Luke 15 | Parables of Jesus: The Prodigal Son | The Bible
Jesus gives the parables of the prodigal son.
Luke 15:11–32
11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

The Prodigal Son: Luke 9-19
Part three explores the central part of Luke's Gospel. Jesus continues his controversial announcement of good news for the poor during his long road-trip to Jerusalem, which increases conflict with Israel’s religious leaders. This tension provides the setting for the famous parable of the Prodigal Son.

Parable of the prodigal son from the film Jesus of Nazareth
Jesus teaching the parable of the prodigal son, who wasted his inheritance on loose living and then repented and returned to the Father. Beautifully dove tailed cinematic piece combining the sometimes reckless zeal of Simon Peter with the son resentful of the prodigal child's welcome home in the story.
This scene is set in Matthew the tax collectors house. He invites Jesus to his home where there are prostitutes and they are having a banquet and party. Jesus goes against the will of his followers who think it would disgrace him to meet with such sinners. Jesus uses this event to teach about God's kingdom, He is willing to come where he is welcome
Two teachings in this parable
Firstly of Gods patience, love and acceptance of his children. God is waiting for his children to repent o...

Bible Month - Prodigal Son
Dear Parishioners,
As we enter the month of September, we are reminded of a special observance within our Catholic tradition – the celebration of September as the Month of the Bible. This month is dedicated to deepening our connection with the Holy Scriptures, the living Word of God, which is central to our faith and daily lives.
Why September?
This tradition is closely linked to the feast of St. Jerome, which we celebrate on September 30th. St. Jerome, a Doctor of the Church, devoted his life to the study and translation of the Bible, making it accessible to the faithful. His work reminds us of the invaluable role the Scriptures play in our spiritual journey.
How Can We Participate?
During this month, we encourage you to engage in the following practices to honor and embrace the Word o...

Which Son Are You? The Parable of the Prodigal Son
Found in Luke chapter 15, the Parable of the Prodigal Son is one of the most famous parables Jesus ever told. Charles Dickens referred to it as "the finest short story ever written." Consisting of 21 verses, this is the longest parable in the Bible and it is packed with numerous truths about God, the kingdom of heaven, and eternal life. Unfortunately, many people miss the context and main point of the parable. Don't make the same mistake! We hope this video is a blessing to you.

16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.
26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and entreated him.
29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

God is waiting for his children to repent of their sin and return to Him and follow his ways and attain fellowship with him. If we choose to ignore God and pursue sin then we cut ourself off from the Father. The Father loves us and wants our love and attention and it is best for us when we are with the Father who is the source of all life, comfort and goodness. The things of this world are temporal and fleeting, they are vain and are idols. The source of all life is Gods Spirit.
Secondly is the warning of those who are in Gods kingdom and who believe and follow Him not to be resentful of sinners and of iniquity when they repent and are also accepted into the kingdom. We have all been sinners and we should all rejoice when anyone repents and comes to God.

During this month, we encourage you to engage in the following practices to honor and embrace the Word of God more fully:
Bible Enthronement: Consider placing your Bible in a prominent location in your home as a sign of its importance in your life.
Daily Bible Reading: Set aside time each day to read and reflect on passages from the Scriptures. This daily practice will help deepen your relationship with God and provide guidance in your daily life.
Bible Study and Reflection: Participate in Bible study sessions or group reflections. These gatherings offer an opportunity to explore the Scriptures more deeply and to share insights with fellow parishioners.
Attend Mass and Listen to Scripture-Based Homilies: Our priests will be focusing on the significance of the Bible in their homilies throughout the month. Listen attentively and reflect on how the Word of God can inspire and direct your life.
Join Special Events: Our parish will be hosting various events, including retreats and study groups, to help you engage more deeply with the Scriptures. Please check our bulletin for more details.
Listen to Our Daily Podcast: We are excited to announce that throughout September, we will be reading the Word of God daily on our podcast, available on our YouTube channel. This is a wonderful way to stay connected to the Scriptures, especially if you are unable to attend Bible study sessions in person. Make sure to subscribe and tune in daily!
A Call to Renewal
This month is a time for us to renew our commitment to the Bible, not just as a sacred text but as a living Word that continues to guide and inspire us. Let us take this opportunity to immerse ourselves in the Scriptures, allowing God's Word to speak to our hearts and transform our lives.
May this Month of the Bible bring you closer to God and deepen your faith as we journey together in His Word.
Blessings

Luke 15 | Parables of Jesus: The Prodigal Son | The Bible
Jesus gives the parables of the prodigal son.
Luke 15:11–32
11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

The Prodigal Son Full Movie Luke 15:11–32
This is one of the parables of Jesus written at Luke 15:11–32.
The main message of The Prodigal Son is that it doesn't matter how far we stray from our Heavenly Father or how much we squander the gifts he provides, he is always delighted when we turn back to him. His unconditional love is waiting for us to return home where he greets us with open arms.

Take my hand
Go in peace

Part three explores the central part of Luke's Gospel. Jesus continues his controversial announcement of good news for the poor during his long road-trip to Jerusalem, which increases conflict with Israel’s religious leaders. This tension provides the setting for the famous parable of the Prodigal Son.

The main message of The Prodigal Son is that it doesn't matter how far we stray from our Heavenly Father or how much we squander the gifts he provides, he is always delighted when we turn back to him. His unconditional love is waiting for us to return home where he greets us with open arms.

Newer, studio recording of this song available here: https://youtu.be/5AM0N9VS9JI. Song also streaming on your favourite platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon and other streaming services!
An acapella SATB arrangement of Father, I Have Sinned (The Prodigal Son Song) sung by the Sunday 7pm Choir, recorded on March 6, 2016 at St. Francis De Sales Church, Ajax Ontario Canada. Our hope is that the music we make brings people closer to the Lord.
Lyrics:
Father I have sinned
Help me find my way
Remember not my sin
Just let me hear you say
Refrain:
I forgive you
I love you
You are mine
Take my hand
Go in peace
Sin no more beloved one
Father I have turned
My back and walked away
Depended on my strong
And lived life my own way
(Refrain)
Father I have closed
My heart to those in need
Thought only for myself
A victim of my greed
(Refrain)
Father I have loved
If love's the word to use
I've played so many games
They left me so confused
(Refrain)
Father I've returned
I'm home with you to stay
Standing by your door
Knowing that you'll say
I forgive you
I love you
You are mine
Take my hand
Go in peace
Sin no more beloved one
