Peter Hughes is a multi-instrumentalist currently with the band the Mountain Goats. During live performances, he accompanies leader John Darnielle on bass. His first official recording with the band was 2002's Tallahassee, but he also sang backup vocals on the song "Cubs in Five" from the 1995 EP Nine Black Poppies. That year, the Mountain Goats also dedicated an EP to him, Songs for Peter Hughes.
Peter Hughes (born 20 May 1922) is an Englishactor. In the 1950s, he was a stalwart of the Richmond Theatre repertory company with actress Anne Ridler. He played a recurring role as a bank manager in the BBC television series Bergerac and played General Franco in Alan Parker's 1996 film adaptation of Evita.
Pete visited the Irvinebank School of Arts on one of his many trips through Queensland with Jenny. It is a stunning and well maintained old hall and he was inspired to sit right down and write this song about it. Memories of days gone by come flooding back. Vocals, guitar and piano were all recorded live round a single stereo mic, with the tuba, drums and sax being added later.
