Brian Thompson (born August 28, 1959) is an American character actor. Thompson has played parts ranging from the Zen Buddhist Birkenstock-wearing sheriff of Key West, to the raging psycho cult leader in the film Cobra, the universe-conquering super villain in Mortal Kombat II, and numerous science fiction, fantasy, and comedy films, including the part of Buffalo Bob where he "put Joe Dirt in the hole" in Joe Dirt.
Thompson was born in Ellensburg, Washington, and raised in Longview. He attended Central Washington University, where he studied business management, played football, and appeared in many school productions. He then moved to California and received a Masters of Fine Arts from University of California-Irvine. He initially trained and pursued a career in musical theater, performing at Riverside Civil Light Opera's production of "The King and I", Long Beach Civic Light Opera's "Bittersweet", and several other musicals. In 1982, he was a resident actor at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival.
Brian Thompson is a British yachtsman, born on 5 March 1962.
Brian made it into the history books by becoming the first Briton to break the Round the World sailing record twice. Also the first to sail non stop around the world 4 times. A vastly experienced and successful offshore racer on all types of high performance yachts – from 21 foot Mini Transat racers to 140 foot Maxi Trimarans.
In 2005, he won the Oryx Quest, round the world crewed race, on Doha 2006, ex-Club Med. In 2006, he won the Volvo Ocean Race on ABN AMRO One as a crewmember of Mike Sanderson. The same year, he finished 6th in the Route du Rhum, in IMOCA class. He finished 5th of the Vendée Globe 2008-2009 on a 60 feet IMOCA class Bahrein Team Pindar.
In 2012 he won the Jules Verne Trophy as helmsman and trimmer for Loïck Peyron, on the maxi-multihull Banque Populaire V. He then became the first British sailor with four non-stop laps of the world.
Brian Thompson has been New Jersey Bureau Reporter for WNBC since 1998. Thompson, who has done extensive political reporting for several television stations throughout the United States, joined WNBC in 1996. He is the winner of one Emmy Award and many journalism awards.

Moment Manhattan assassin shoots dead UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson outside Hilton
CEO Brian Thompson, 50, was reportedly shot to death by a masked man in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning.
Witnesses told the Post that the suspected shooter wasn't a hotel guest but was seen milling around the entrance until Thompson arrived.
The suspect then reportedly opened fire and shot Thompson several times before bolting down a nearby alley on a bike.
No arrests have been made, and a citywide search has been launched for any suspects.
