It had been a fortified location since September 17, 1776, when New Spain established it to gain a foothold on Alta California and the San Francisco Bay. It passed to Mexico, which in turn passed it to the United States in 1848. As part of a 1989 military reduction program under the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, Congress voted to end the Presidio's status as an active military installation of the U.S. Army. On October 1, 1994, it was transferred to the National Park Service, ending 219 years of military use and beginning its next phase of mixed commercial and public use.
In 1996, the United States Congress created the Presidio Trust to oversee and manage the interior 80% of the park's lands, with the National Park Service managing the coastal 20%. In a first-of-its-kind structure, Congress mandated that the Presidio Trust make the Presidio financially self-sufficient by 2013, which it achieved eight years ahead of the scheduled deadline.
San Francisco is an album by jazz vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson and saxophonist Harold Land, released on the Blue Note label in 1971. The album features a shift away from the usual hard bop-post-bop style pursued previously by Hutcherson and Land, and shifts towards jazz fusion. Some CD reissues features a different track listing and add a version of "A Night in Barcelona" remixed by Tokyo Ghetto Pussy.

1. Tunnel Top Park - Situated atop the Presidio Parkway Tunnels, this new park covers 14 acres filled with relaxing lawns, artwork, food trucks and entertainment. Catch the first Sunday of every month here to see live shows. Tunnel Tops is the Presidio’s hottest place to be nearly every weekend. One of the best things about this park is its panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. You can even see the Palace of the Fine Arts from here! I highly recommend exploring this place as it is one of my favorite things to do in San Francisco.
2. Lovers’ Lane - The Presidio of San Francisco doesn’t just boast great views but also an amazing hiking trail that was once used by the Spanish long ago as a shortcut to Mission Dolores. Now, Lovers’ Lane is frequented by nature enthusiasts and those looking to catch some shade inside the Presidio. The trail is only .6 miles long or about 1 kilometer so don’t expect to get to out of breath on your hike through this forest. Passing by the tall Eucalyptus trees you’ll have a new appreciation of San Francisco’s Presidio.
3. Crissy Field - What may be the best place to relax or go for a walk in the entire Bay Area, Crissy Field is home to more than its fair share of things to do. I love coming here and consider this old abandoned US Army Airfield to be a great place to spend time with friends and family. With its breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay, Crissy Field is a place you won’t want to miss on your next trip to this lively city. It would be hard to compare it to Tunnel Tops but I believe Crissy Field offers a bit more to do because just right beside the field is Golden Gate Beach, an incredible place to pitch your tent and soak your feet in the ocean.
4. Batteries of San Francisco - Next up we have the batteries that line the coast. These batteries are all but deteriorated now but at the turn of the 20th century these batteries protected the coastline and ships from minesweepers. One such battery was Boutelle, armed with a massive gun that could fire 7 miles out to sea any enemy ship or U-Boat would be deterred from getting too close to San Francisco.
5. Baker Beach - Last on the list of things to do in the Presidio is Baker Beach. This beach is a great spot for catching views of the Golden Gate Bridge. It fills up very quickly on holiday weekend so be sure to come early if you want to get a good parking spot.
That’s everything! I hope you enjoyed this travel guide for the Presidio of San Francisco. Stay tuned for more videos and thanks for watching.

Hear from representatives from the National Park Service, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and the Presidio Trust, and learn more about the changes over the years throughout the park - from the now revitalized Main Post, to habitat restoration at El Polin Spring, to the scenic Crissy Field.
