente and Fransica Sanchez, the youngest of six siblings, four brothers and a sister. He grew up in the Catholic Church, where he went to services alone, and was in a mariachi group with his father, when he was five years-old. Sánchez eventually came to faith in Jesus Christ, while he eventually became a non-denominationalProtestant, at The Free Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia, just outside Atlanta, Georgia, before relocating to San Antonio, Texas, to join John Hagee's Cornerstone Church.
Music career
His music recording career started in 2005, with the album, Unmerited, that was released on May 24, 2005, by Taseis Music. He released the subsequent two albums, Oh What a God, on May 25, 2011, and, It's Not Over, on August 2, 2011. His fourth album, Grand Symphony, was released on October 2, 2015, his 48th birthday, with Difference Media Group.
Ricardo "Rick" Sanchez is a writer, producer and video game industry executive.
Sanchez is currently writing the Resident Evil comic book series for Wildstorm and wrote a promotional comic book for NCSoft's Aion MMO.
Career
From 2005 until 2009, Sanchez was the Vice-President of Content for Turner Broadcasting's GameTap service. He oversaw all of the original game and video development, game licensing, and content strategy for the service. While there he became known for promoting the development of episodic games. He has written articles for Gamasutra and GameDaily and presented at the D.I.C.E. Summit on the subject of episodic games, establishing what he called the "Three Laws of Episodics" that are a guide for GameTap's development of episodic games.
In addition to working on episodic game development, Ricardo was the creator and executive producer of the Re\Visioned: Tomb Raider Animated Series, based on the Tomb Raider franchise featuring the voice of Minnie Driver and the creative talents of Brian Pulido, Warren Ellis, Ivan Reis, Cully Hamner, and Peter Chung among others.
Sanchez was then traded to the Philadelphia 76ers on September 10, 2007. The 76ers traded the rights to Sanchez on March 15, 2012 for Memphis Grizzlies forward Sam Young. On February 21, 2013, international rights to Sanchez were traded to the Miami Heat for center Dexter Pittman and a 2013 second round draft pick in an attempt to clear roster space for the Heat.
Sánchez came to the United States in 2007 to play for the USL First Division expansion franchise California Victory. When the Victory folded at the end of their first season he would sign with the Minnesota Thunder, the same team he scored an overtime goal against in the Open Cup earlier that season. In his first year with the Thunder Sánchez co-lead the team in goals, finishing with 10. He also accumulated four assists during the season.
The 2009 season would be a very productive year for Sánchez. He notched seven goals and co-lead the league in assists with eight, sharing the honor with Wes Knight. Sánchez also finished the season with 72 shots, ranking him second in the league behind Charles Gbeke on 73. At the conclusion of the 2009 season Sánchez was named to the USL First Division All-League First Team.
