The mountain goat (Oreamnos americanus), also known as the Rocky Mountain goat, is a large hoofed mammal endemic to North America. A subalpine to alpine species, it is a sure-footed climber commonly seen on cliffs and ice.
Despite its vernacular name, it is not a member of Capra, the genus that includes all other goats, such as the wild goat, Capra aegagrus, from which the domestic goat is derived.
Classification
The mountain goat is an even-toed ungulate of the order Artiodactyla and the family Bovidae that includes antelopes, gazelles, and cattle. It belongs to the subfamily Caprinae (goat-antelopes), along with 32 other species including true goats, sheep, the chamois, and the muskox. The mountain goat is the only species in the genus Oreamnos. The name Oreamnos is derived from the Greek term oros (stem ore-) "mountain" (or, alternatively, oreas "mountain nymph") and the word amnos "lamb".
General appearance and characteristics
Both billy (male) and nanny (female) mountain goats have beards, short tails, and long black horns, 15–28cm (5.9–11.0in) in length, which contain yearly growth rings. They are protected from the elements by their woolly white double coats. The fine, dense wool of their undercoats is covered by an outer layer of longer, hollow hairs. Mountain goats molt in spring by rubbing against rocks and trees, with the adult billies shedding their extra wool first and the pregnant nannies shedding last. Their coats help them to withstand winter temperatures as low as −50°F (−46°C) and winds of up to 100mph (160km/h).
For many years, the sole member of the Mountain Goats was Darnielle, despite the plural moniker. Although he remains the core member of the band, he has gradually worked with a variety of collaborators, who have included bassist and vocalist Peter Hughes, drummer Jon Wurster, singer-songwriter Franklin Bruno, bassist and vocalist Rachel Ware, singer-songwriter/producerJohn Vanderslice, guitarist Kaki King, and multi-instrumentalist Annie Clark.
Throughout the 1990s, the Mountain Goats were known for producing low-fidelityhome recordings (most notably, on a cassette deckboombox) and releasing recordings in cassette or vinyl 7" formats. Since 2002, the Mountain Goats have adopted a more polished approach, recording studio albums with a full band, while still maintaining organically emotional lyrical motifs.
The film focuses on the basic facts of the rescue of hostages held when hijackers belonging to a splinter group of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine under the orders of Wadie Haddad boarded and hijacked an Air France plane. It recounts the events and response of the Israeli government and the controversy that the rescue stirred.
This version shows the difficult deliberations held by the Cabinet of Israel to decide on a top-secret military raid on the JewishSabbath by commandos; a difficult and daring operation carried out over 2,500 miles (4000km) from home, and an unwillingness of the Israeli government to give in to terrorist demands. One commando was killed (the breach unit commander Yonatan Netanyahu, brother of future Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu), as were three of the hostages, and 45 soldiers under the then dictator of Uganda, Idi Amin. A fourth hostage, Dora Bloch, who had been taken to Mulago Hospital in Kampala, was murdered by the Ugandans on Idi Amin's orders.
The word came from Luganda language e ntebe which means 'seat' / 'chair'. Entebbe was the seat of the colonial governor in the early 1900s, when the country was a British protectorate, and is now the location of the official office and residence of the President of Uganda, hence the name. Entebbe is the seat of power in the country.
Location
Entebbe sits on the northern shores of Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake. The town is situated in Wakiso District, approximately 37 kilometres (23mi) southwest of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. The municipality is located on a peninsula into Lake Victoria, covering a total area of 56.2 square kilometres (21.7sqmi), out of which 20km2 (7.7sqmi) is water. The coordinates of Entebbe are:0°03'00.0"N, 32°27'36.0"E (Latitude:0.0500; Longitude:32.4600).

How Mountain Goats Walk On Sheer Cliffs Subduing Gravity.
Every climber knows that mountains are unforgiving.
You have to move along the rocks very slowly, with a bunch of precautions so that, God forbid, you do not fall into the abyss, splashing your brains over the stones.

Every climber knows that mountains are unforgiving.
You have to move along the rocks very slowly, with a bunch of precautions so that, God forbid, you do not fall into the abyss, splashing your brains over the stones.
Apparently, no one told the mountain goats about this. That is why they jump on steep cliffs as if on level ground, as if gravity had no effect on them.
Mountain goats are divided into three groups: ibex, goats and tours. The difference between them is mainly in the structure of the horns.
Mountain goats are closely related to mountain rams, with which they have many similarities. However, mountain rams avoid steep cliffs, and live on smooth slopes, at an altitude of 2200 to 3500 meters above sea level.
Their more distant relatives are snow goats, chamois and gorals. In short, they have a lot of relatives.
But the question arises: how can mountain goats stand on tiny rock ledges, several thousand meters high, and even run on them?
What is their secret of climbing? Did they hack the laws of physics? Let's find out.

The Mountain Goats - This Year
I broke free on a Saturday morning
I put the pedal to the floor
headed north on mills avenue
and listened to the engine roar
my broken house behind me
and good things ahead
a girl named Cathy
wants a little of my time
six cylinders underneath the hood
crashing and kicking
aha!
listen to the engine whine
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me
i am going to make it though this year
if it kills me
i played video games in a drunken haze
i was seventeen years young
hurt my knuckles punching the machines
the taste of scotch rich on my tongue
and then Cathy showed up
and we hung out
trading swigs from a bottle
all bitter and clean
locking eyes
holding hands
twin high maintenance machines
i am going to make it through this year

LYRICS
I hope that our few remaining friends
Give up on trying to save us
I hope we come out with a fail-safe plot
To piss off the dumb few that forgave us
I hope the fences we mended
Fall down beneath their own weight
And I hope we hang on past the last exit
I hope it's already too late
And I hope the junkyard a few blocks from here
Someday burns down
And I hope the rising black smoke carries me far away
And I never come back to this town again
In my life, I hope I lie
And tell everyone you were a good wife
And I hope you die
I hope we both die
I hope I cut myself shaving tomorrow
I hope it bleeds all day long
Our friends say it's darkest before the sun rises
We're pretty sure they're all wrong
I hope it stays dark forever
I hope the worst isn't over
And I hope you blink before I do
And I hope I never get sober
And I hope when you think of me years down the line
You can't find one good thing to say
And I'd hope that if I found the strength to walk out
You'd stay the hell out of my way
I am drowning
There is no sign of land
You are coming down with me
Hand in unlovable hand
And I hope you die
I hope we both die

The Mountain Goats' John Darnielle keeps getting quieter, as his raw early bedroom recordings and bare-knuckle anthems continue to make way for polished ballads that whisper, seethe and mourn. The recent The Life of the World to Come at first feels strangely timid, but as its crushingly sad words sink in ("I am a flightless bird / There'll be no more after me," and so on), it hits slowly but deeply — less a punch than a gnawing ache.
In person, Darnielle's twitchy, nervous energy serves his fearless songwriting well: He exudes gentility and good humor in conversation, but his performances are utterly committed, with intensity that infuses his screams and whispers alike. In this solo Tiny Desk Concert, his four songs fit nearly into distinct categories: new and quiet ("Hebrews 11:40"), new and loud ("Psalms 40:2"), old and quiet ("Color in Your Cheeks," from All Hail West Texas), and old and loud ("Going to Georgia," from Zopilote Machine). It's no surprise that all four approaches serve him well.
Also, it should be noted that Darnielle drew a large and admiring crowd for this show, even though it appears in the video that it was attended exclusively by a photographer and the giant blond head of Lars Gotrich. Trust me: We wouldn't have missed this one for anything.
Set List
"Color in Your Cheeks"
"Hebrews 11:40"
"Psalms 40:2"
"Going to Georgia"

I broke free on a Saturday morning
I put the pedal to the floor

a girl named Cathy
wants a little of my time
six cylinders underneath the hood

aha!
listen to the engine whine
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me
i am going to make it though this year
if it kills me
i played video games in a drunken haze
i was seventeen years young
hurt my knuckles punching the machines
the taste of scotch rich on my tongue
and then Cathy showed up
and we hung out
trading swigs from a bottle
all bitter and clean
locking eyes
holding hands
twin high maintenance machines
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me
i am going to make it though this year
if it kills me
i drove home in the California dusk
i could feel the alcohol inside of me hum
pictured the look on my stepfather's face
ready for the bad things to come
i down shifted
as i pulled into the driveway
the motor screaming out
stuck in second gear
the scene ends badly
as you might imagine
in a cavalcade of anger and fear
there will be feasting and dancing
in Jerusalem next year
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me

Examining the nature of the beast.
Today we will talk about climbing, but not in the way you imagine it. Let's talk about the climbing that goats do. Yes, you heard it right. Today we’ll take a closer look at Alpine ibex, which are the true natural climbers. Their innate skills allow them to tread where few others would dare.

LYRICS
I hope that our few remaining friends
Give up on trying to save us
I hope we come out with a fail-safe plot
To piss off the dumb few that forgave us
I hope the fences we mended
Fall down beneath their own weight
And I hope we hang on past the last exit
I hope it's already too late
And I hope the junkyard a few blocks from here
Someday burns down
And I hope the rising black smoke carries me far away
And I never come back to this town again
In my life, I hope I lie
And tell everyone you were a good wife
And I hope you die
I hope we both die
I hope I cut myself shaving tomorrow
I hope it bleeds all day long
Our friends say it's darkest before the sun rises
We're pretty sure they're all wrong
I hope it stays dark forever
I hope the worst isn't over
And I hope you blink before I do
And I hope I never get sober
And I hope when you think of me years down the line
You can't find one good thing to say
And I'd hope that if I found the strength to walk out
You'd stay the hell out of my way
I am drowning
There is no sign of land
You are coming down with me
Hand in unlovable hand
And I hope you die
I hope we both die

We've been filming Tiny Desk concerts for more than 10 years. While revisiting our archives, we discovered that some of our earliest concerts never made it to YouTube!
Watch The Mountain Goat’s Tiny Desk concert from 2010: https://www.npr.org/2010/01/03/122106507/the-mountain-goats-tiny-desk-concert
Stephen Thompson | January 3, 2010

Feels like 27 degrees F with humidity this 7 am with Frosty the 3-legged goat.
The road below is OPEN. Wind gusts less and a warmer morning temperature.
AVI = Layers of old and new snow need to be measured in your area before you go into the backcou try. The afternoon warm temperatures creat a density heavy weight layer on top that can sheer and slide now with velocity. AVI HAZARD is a real danger now and the snow can crush you if you are caught in a river or slab slide in these new powder snow conditions #snowing . Be safe and be aware. The mountain gutters are set up now with overhanging cornices like a tourist trap ! The mountain can and will kill you if you don't pay attention.
the little goat lives in an igloo to stay warm outside and we let her inside to warm up and protect her from freezing -- we love her.

I broke free on a Saturday morning
I put the pedal to the floor
headed north on mills avenue
and listened to the engine roar
my broken house behind me
and good things ahead
a girl named Cathy
wants a little of my time
six cylinders underneath the hood
crashing and kicking
aha!
listen to the engine whine
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me
i am going to make it though this year
if it kills me
i played video games in a drunken haze
i was seventeen years young
hurt my knuckles punching the machines
the taste of scotch rich on my tongue
and then Cathy showed up
and we hung out
trading swigs from a bottle
all bitter and clean
locking eyes
holding hands
twin high maintenance machines
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me
i am going to make it though this year
if it kills me
i drove home in the California dusk
i could feel the alcohol inside of me hum
pictured the look on my stepfather's face
ready for the bad things to come
i down shifted
as i pulled into the driveway
the motor screaming out
stuck in second gear
the scene ends badly
as you might imagine
in a cavalcade of anger and fear
there will be feasting and dancing
in Jerusalem next year
i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me
i am going to make it though this year
if it kills me
