A transit district or transit authority is a special-purpose district organized as either a corporation chartered by statute, or a government agency, created for the purpose of providing public transportation within a specific region.
In the United States, this is usually within one state, but in rare circumstances may cover two or more states. The term used depends on which part of the country the agency is created in. Typically, western states will create a "transit district" and eastern states create a "transit authority" but the type of agency is generally the same.
A transit district is created to give it the power of the government in dealing with solving problems related to transit issues. This includes the powers of eminent domain to obtain space for rights-of-way (e.g. for railways or busways), the ability to impose excise, income, property, and/or salestaxes to fund subsidies of operating costs of local transportation, and the ability to operate independently of the cities and counties that the transit district operates within. A transit district may also have its own transit police force, although in some areas the local police provide a special bureau for this purpose.
The Sacramento Regional Transit District, commonly referred to as RT, is the agency responsible for public transportation in the Sacramento, California area. It was established on April 1, 1973, as a result of the acquisition of the Sacramento Transit Authority. In addition to operating over 60 bus routes with connecting bus service in the Sacramento area covering 418sqmi (1,082.6km2), RT also operates a large light rail system. It is currently the eleventh busiest light rail system in the United States.
In addition to the city of Sacramento, RT serves much of the northern portion of Sacramento County which includes the incorporated cities of Citrus Heights and Rancho Cordova. The unincorporated areas of Sacramento County under the RT service area include Arden Arcade, Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Florin, Gold River, North Highlands, Orangevale, Rio Linda and Rosemont. The system formerly provided express bus service between Downtown Sacramento and Elk Grove until the mid-2000s when that city took over bus operations under the newly created E-tran. It also provided contracted bus service to neighboring Yolo County (covering West Sacramento, Davis and Woodland); those routes and operations were later taken over by Yolobus after its formation on January 3, 1982. In both cases, e-tran and Yolobus have retained the RT assigned route numbers for their routes as they continue to service Downtown Sacramento.

Sacramento Regional Transit begins final testing phase for new light rail trains
Sacramento Regional Transit is entering the final testing phase of its new low-floor light rail trains. The final phase, which SacRT is calling "burn-in testing," involves each train operating as if it is active, which means they will pull up to stations, open doors, deploy ramps, close doors and move on to the next station. It is meant to mimic an actual train in service.

An early history of the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (District), BART.
There's a common theme where transit activists and politicians want a world-class transit system. So they decide one day to just sort of do it.
This typically doesn't work, especially if it involves any sort of sci-fi.
BART is the case study for this. Let's take a look at what happened.
Thanks for waiting, a couple life things got in the way. I promise the next one, "California High Speed Rail", will be published at some point before CAHSR starts operation (Zing!).

The North County Transit District is working to address San Diego’s housing crisis and get more people to use public transportation. The agency plans to redevelop land around its transit stations for housing and commercial projects.
The goal of the project is to create more housing and increase ridership by building offices and shops at the transit stations.

This TV campaign boosted ridership levels by using a local Kings professional basketball star and other images to increase appeal to younger audiences.
My first ever OG CNG, and my first time riding a bus with a Cummins C Gas. and lemme tell you I hope these don't leave Sacramento for a long time. when I saw these in person. I knew I wanted to ride one but I was too late to catch the older ones but I managed to get this one. so enjoy this one while it's in Sacramento. and for those that are bus fans in Northern California Catch them while you can. it'll be a hunt but I can assure you, they are here.
Hope you enjoy
