England - The Beautiful and Gothic Cathedral at Arundel

"Thou findest here what thou wilt wish at last, And that account which none can ever shun; Then frame thy life before thy time be past, As thou wilt wish that thou in time hadst done: Lest thou in vain doth wail thy wretched state, When time is past and wailing comes too late."
A poem by Philip Howard, 13th Earl of Arundel (1557-1595), an English nobleman, translator, and one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.

England Tourist Arundel Cathedral Sussex
Set high on a hill, dominating the skyline and overlooking the ancient town of Arundel, is the Cathedral Church of Our Lady and St. Philip Howard.
Lower down the hill is Arundel Castle, seat of the Dukes of Norfolk. The church, which was made a Cathedral as recently as 1965, was founded by Henry Fitzalan-Howard, 15th Duke of Norfolk, in 1868. Built in the French Gothic style that would have been popular between 1300 and 1400 it was completed in 1873 and opened to the public on July 1st of that year.
The Church was originally dedicated to Our Lady and St. Philip Neri. Following the canonisation of the martyr Philip Howard, 20th Earl of Arundel, by Pope Paul VI in 1970, as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales and the reburial of his relics in the Cathedral, the dedication was chan...

Arundel Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral in West Sussex, England. Dedicated in 1873 as the Catholic parish church of Arundel, it was not designated a cathedral until the foundation of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton in 1965. It now serves as the seat of the Bishop of Arundel and Brighton.
The Cathedral's location, construction, design, and dedication owe much to the Howard Family, who, as Dukes of Norfolk and Earls of Arundel are the most prominent English Catholic family, and rank first in the Peerage of England.
While Arundel Castle has been the seat of the Howards' ancestors since 1102, Roman Catholic worship was suppressed in Arundel and elsewhere in England by the Conventicle Act of 1664. Thus, all churches and cathedrals in England were transferred to the Church of England in the period before the Catholic Emancipation Act of 1829.
In 1868, forty years after the foundation of Roman Catholic parishes became again legal, Henry Fitzalan-Howard, 15th Duke of Norfolk commissioned architect Joseph Hansom to design a new Roman Catholic sanctuary as a suitable counterpart to Arundel Castle. The architectural style of the cathedral is French Gothic, a style that would have been popular between 1300 and 1400—the period in which the Howards and the Dukes of Norfolk rose to national prominence in England.
The church was originally dedicated to Our Lady and St Philip Neri, but in 1971, following the Canonisation of Philip Howard, 20th Earl of Arundel and the reburial of his relics in the Cathedral, the dedication was changed to Our Lady and St Philip Howard. (from Wikipedia.)

A few days before the celebration of Corpus Christi (60 days after Easter) a carpet of flowers is laid down the Cathedral’s central aisle by Cathedral parishioners. Open for public viewing, usually the day before and on the day of the celebration, thousands come to visit the Cathedral and see the flowers. The flowers are trampled underfoot by worshipers at the 5.30pm Mass, which is followed by procession to the Castle for Benediction.
