Ralph Neville (or Ralf Nevill; died 1244) was a medieval clergyman and politician who served as Bishop of Chichester and Lord Chancellor of England. Neville first appears in the historical record in 1207 in the service of King John of England, and remained in royal service throughout the rest of his life. By 1213 Neville had custody of the Great Seal of England, although he was not named chancellor, the office responsible for the seal, until 1226. He was rewarded with the bishopric of Chichester in 1222. Although he was also briefly Archbishop-elect of Canterbury and Bishop-elect of Winchester, both elections were set aside, or quashed, and he held neither office.
As keeper of the seal, and subsequently as chancellor, Neville was noted for his impartiality, and he oversaw a number of changes in the way the chancery operated. Neville was deprived of the Great Seal in 1238 after quarrelling with the king, but continued to hold the title of chancellor until his death. He died in his London palace, built on a street later renamed Chancery Lane owing to his connection with the chancery.
Ralph Neville, K.C. (13 September 1848 – 13 October 1918) was an English barrister, politician and judge of the Chancery Court.
Life
Neville was the son of Mr. Henry Neville, a surgeon, of Esher. He was born on 13 September 1848 and was educated at Tonbridge School and at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he graduated BA in 1871. At the university he was known as a good oarsman. He rowed in the Emmanuel May boat in 1868, when it was fourth on the river. He stroked the college boat in the C.U.B.C. fours, and it was beaten only in the final heat. In the same year he got his trial cap. though he did not succeed in getting into the University boat. Upon his call to the Bar by Lincoln's Inn in 1872 he obtained but little work in London, and, after a few years' waiting, he went to Liverpool as a "local," it is said upon the advice of Sir Henry Jackson, whose pupil he had been. There he practised in the Chancery Court of the County Palatine of Lancaster and in the Court of Passage. As a junior both in these Courts and on the Northern Circuit he acquired a large practice. Eventually he returned to London, and took silk in 1888. At this time, Sir Marshall Warmington was at the height of his renown, and Neville, who had the most versatile intellect, was looked upon as an easy second to him in the Court of Mr. Justice Kekewich. Soon, Warmington "went special" and Neville obtained the leading practice before that Judge, and afterwards before Mr. Justice Romer.
Earl of Westmorland is a title that has been created twice in the Peerage of England. The title was first created in 1397 for Ralph Neville. It was forfeited in 1571 by Charles Neville, 6th Earl of Westmorland for leading the Rising of the North. It was revived in 1624 in favour of Sir Francis Fane, whose mother, Mary Neville, was a descendant of a younger son of the first Earl. The first Earl of the first creation had already become Baron Neville de Raby, and that was a subsidiary title for his successors. The current Earl holds the subsidiary title Baron Burghersh (1624).
1397 creation
Ralph Neville, 4th Baron Neville of Raby, and 1st earl of Westmorland (1364–1425), eldest son of John, 3rd Baron Neville, and his wife Maud Percy (see Neville, Family), was knighted by Thomas of Woodstock, afterwards duke of Gloucester, during the French expedition of 1380, and succeeded to his father's barony in 1388. He had been joint warden of the west march in 1386, and was reappointed for a new term in 1390. In 1391 he was put on the commission which undertook the duties of constable in place of the duke of Gloucester, and he was repeatedly engaged in negotiations with the Scots. His support of the court party against the lords appellant was rewarded in 1397 by the earldom of Westmorland.
Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmorland, 4th Baron Neville de Raby,KGPCEarl Marshal (c. 1364 – 21 October 1425), was an English nobleman of the House of Neville.
Neville's father married secondly, before 9 October 1381, Elizabeth Latimer (d. 5 November 1395), daughter of William Latimer, 4th Baron Latimer. By his father's second marriage Neville had a brother and sister of the half blood:
At the time of Domesday Book in 1086, parts of the county were considered either to form part of Yorkshire or to be within the separate Kingdom of Strathclyde. The Normans conquered the area that is now Cumbria in 1092 during the reign of William II and created the baronies of Kendal and Westmorland. These were originally distinct jurisdictions with separate sheriffs, but were formed into a single county of Westmorland in 1226/7. Before 1226 the Barony of Kendal was connected to the Earldom or Honour of Lancaster while that of Westmorland was part of the Earldom of Carlisle.
The most notable incident in the life of the Westmorland occurred shortly after she sailed for Britain from Livorno under Captain Michael Wallace late in 1778, carrying a large monetary payment for her inbound cargo of salt cod from Newfoundland (Livorno was a trade hub for this commodity), food goods, and 57 crates of artistic objects collected by Grand Tourists such as the Duke of Gloucester, Sir John Henderson and the Duke of Norfolk.
In January 1779, she was given chase by four French ships, comprising two men-of-war, the Caton (64) and the Destin (74), and two smaller vessels. Wallace attempted to outsail them but, outgunned as he was, soon felt he had little option but to allow the French to board his ship. She was then allowed by Spain (then friendly with France though not yet— in formal terms at least— at war with Britain) to continue to Malaga.

It played a vital role in defending the realm against Scottish invasion.
Walking through the ruins in like stepping back in time as you try to visualise how it would have been in its day.
The castle was unusually not built on the highest point of the hill and the reason is likely to be that the ground it was built on was already fortified land.

Wars of the Roses - The House of Neville - English History - The Kingmaker
A quick and highly contextualized summary of the Wars of the Roses, (1455–85) that was a series of dynastic civil wars between the houses of Lancaster and York for the English throne. The wars were named because of the emblems of the two houses, the White rose of York and the Red of Lancaster.
An attempt was made for the very first time, to recreate the faces of Richard Neville, the 16th Earl of Warwick also known as the "Kingmaker," his two daughters Isabel and Anne who both married very charming princes.
Also we see the face of a less known prince which belongs to, George Plantagenet, Duke of Clarence.
Some scenes were taken and used from the brilliant movies of 'The King' 2019 and the masterpiece epic fantasy movie 'Excalibur' 1981.

"The Grail Kingship is within the realm of impossibilities"
