Joseph Raymond "Ray" Conniff (November 6, 1916 – October 12, 2002) was an American bandleader and arranger best known for his Ray Conniff Singers during the 1960s.
Conniff was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts, and learned to play the trombone from his father. He studied music arranging from a course book.
After serving in the U.S. Army in World War II (where he worked under Walter Schumann), he joined the Artie Shaw big band and wrote many arrangements for him. After his stint with Shaw, he was then hired by Mitch Miller, then head of A&R at Columbia Records, as their home arranger, working with several artists including Rosemary Clooney, Marty Robbins, Frankie Laine, Johnny Mathis, Guy Mitchell and Johnnie Ray. He wrote a top 10 arrangement for Don Cherry's "Band of Gold" in 1955, a single that sold more than a million copies. Among the hit singles he backed with his orchestra (and eventually with a male chorus) were "Yes Tonight Josephine" and "Just Walkin' in the Rain" by Johnnie Ray; "Chances Are" and "It's Not for Me to Say" by Johnny Mathis; "A White Sport Coat" and "The Hanging Tree" by Marty Robbins; "Moonlight Gambler" by Frankie Laine; "Up Above My Head," a duet by Frankie Laine and Johnnie Ray; and "Pet Me, Poppa" by Rosemary Clooney. He also backed up the albums Tony by Tony Bennett, Blue Swing by Eileen Rodgers, Swingin' for Two by Don Cherry, and half the tracks of The Big Beat by Johnnie Ray.
"My Song 5" is the sixth and final single from American rock band Haim's debut studio album, Days Are Gone. A re-recorded version of the song featuring rapper A$AP Ferg was released as a single on August 15, 2014. A music video for the song was released four days later. On October 3, 2014, HAIM posted a cover version by Australian band MOVEMENT on their SoundCloud to celebrate one year anniversary of release of Days Are Gone.
"My Song 5" was released on October 6, 2014 on 10" picture disc vinyl.
The video for "My Song 5" was released on August 19, 2014. The video is set on a fictional talk show called Dallas Murphy (a parody of Jerry Springer and the original Ricki Lake show), featuring Haim and several other people playing roles. The show is hosted by Vanessa Bayer, and includes cameos from various other celebrities—Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend, Kesha, Big Sean, Grimes, A$AP Ferg, and Ariel Rechtshaid.
The song was featured in the teaser trailers for the second season of the MTV drama Finding Carter.
My Song may refer to:
My Song is an album by jazz guitarist Joe Pass, released in 1993.
Writing for Allmusic, music critic Scott Yanow wrote of the album "Pass naturally emerges as the main star, interpreting nine standards and two of his originals with taste, hard-driving swing, and creativity within the bop tradition. Pass made so many recordings during the 20 years preceding this date that it is difficult to call any one of them "definitive," but this is an excellent group effort."
"This Is My Song" may refer to:
This Is My Song was a Patti Page LP album, issued by Mercury Records as catalog number MG-20102 in 1957.
This Is My Song is a 1998 album by American soul singer, Deniece Williams. It was released on 10 March 1998, and was available on both CD and audio cassette. Though Williams' pop and R&B popularity was beginning to fade, the album peaked at #14 on the U.S. Billboard Top Gospel albums chart and was awarded a Grammy for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album that year. Williams wrote or co-wrote all ten songs on the disc and co-produced with Raina Bundy, CEO of Harmony Music.
