A Supersonic Aircraft with a Silencer
The Quiet SuperSonic Technology aircraft is America's newest experimental plane.
A time-lapse video released by NASA in early 2020 shows the progress of the X-59, which has been referred to as the X-59 Supersonic Frankenstein. It’s assembly is using scavenged parts from iconic aircraft such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon, the NASA T-38 Talon, and the Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk.
Designed by the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works team, the aircraft will fly faster than the speed of sound over land and reduce loud sonic booms to a mere whimper.
The project also hopes to reopen the door for commercial supersonic speeds, after a travel ban that has prohibited them for almost 50 years...

Finally: NASA Revealed A New Supersonic Jet With A Silencer
Technologically speaking, humanity can already afford to travel at supersonic speeds. Back in 1969, the Concorde supersonic passenger aircraft made its first flight. However, it was taken out of service back in 2003, and the reason for this was ... the excessive sound that it made. NASA decided to put an end to this situation and develop a technology that would allow supersonic speeds to develop without such unpleasant effects on the environment. You’ll be learning more about NASA’s ambitious new project in today’s video.

According to NASA, a miniature X-59 with the same shape as the real model was placed in a 2.4m by 1.8m supersonic wind tunnel. With the action of the air against the aircraft, it was possible to verify the shock waves produced by friction.
Cameras and sensors collected the results and determined the energetic force exhaled by the prototype.
NASA's wind tunnel tests researcher said, With the X-59, they want to demonstrate that they can reduce the sonic boom to something much quieter known as sonic thuds.
X-59: crash test
The crash test was filmed by the US space agency with the schlieren technique, which captures the visualization of the shock waves formed by the friction of the wind with the aircraft. Internal sensors, located inside the prototype, measured the intensity of this shock and revealed promising levels when scaled up to full scale.
Schlieren images and pressure measurement are critical for NASA to be able to compare wind tunnel data with computer modelling. These features improve the team's ability to understand and predict actual sonic beats during future X-59 flights.
If NASA manages to transform the booms into small sonic beats, we may have a change in the regulations for supersonic flights over the continent, which are now banned worldwide.
It is worth remembering that other companies continue to work on the development of supersonic aircraft, such as Boom Supersonics, which has already negotiated some units with United Airlines.
So what do you think? Can NASA fulfil silent supersonic flight?
Thanks for watching.

Modern technologies now make it possible to implement even the most daring and revolutionary ideas. In this video, you'll learn all about one experimental aircraft that's preparing to revolutionize the field of supersonic flight. We're talking about the Lockheed Martin X 59 Quest, an aircraft that could become the symbol of an insatiable thirst for progress and a herald of change that promises to rewrite the laws of aviation, Let's take a closer look. The main obstacle against supersonic aviation has, from the very moment of its appearance up until today, been the sonic boom. In an effort to tame this beast, Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works, known as the developer of the most daring experimental aircraft, partnered with NASA to create the first silent supersonic aircraft the X 59 Quest. Its acronym stands for Quiet Supersonic Technology. the X 59 produces a minimum low noise of 75 decibels DB even when reaching its top speeds of Mach 1.4, or about 925 miles per hour, at 55,000 feet. The noise is comparable to the sound of a car door closing and is about 25,000 feet higher than a standard commercial Airbus. the unique design of the X 59. Its long narrow airframe and canards prevent shock waves from coalescing in a typical aircraft design. However, shock waves begin to collect behind the vehicle when it reaches transonic speeds close to the speed of sound and when it breaks the sound barrier. Supersonic shock waves collide with each other, creating a sonic boom.
