States are the primary subdivisions of the United States, and possess a number of powers and rights under the United States Constitution, such as regulating intrastate commerce, running elections, creating local governments, and ratifying constitutional amendments. Each state has its own constitution, grounded in republican principles, and government, consisting of three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. All states and their residents are represented in the federal Congress, a bicameral legislature consisting of the Senate and the House of Representatives. Each state is represented by two Senators, while Representatives are distributed among the states in proportion to the most recent constitutionally mandated decennial census. Additionally, each state is entitled to select a number of electors to vote in the Electoral College, the body that elects the President of the United States, equal to the total of Representatives and Senators in Congress from that state.Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1 of the Constitution grants to Congress the authority to admit new states into the Union. Since the establishment of the United States in 1776, the number of states has expanded from the original 13 to 50. Each new state has been admitted on an equal footing with the existing states.
Built at a cost of $79.4 million ($724million in today's dollars) the ship is the largest ocean liner constructed entirely in the U.S. and the fastest ocean liner to cross the Atlantic in either direction. Even in her retirement, she retains the Blue Riband, the accolade given to the passenger liner crossing the Atlantic Ocean in regular service with the highest speed.
Her construction was subsidized by the U.S. government, since she was designed to allow conversion to a troopship should the need arise.United States operated uninterrupted in transatlantic passenger service until 1969. Since 1996 she has been docked at Pier 82 on the Delaware River in Philadelphia.
Design and construction
Inspired by the exemplary service of the British liners RMSQueen Mary and Queen Elizabeth, which transported hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops to Europe during World War II, the U.S. government sponsored the construction of a large and fast merchant vessel that would be capable of transporting large numbers of soldiers. Designed by renowned American naval architect and marine engineer William Francis Gibbs (1886–1967), the liner's construction was a joint effort between the United States Navy and United States Lines. The U.S. government underwrote $50 million of the $78 million construction cost, with the ship's operators, United States Lines, contributing the remaining $28 million. In exchange, the ship was designed to be easily converted in times of war to a troopship with a capacity of 15,000 troops, or to a hospital ship .
United States is the first full length hard rock collaborative album between hard rock guitar virtuoso Paul Gilbert and singer Freddie Nelson. The collaboration has been described as a cross between Queen and Mr. Big.
In 1881, after the Confederacy purchased the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Sonora, President James G. Blaine of the United States declared war. With the help of British and French forces, the Confederate States again defeat the United States in the Second Mexican War, forcing the latter to cede a portion of northern Maine to the Canadian province of New Brunswick. After this defeat, the United States turned to Germany for military assistance and training, and the national mood of the U.S. changed to desire of revenge against the enemies that surrounded the U.S.—Canada, from where Britain invaded the U.S., and the Confederacy.
List of United States light rail systems by ridership
The following is a list of all light rail systems in the United States, ranked by ridership. Also included are those urban streetcar/trolley systems that are providing regular public transit service (i.e. operating year-round and at least five days/week). This list does not include statistics for metro/rapid transit systems (see: the List of United States rapid transit systems by ridership for those). Daily and annual ridership figures are based on "average weekday unlinked passenger trips" (where transfers between lines are counted as two separate passenger "boardings" or "trips"). The annual ridership figures for 2014 and average weekday ridership figures for the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2014 come from the American Public Transportation Association's (APTA) Ridership Reports statistics for the second quarter (Q4) of 2014, unless otherwise noted (e.g. NJ Transit systems). References with supplementary (i.e. non-APTA) ridership figures are included in the System column.

The 10 Most Useless Urban Rail Systems In the US: Poor Frequency, Weird Networks, Bad Land Use
Many US cities are facing a serious housing crunch. Urban rail, whether it's heavy rail (like a subway or an elevated) or light rail (including the modern streetcar), should be a great tool for solving this problem. However! Many US cities struggle to build ridership on their rail systems, and the poor land use around their stations is certainly no help.
This video counts down the ten cities with the worst ridership per track-mile of urban rail service, and looks at some reasons for each city's underperformance.

What is the Best Light Rail System in the United States?
The United States has over 20 cities across the nation that have a light rail system: Which one is your favorite and why?
-
This video focuses on lightrails and not on streetcars or trams - there is a debate on what the differences are (what is your definition of lightrail? Did I include the correct systems in the United States).
-
I excluded streetcars/trams and light rails in Canada/Mexico because it would have made the video too long.
-
In some light rail systems, the system operates regionally across multiple cities and jurisdictions; however, the biggest city was identified that the lightrail serves and highlighted in this video (for ex: riverline is Trenton, NJ).
-
So what is your most favorite system and why? Do you agree with the assumptions made by this video?
What is your favor...

Regional Rail Systems in North America: Top 10 Train Networks That Connect Suburbs to Cities
We used to call these "commuter rail" services. But given regional transportation needs and a worldwide pandemic, Regional Rail is now the preferred term, with services focused on improving connections between suburbs and the central city. We'll look at historical US commuter rail providers like MBTA, SEPTA, Metro-North, LIRR, and NJ Transit, as well as taking closer looks at what our neighbors to the north (GO Transit in Toronto and exo in Montreal, and the Tren Suburbano in Mexico City) are up to.
Also, we'll spend some time exploring the new Moynihan Train Hall addition to NY Penn Station.

56 High Speed Rail Links We Should've Built Already
Nothing that exists in North America fits the definition of true high-speed rail. If we actually ever started building a network, where would we start? And how would we know when we were done? This video details a methodology for answering all those questions, then counts up 56 city pairs we really should've had high-speed rail service between long, long ago.

The following is a list of all light rail systems in North America, ranked by ridership. Daily figures for American and Canadian light rail systems are "average weekday unlinked passenger trips" (where transfers between lines are counted as two separate passenger "boardings" or "trips"), unless otherwise indicated. For light rail systems in the United States and Canada, these figures come from the American Public Transit Association (APTA) Ridership Reports statistics. For Mexico, the figures are obtained from Banco de Información Económica's Instituto Nacional de Estadísitica y Geografía (INEGI), and the daily figures represent daily passenger trips averaged from the monthly and quarterly ridership figures. All figures are from 2016 and the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2016, unless otherwise noted. "Daily boardings per mile" figures have been rounded to the nearest 5 or 10.
The question of which systems would count as "light rail transit systems" is debatable, so this table includes some systems (such as Toronto's) which are technically streetcars rather than "true" light rail.

What is your favorite metro system in Europe?

Nothing that exists in North America fits the definition of true high-speed rail. If we actually ever started building a network, where would we start? And how would we know when we were done? This video details a methodology for answering all those questions, then counts up 56 city pairs we really should've had high-speed rail service between long, long ago.

SUMMARY
=======
The annual ridership figures for 2017 and average weekday ridership figures for the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2017 come from the American Public Transportation Association's (APTA) Ridership Reports statistics for the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2017, unless otherwise noted (e.g. NJ Transit systems). References with supplementary (i.e. non-APTA) ridership figures are included in the System column.

SUMMARY
=======
Sources:
American Public Transportation Association - Transit Ridership Report - Q4 2016.
Banco de Información Económica - Instituto Nacional de Estadísitica y Geografía (INEGI) (Note: INEGI only provides monthly figures - figures in table above are for the Q4 2014 monthly average, then divided by 30 days to get the daily average.)

Here is my tier list of all the transit systems I have taken over the past year. This covers a lot of transit in the US and ranks it on a tier list of how good I consider a city's transit system to be.

What is your favorite metro system in Europe?

Check out @RMTransit for especially good Canadian content, but lots of international stuff, too -- https://www.youtube.com/c/RMTransit

Nothing that exists in North America fits the definition of true high-speed rail. If we actually ever started building a network, where would we start? And how would we know when we were done? This video details a methodology for answering all those questions, then counts up 56 city pairs we really should've had high-speed rail service between long, long ago.
