Solo is the musical outfit of Dutch musicians Michiel Flamman and Simon Gitsels. The duo released two albums, of which the latest Solopeople was the biggest success. The album released on label Excelsior Recordings spawned a Dutch top 20 hit with Come Back To Me.
Biography
Songs ’n Sounds (2003-2005)
In 2003 Flamman and Gitsels team up under the name Solo. By then both have already paid their dues in the music industry. Flamman performed under the name J. Perkin and wrote songs for other artists. Gitsels worked as sessions musician for Mathilde Santing and Birgit.
A year later the duo signs with Excelsior Recordings. On this label Solo releases its debut album Songs ‘n Sounds on August 16. The record is produced by Martijn Groeneveld and contains contributions from Minco Eggersman (at the close of every day), Rowin Tettero (Mindmeners) and Marg van Eenbergen (Seedling). The latter two also support Flamman and Gitsels during live shows. In November Solo receives an Essent award.
Solo is an orange-flavoured soft drink, owned by the Norwegian companies Ringnes, Oskar Sylte, Aass, and Mack. The recipe was originally Spanish, and brought to the Tønsberg Bryggeri by Torleif Gulliksrud in 1934. Solo quickly became Norway's most popular soft drink, and until the 1960s was bigger than Coca-Cola in Norway. In 1999, Pepsi passed Solo in market share, leaving Solo as third most popular.
As of 2005, Solo has a seven percent share of the Norwegian soft drink market. Variants of the original Solo include Solo Super (less sugar), Solo Sunset and Solrik (juice).
Solo was founded in 1997. The magazine targets young women between 18 and 35 years old. It is part of Aller media. Karin Nordin is the editor-in-chief of the magazine which is published on a monthly basis. Its headquarters is in Stockholm.
The game features randomly encountered battles which the controlled character or party of characters must fight or run away from. If a character dies in battle, he or she cannot be revived throughout the course of the game. The five characters have a specific skill that is necessary to complete the game, although items that serve the same purpose can be found if one of the characters dies. For example, should Akiko (the team's nurse) die, the team may find pill bottles which can be used to heal ailments. Depending on how many characters remain alive after the defeat of the final boss, there are a total of five different endings the player may receive.
The Lloyd Webber brothers were always very close but their two different careers (a rock musicalcomposer and a classicalcellist) meant that a collaboration seemed unlikely. It was not until Julian beat his brother in a bet on a Leyton Orientfootball match that Andrew was forced to write his cello work.
The play simultaneously examines the creative process behind Beethoven's Diabelli Variations and the journey of a musicologist, Katherine Brandt, to discover the meaning behind why Beethoven was compelled to write thirty-three distinct variations on a simple theme by a minor music publisher. The progression of her Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and her relationship with her daughter are also themes of the story, as is Beethoven's growing deafness.
The action takes place both in Beethoven's time and the present, switching back and forth between the two. However, at certain key points, characters from both time periods appear on stage to deliver lines simultaneously, emphasizing the parallels between the exploits of both sets of characters.
In Indo-European studies, a thematic vowel or theme vowel is the vowel *e or *o from ablaut placed before the ending of a Proto-Indo-European (PIE) word. Nouns, adjectives, and verbs in the Indo-European languages with this vowel are thematic, and those without it are athematic. Used more generally, a thematic vowel is any vowel found at the end of the stem of a word.
Proto-Indo-European
PIE verbs and nominals (nouns and adjectives) consist of three parts:
The thematic vowel, if present, occurs at the end of the suffix (which may include other vowels or consonants) and before the ending:
Athematic forms, by contrast, have a suffix ending in a consonant, or no suffix at all (or arguably a null suffix):
*ph₂-tér-s 'father' > English father
*h₁és-mi '(I) am' > English am
For several reasons, athematic forms are thought to be older, and the thematic vowel was likely an innovation of late PIE: Athematic paradigms (inflection patterns) are more "irregular", exhibiting ablaut and mobile accent, while the thematic paradigms can be seen as a simplification or regularisation of verbal and nominal grammar. In the Anatolian languages, which were the earliest to split from PIE, thematic verbs are rare or absent. Furthermore, during late PIE and in the older daughter languages, a number of athematic forms were replaced by thematic ones, as in prehistoric Greek *thes- 'god' versus *thes-o- > Classical Greek θεός (theós).

Vanessa Konte for SOLO
Vanessa’s been on our radar for a while. Her name pops up in edits left and right and we had her film a “One Minute SOLO” for us in the past. Every time you bring up her name to someone, they’ll tell you how rad they think she is. She’s gathered some loyal supporters and has been productive despite getting unlucky with a couple injuries in the recent past. Yet, she’s never had a real stand-alone video part or an interview. When we approached her about filming a part for us and getting photos for the mag, she wasted no time and went straight to work.

Mark Suciu in Stuttgart – Learning German and looking at spots | SOLO
We were working on an article with Mark Suciu for our recent issue while by chance it happened that Beirut played their first gig in years in Berlin which Mark did not want to miss out on. That’s why he flew over to Germany and planned to later on go skiing in Switzerland with his friend Ian from Coureur skate shop, who joined him on the trip. In between it fit perfectly to go filming with Torsten Frank and shoot some more photos for the article in Stuttgart. So we also booked a train ticket and spent two days with Mark who unfortunately arrived in town with a fewer and was greated by rain. TOLYA TITAEV – NO ONE, NOWHERE
Since Russia invaded the Ukraine, life has been turned upside down for Tolya Titaev. The owner of Moscow-based skate shop Oktyabr and Rassvet Skateboards has been jumping through hoops to get permanent residency outside of Russia while trying to maintain a normal life, working on new collections, and keeping his brand, business, and skateboarding on track.
