A point-and-shoot camera, also called a compact camera, is a still camera designed primarily for simple operation. Most use focus free lenses or autofocus for focusing, automatic systems for setting the exposure options, and have flash units built in.
Point-and-shoots are by far the best selling type of separate camera, as distinct from camera phones. They are popular with people who do not consider themselves photographers but want easy-to-use cameras for snapshots of vacations, parties, reunions and other events. Point-and-shoot camera sales declined after about 2010 as smartphones overtook them in such uses.
Many superzoom compact cameras have optical zoom up to 30x and weigh less than 300 grams, much less than bridge cameras and DSLRs. All use 1/2.3" sensors. They prioritize intelligent Auto, but some high end P&S cameras have PSAM mode dial, Raw image format, and hotshoe. None have lens threads.
Henry Bond, FHEA (born 13 June 1966) is an English writer, photographer and visual artist. In his Lacan at the Scene (Slavoj Žižek, series ed., Short Circuits, MIT Press, 2009), Bond made contributions to theoretical psychoanalysis and forensics.
Bond's visual art tends to appropriation and pastiche; he has exhibited work made collaboratively with YBA artists including a photograph made with Sam Taylor-Wood and the Documents Series, made with Liam Gillick. In the 1990s, Bond was a photojournalist working for British fashion, music, and youth culture magazine The Face. In 1998, his photobook of street fashions in London The Cult of the Street was published. His Point and Shoot (Cantz, 2000), explored the photo-genres of surveillance, voyeurism and paparazzi photojournalism.
Point and Shoot is a documentary film written and directed by two-time Academy Award nominee Marshall Curry. It was produced by Marshall Curry, Elizabeth Martin and Matthew VanDyke.
Synopsis
Point and Shoot tells the story of Matthew VanDyke, a sheltered 26-year-old who left his Baltimore home and set off on a self-described “crash course in manhood.” While on a 35,000-mile motorcycle trip through Northern Africa and the Middle East, he struck up an unlikely friendship with a Libyan hippie. When revolution broke out in Libya, VanDyke decided to join his friend in the fight against dictator Muammar Gaddafi. With a gun in one hand and a camera in the other, VanDyke joined and documented the war until he was captured by Gaddafi forces and held for six months in solitary confinement.

The film was acquired by theatrical distributors The Orchard and was released in theaters on October 31, 2014.
Critical response
The film has a 72% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In the Washington Post, Ann Hornaday described the film as an "absorbing, ingeniously crafted documentary" that gives the viewer a "street-level glimpse of the realities of war."Stephen Holden wrote in the New York Times that the film suggests "the addictive rush of battlefield adventure is hard-wired into the male psyche."Peter Bradshaw criticized the film in The Guardian, stating that the movie focusses on VanDyke himself and fails to explore the wider geopolitical context of the Libyan conflict.
