The Government of Israel (officially: Hebrew:ממשלת ישראלMemshelet Yisrael) exercises executive authority in the State of Israel. It consists of ministers who are chosen and led by the prime minister. In choosing ministers, the prime minister must appoint members based on the distribution of votes to political parties during parliamentary elections, and the composition of the government must be approved by a vote of the Knesset (the Israeli parliament). Under Israeli law, the prime minister may dismiss members of the government, but must do so in writing, and new appointees must be approved by the Knesset. Most ministers lead ministries, though some are ministers without portfolio. Most ministers are members of the Knesset, though only the Prime Minister and the "designated acting prime minister" are actually required to be Knesset members. Some ministers are also called deputy and vice prime ministers. Unlike the designated acting prime minister, these roles have no statutory meanings. The government operates in accordance with the Basic Law. It meets on Sundays weekly in Jerusalem. There may be additional meetings if circumstances require it. The prime minister convenes these meetings.
Israel (/ˈɪzreɪəl/ or /ˈɪzriːəl/; Hebrew:יִשְׂרָאֵלYisrā'el; Arabic:إِسْرَائِيلIsrāʼīl), officially the State of Israel (Hebrew:מְדִינַת יִשְׂרָאֵלMedīnat Yisrā'el[mediˈnat jisʁaˈʔel]; Arabic:دولة إِسْرَائِيلDawlat Isrāʼīl[dawlat ʔisraːˈʔiːl]), is a country in the Middle East, situated at the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and the northern shore of the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea. It shares land borders with Lebanon to the north, Syria in the northeast, Jordan on the east, the Palestinian territories (which are claimed by the State of Palestine and are partially controlled by Israel) comprising the West Bank and Gaza Strip to the east and west, respectively, and Egypt to the southwest. It contains geographically diverse features within its relatively small area. Israel's financial and technology center is Tel Aviv, while Jerusalem is both its self-designated capital (unrecognised by the United Nations) and its most populous individual city under the country's governmental administration. Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem is internationally disputed.
Israel David Bascón Gigato (born 16 March 1987 in Utrera, Seville), known simply as Israel, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a right midfielder.
During the 2006 off-season, in August, vastly underplayed at Betis due to the presence of Joaquín in his position, Israel spent time at Chelsea on trial after a move to Real Madrid Castilla failed to materialise. His trial was unsuccessful, however, and the player then left for Mérida UD on a loan deal.
The Land of Israel (Hebrew: אֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵלʼÉreṣ Yiśrāʼēl, Eretz Yisrael) is one of several names for an area of indefinite geographical extension in the Southern Levant. Related biblical, religious and historical English terms include the Land of Canaan, the Promised Land, the Holy Land, and Palestine (q.v. Israel (disambiguation)). The definitions of the limits of this territory vary between passages in the Hebrew Bible, with specific mentions in Genesis 15, Exodus 23, Numbers 34 and Ezekiel 47. Nine times elsewhere in the Bible, the settled land is referred as "from Dan to Beersheba, and three times it is referred as "from the entrance of Hamath unto the brook of Egypt” (1 Kings 8:65, 1 Chronicles 13:5 and 2 Chronicles 7:8).".
These biblical limits for the land differ from the borders of established historical Israelite and later Jewish kingdoms; over time these have included the United Kingdom of Israel, the two separated kingdoms of Israel (Samaria) and Judah, the Hasmonean Kingdom, and the Herodian Kingdom, which at their heights ruled lands with similar but not identical boundaries.

Israeli cabinet in disarray over Gaza strategy: Marwan Bishara
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly been discussing plans for 'what happens next' after the war on Gaza is over.
Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst Marwan Bishara discussed the leaked remarks from Benjamin Netanyahu, suggesting unrest and disagreement within the Israeli government. He highlighted that Israel appears to be at an 'inflection point', torn between prioritizing captives or defeating Hamas, and continuing war or exploring diplomatic avenues, all of which is potentially damaging to Netanyahu politically. Additionally, he suggested that the difference in casualty counts offered by Israeli hospitals and the Israeli army is revealing an unpopular government in crisis.
Bishara argued that international pressure is closing the window for Israel's bombardment strategy, compounded by the economic costs which are purportedly escalating to a quarter of a billion dollars a day. Further, Bishara predicted an increase in civilian deaths due to the intensified Israeli bombardment. He cast doubt on the Israeli military's 'progress' claims in the fight against Hamas, arguing that despite their superior firepower, Israel is losing the war strategically. On the Lebanese-Israeli border clashes, Bishara noted they seem to be contained for now, but cautioned any miscalculation could trigger a wider conflict.

The fourth thing, and I believe it is also within reach, is to dramatically expand the circle of peace."

STORYLINE:
Benjamin Netanyahu held his first cabinet meeting after being sworn into office on Thursday and said he will work "for all the citizens of Israel."
Netanyahu took the oath of office moments after parliament passed a vote of confidence in his new government.
His return marks his sixth term in office, continuing his more than decade-long dominance over Israeli politics.
His new government has pledged to prioritize settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank, extend massive subsidies to his ultra-Orthodox allies and push for sweeping reform of the judicial system that could endanger the country's democratic institutions.
The plans have sparked an unprecedented uproar from across Israeli society, including the military, LGBTQ rights groups, the business community and others.
Netanyahu is the country's longest serving prime minister, having held office from 2009 until 2021 and a stint in the 1990s.
He was ousted from office last year after four deadlocked elections by a coalition of eight parties solely united in their opposition to his rule.
Despite his political comeback, he remains on trial for charges of fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes in three corruption cases.
He denies all charges against him, saying he is the victim of a witch hunt orchestrated by a hostile media, police and prosecutors.
The diverse yet fragile coalition that toppled Netanyahu collapsed in June, and Netanyahu and his ultranationalist and ultra-Orthodox allies secured a clear parliamentary majority in November's election.

2. Cabinet meeting
3. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister:
"This is the sixth time I have formed a government in Israel. I can inform you that I am starting my 16th year as prime minister of Israel. My friends here can assume that they are already used to it, but I'm not used to it, I'm excited this time too. I am excited, first of all because of the enormous trust that the people of Israel have given us. I am excited because of the responsibility that lies ahead of us. I am excited because I know we have an excellent team, with great people imbued with a mission who will do the work for all the citizens of Israel."

5. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister:
"We have four main goals, which I defined today in my speech, I will repeat them because they are important: First of all, stop Iran. This is an existential question. First of all, we care about existence and security. Second, to restore security and governance within the State of Israel. Third thing, take care of the cost of living and the housing crisis.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu forged an emergency government on Wednesday (October 11) to direct war against Hamas, and his defence minister vowed to wipe the terror group "off the face of the earth" over its deadly weekend attack.
Hamas gunmen invaded Israel from the Gaza Strip on Saturday in a surprise assault that killed at least 1,200 people, the deadliest Hamas terrorist attack in Israeli history.
In a joint statement, Netanyahu and former defence chief and centrist opposition party leader Benny Gantz said they had agreed to form an emergency government comprising the two leaders and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
