Refugees Not Criminals
The Nationality and Borders Bill will undermine the UK’s obligation to give all who seek asylum a fair hearing by discriminating against refugees depending on how they reach British shores. Those forced to take dangerous journeys to the UK will be treated as criminals.
We are asking the British public to email their MP to put immediate pressure on the Government to remove some of the most harmful elements of the Bill in order to protect refugees who have lost everything. Visit https://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/act to take action today.

Protecting refugees: 60 years and beyond - a Refugee Council film
To mark Human Rights Day (10 December 2011), the Refugee Council has made a short film to celebrate the protection of refugees in the UK over the last 60 years. The film, "Protecting refugees: 60 years and beyond", features the testimonies and thoughts of refugees who fled conflicts around the world and rebuilt their lives in the UK, in each decade since 1951 - the year the charity came together to offer support and advice to refugees. 2011 is also the 60th anniversary of the UN Convention for Refugees, created after WWII to guarantee refugees' rights. With the voice of Zoe Wanamaker. To show your support for protecting refugees on the 60th anniversary of the UN Convention for Refugees, please visit www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/protect

The Refugee Crisis Explained with the Vivienne Westwood Foundation and Refugee Council
The UK Government has wrongly weaponised refugees and people seeking asylum, denying the thousands who are fleeing conflict, violence and persecution the support and protection which are basic human rights, to push forward harmful new bills in parliament.
In an effort to cut through the deceptive and misleading mainstream news and media narrative, this Refugee Week, SHOWstudio and Nick Knight invited the Refugee Council's CEO Enver Solomon and Cora Corré from The Vivienne Westwood Foundation to explain the true realities of a broken asylum system in the UK. Refugee Council volunteer Mohanad shares his first-hand experiences and views as a refugee from Sudan, joining them to discuss the Government's dangerous Asylum Bill, how it treats children, and what the public can do to help.

Celebrating 10 years of refugee resettlement
In 2004, a group of Liberian refugees arrived in Sheffield. Many had spent years living in refugee camps in Guinea. None were able to go home.
Under what was then a brand new scheme; the Gateway Protection Programme, they were brought to safety in the UK and supported to rebuild their lives by the Refugee Council.
10 years later, the Refugee Council, Sheffield Council and groups of refugees who have been resettled in the UK since got together to celebrate the life changing nature of resettlement.
