The Parable of the Prodigal Son (also known as the Lost Son, Running Father, Loving Father, or Lovesick Father) is one of the parables of Jesus. It appears in only one of the Canonical gospels of the New Testament, the Gospel of Luke (Luke 15:11-32). Jesus shares it with his disciples, the Pharisees and others. According to the story, a father has two sons. The younger son asks for his inheritance before the father dies, and the father agrees. The younger son, after wasting his fortune (the word "prodigal" means "wastefully extravagant"), goes hungry during a famine, and becomes so destitute he longs to eat the same food given to hogs, unclean animals in Jewish culture. He then returns home with the intention of repenting and begging his father to be made one of his hired servants, expecting his relationship with his father is likely severed. Regardless, the father finds him on the road and immediately welcomes him back as his son and holds a feast to celebrate his return, which includes killing a fattened calf usually reserved for special occasions. The older son refuses to participate, stating that in all the time he has worked for the father, he never disobeyed him; yet, he did not even receive a goat to celebrate with his friends. The father reminds the older son that the son has always been with him and everything the father has belongs to the older son (his inheritance). But, they should still celebrate the return of the younger son because he was lost and is now found. It is the third and final part of a cycle on redemption, following the Parable of the Lost Sheep and the Parable of the Lost Coin.

The story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15 is one of the most memorable parables in the Bible. In it Jesus teaches the true meaning of mercy and forgiveness.
Here is a brief summary of the parable of the Prodigal Son:
1. A man had two sons. The younger son asked his Father to give him his share of his Father's inheritance.
2. The younger son (the prodigal son) spent all of what his Father gave to him on selfish ways of living.
3. The son hit a low point in life when he realized even pigs had more to eat than him. He resolved to return in humility to his father, not as a son but as a hired worker.
4. His father was filled with compassion and ran to his son with open arms to welcome him home.
5. The older son was jealous of the younger son when the father forgave him.
The word "prodigal" means spending money recklessly and wastefully. "Prodigal" comes from the original Latin word meaning "lavish," as in "extravagant," "rich," or "luxurious." The word can also refer to someone who leaves home and behaves recklessly just like the younger son in the story.
What does the Parable of the Prodigal Son mean for us today?
One of the best ways for us to read this story today is to imagine what it is like to be each one of the characters in the story. This will help us understand the meaning of this parable for us today:
Younger Son
- When have you been like the younger son?
- What sin have you committed and are you prepared to echo the words of the son in your own prayer: "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I am no longer worthy to be called your [son/daughter]."
Father
- When have you been like the Father?
- Who is the prodigal in your life?
- Are you ready to welcome him/her back with open arms?
Older Son
- When have you been like the older son, who was always faithful to the Father yet unable to forgive his brother?
- Who do you need to forgive in your life?
Father, forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us!

Found in Luke chapter 15, the Parable of the Prodigal Son is one of the most famous parables Jesus ever told. Charles Dickens referred to it as "the finest short story ever written." Consisting of 21 verses, this is the longest parable in the Bible and it is packed with numerous truths about God, the kingdom of heaven, and eternal life. Unfortunately, many people miss the context and main point of the parable. Don't make the same mistake! We hope this video is a blessing to you.

Part three explores the central part of Luke's Gospel. Jesus continues his controversial announcement of good news for the poor during his long road-trip to Jerusalem, which increases conflict with Israel’s religious leaders. This tension provides the setting for the famous parable of the Prodigal Son.

I am the son of Adolf Hitler my father was a monster and my mother oh poor mother sometimes it's hard sometimes it's heavy to carry and every son of should join their hands to tell the good people we're not sons of ... we're not sons of ... we're freaks I'm walking by the streets real screamings, real spits And here are your wives saying
