The Pretty Polly Stakes is a Group 1flathorse race in Ireland open to thoroughbredfillies and mares aged three years or older. It is run at the Curragh over a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs (2,012 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late June or early July.
History
The event is named after Pretty Polly, a successful filly foaled in Ireland in 1901. It was originally restricted to fillies aged three, but it was later opened to older horses. For a period it was classed at Group 2 level, and it was promoted to Group 1 status in 2004.
The Pretty Polly Stakes is a Listedflathorse race in Great Britain open to three-year-old fillies. It is run over a distance of 1mile and 2furlongs (2,012metres) on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket in late April or early May.
History
The event is named after Pretty Polly, the winner of the fillies' Triple Crown in 1904. It was established in 1962, and was originally staged at Newmarket's mid-May fixture. It was moved to early May in 1973.
The Pretty Polly Stakes sometimes serves as a trial for the Epsom Oaks. The last horse win both races was Taghrooda in 2014.
The race is currently held on the second day of Newmarket's two-day Guineas Festival meeting. It is run on the same day as the 1,000Guineas.

a Rambushka finished first in 1989, but she was relegated to second place following a stewards' inquiry.
The history of Ireland from 1691–1801 was marked by the dominance of the Protestant Ascendancy. These were Anglo-Irish families of the Anglican Church of Ireland, whose English ancestors had settled Ireland in the wake of its conquest by England and colonisation in the Plantations of Ireland, and now owned most of the land. Many were absentee landlords based in England, but others lived full-time in Ireland and increasingly identified as Irish. (See Early Modern Ireland 1536-1691). During this time, Ireland was a theoretically autonomous Kingdom with its own Parliament; in reality it was a client state controlled by the King of Great Britain and supervised by his cabinet in London. The great majority of its population, Roman Catholics, were excluded from power and land ownership under the Penal Laws. The second-largest group, the Presbyterians in Ulster, owned land and businesses but could not vote and had no political power. The period begins with the defeat of the Catholic Jacobites in the Williamite War in Ireland in 1691 and ends with the Acts of Union 1800, which formally annexed Ireland in a United Kingdom from 1 January 1801 and dissolved the Irish Parliament.

LA PETITE COCO wins the Pretty Polly in landmark Group 1 success for Paddy Twomey
La Petite Coco deftly made the step up to Group One class with victory in the Alwasmiyah Pretty Polly Stakes to give trainer Paddy Twomey a first Group One success.
The filly was a winner four times last season, taking a maiden and an auction race before gaining black-type status with victories in the Group Three Give Thanks Stakes and the Group Two Blandford Stakes.
A four-year-old daughter of Ruler Of The World, La Petite Coco had not been seen the latter run in September, and therefore had both top-calibre opposition and a 287-day break to overcome at The Curragh.
Neither hindered her as she raced prominently and held off the challenge thrown down by William Haggas’ 11-4 favourite My Astra to prevail by half a length at 9-1 under Billy Lee.

Bluestocking swooped late to grab the Group One honours in the Cairn Community Games Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh.
The Ralph Beckett-trained filly twice finished second at the highest level last term, beaten half a length in the Irish Oaks by Savesthelastdance and just a neck by Poptronic in the Fillies & Mares Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot.
Having opened her campaign with a six-length Middleton Stakes triumph and with the
Curragh ground easing all afternoon, Bluestocking was sent off a well-supported 11-10 favourite in the hands of Rossa Ryan, who managed to get his mount settled in behind as Lumiere Rock set the early gallop.
It looked as though Kieran Shoemark had made a race-winning move as he went for home on
Emily Upjohn two furlongs out, quickly building up a couple of lengths advantage.
Bluestocking was only just getting going, though, and she reeled in the leader through the final furlong, eventually passing the post half a length clear, with Content nearly four lengths further back in third.
“It was great. Rossa had an inkling that Emily Upjohn might go forward at some point. In a way it helped us, in a way it was tough for her to run down but it gave us something to aim at,” said Beckett.
“It’s great to get it done. Last Irish Oaks Day will live long in the memory for the wrong reasons but it doesn’t matter now.”
Beckett opted to leave the cheekpieces off Bluestocking this time and explained: “We thought about it but last time she travelled so well through the race we thought we’d leave them. We have the right to put them back on of course.
“I thought she was always going to get there in the end, I thought she was always going to pick up, as she finds plenty under pressure.”
Bluestocking was cut for a range of summer highlights and is 5-2 favourite with Betfair for the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood and the same price for the Yorkshire Oaks.
Beckett added: “You’d think the Nassau is the right place to go and she clearly enjoys York, she’s run well twice there, so the Yorkshire Oaks will probably be a good idea as well.
“I don’t think trip is that important, I just think conditions have to be right and they were today.”

Via Sistina led home a one-two for the British raiders when storming to a Group One triumph in the 2023 Yulong Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh.
Trained by George Boughey, the five-year-old arrived in Ireland having seen her impressive Newmarket win over Al Husn franked at Newcastle in the Hoppings Stakes, and the mount of Jamie Spencer was sent off the 6-4 favourite to give the Saffron House handler a first Irish win.
Spencer was in no rush aboard the progressive daughter of Fastnet Rock and had Via Sistina anchored alongside fellow raider, Hughie Morrison’s Stay Alert, in the early stages as Trevaunance and Above The Curve disputed matters at the head of proceedings.
There was little change in the order until the runners straightened for home, when both Ronan Whelan aboard Stay Alert and the big-race favourite began to plot a route to the front and it was Via Sistina who made the eyecatching progress when shown daylight by Spencer.
With energy to burn she was soon alongside Above The Curve disputing the lead with a furlong to run and although hanging right and causing interference to both the Rosscarbery and the eventual third Above The Curve in the process of making her challenge, she was full of running at the finish as she crossed the line with a two-length advantage over Stay Alert.
A stewards’ inquiry was called due to the interference in the aftermath, but the result remained unaltered as Spencer bagged Group One victories on successive Saturdays following last week’s shock success in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes aboard Khaadem. However, the jockey did get a six-day ban.
