Zaha Hadid Architects | Bogota International Convention Centre
Our vision for the new convention centre reaches beyond the mere building, aiming at the creation of a new business and civic node for the city of Bogotá that embodies values of functionality, interactivity and innovation, and can act as a catalyst for urban, social, economic and environmental regeneration. The project presents an opportunity to structure a dynamic concept of building and public space, configuring a new urban order with significant improvements to the site's technical, environmental and public space conditions.
Within the site's demise, the design will seek to articulate, complement and integrate, as necessary, the new Convention Centre with both, the Exhibition Centre and the Bogotá Water and Sewage Company Buildings. This can be achieved in various levels, which will ran...

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation Phase 1 of India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), called ‘Yashobhoomi’, at Dwarka, New Delhi on 17th September 2023 at 11 AM.
#yashobhoomi #narendramodi #latestnews
The Prime Minister’s vision of having a world class infrastructure for hosting meetings, conferences and exhibitions in the country will be strengthened with the operationalization of ‘Yashobhoomi’ at Dwarka.
With a total project area of over 8.9 lakh square metres and total built up area of more than 1.8 lakh square metres, ‘Yashobhoomi’ will find its place among the world’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities.
‘Yashobhoomi’, which is developed at a cost of around Rs. 5400 crore, boasts of a magnificent Convention Centre, multiple Exhibition halls and other facilities.
The Convention Center, built across more than 73 thousand square metres of area, comprises 15 convention rooms including the Main auditorium, the Grand ballroom and 13 meeting rooms with a total capacity of holding 11,000 delegates. The Convention centre has the largest LED media facade in the country. The plenary hall in the Convention Center is equipped with a seating capacity of around 6,000 guests. The auditorium has one of the most innovative automated seating systems which allows the floor to be a flat floor or an auditorium style tiered seating for different seating configurations. The wooden floors and the acoustic wall panels used in the auditorium will ensure the world class experience for the visitor. The Grand Ballroom, with a unique petal ceiling, can host around 2,500 guests. It also has an extended open area that can seat up to 500 people. The 13 meeting rooms that are spread across eight floors are envisaged to hold a variety of meetings of different scales.
‘Yashobhoomi’ also offers one of the largest Exhibition halls in the world. These Exhibition halls, built across over 1.07 lakh square metres, will be utilised for hosting exhibitions, trade fairs, and business events, and are connected to a grand foyer space which is uniquely designed with copper ceiling which filters light in the space through the various skylights. Foyer will house various support areas such as Media rooms, VVIP lounges, Cloak facilities, visitor information centre, ticketing among others.
All public circulation areas in ‘Yashobhoomi’ have been designed in such a way that it represents continuity with convention centres outdoor space. It is made of materials and objects inspired from Indian culture in the form of terrazzo floors with Brass inlay representing rangolis patterns, suspended sound absorbent metal cylinders and lit up patterned walls.
‘Yashobhoomi’ also demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability as it is equipped with a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system with 100% wastewater reuse, provisions of rainwater harvesting, and its campus has received Platinum certification from CII’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
‘Yashobhoomi’ is also equipped with high-tech security provisions to ensure safety for the visitors. The underground car parking facility for over 3,000 cars is also equipped with more than 100 electric charging points.
‘Yashobhoomi’ will also be connected to Delhi Airport Metro Express line with the inauguration of the new metro station ‘Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25’. The new Metro Station will have three subways - a 735m long subway connecting the station to the Exhibition halls, convention centre, and Central Arena; another connecting the entry/exit across Dwarka Expressway; while the third one connecting the Metro station to the foyer of the future Exhibition halls of ‘Yashobhoomi’.

This can be achieved in various levels, which will range from the association/affiliation of its relevant programmatic areas to the integration of its public and green spaces.

The multi award-winning #Vancouver Convention Centre West is LEED® Platinum for New Construction and LEED® Platinum for Existing Buildings and is the first #conventioncenter in the world to receive this highest level of LEED certification. Designed by LMN Architects, it occupies a former brownfield site on the downtown Vancouver, BC waterfront and lies approximately 14 acres on land and 8 acres over water. Appearing 12 stories above Coal Harbor, landscape architects PWL Partnership led the design team for the 6-acre self-regenerating living roof. With floor-to-ceiling glass throughout the expansion, the Soprema Sopranature green roof encompasses over 26 different species comprising 400,000 indigenous plants, grasses, and seed, providing natural habitat to birds, insects, and small mammals.
The largest in Canada and the largest non-industrial green roof in North America, this unique ecosystem is planted over 12″ of growing media and is home to 4 European honey beehives, providing pollination and honey for the ‘scratch’ kitchen. The green roof is designed to act as an insulator, projected to reduce summer heat gains up to 95% and winter heat losses up to 26%. The roof slopes are quite unique, ranging from 3 to 56%. The walkway areas between the Convention Centre and Seaplane Court have green roofs of varying slopes, terminating in 81 degrees. The American Hydrotech GardNet® system was installed to retain the dramatic slopes and 1-gallon plants were planted within the cells. Entomologists from the University of British Columbia are using the roof to study insects and learn how living roofs contribute to biodiversity in urban environments.
Some other sustainable elements include: a restored marine habitat built into the foundation dramatically improves the water quality and growth of a large variety of sea life; a sophisticated black water treatment plant recycles grey and black water for toilet use and rooftop irrigation with moisture sensors and 43 kilometers of drip irrigation; and the building program recycles an average of 180,000 kilograms of materials annually, nearly half of the total volume of waste generated.
Offering spectacular views of Vancouver Harbor with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the Vancouver Convention Centre West creates a community experience that is simultaneously a building, an urban plaza, a park, and the most visible evidence of the project’s deep approach to ecology – its living roof, mixing the energy of convention visitors with the life of the city.

The Skyway in Jacksonville, Florida - They want to replace it with automated cars...
The Jacksonville Skyway is a people mover in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. It is an automated people mover system operated by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA). Opening in 1989 with three stations in Downtown Jacksonville, the Skyway was extended in 1996 following a conversion from its original technology to Bombardier Transportation equipment. It was expanded again in 1998 and 2000. The system currently comprises two routes across 2.5 miles (4.0 km) of track, serving eight stations, and crosses the St. Johns River on the Acosta Bridge. There is currently no fare to ride the Skyway, which had 1.2 million passengers in 2014.

Why the Jacksonville Skyway failed
The Jacksonville Skyway has been the subject of criticism since its inception. This downtown, elevated, driverless transportation system is one of the few examples of an Automated People Mover built in the US with support from the Urban Mass Transportation Administration (the others being Miami’s Metromover and the Detroit People Mover).
Like most transportation systems from its era, the original plan was a lot more ambitious and comprehensive than the one that ended up being built. Almost 40 years later, Miami’s downtown people mover is seeing soon-to-come expansions while the Skyway might be scrapped for an automated mini-shuttle bus.

There is currently no fare to ride the Skyway, which had 1.2 million passengers in 2014.
In December 2016 preference was given for replacement of the monorail by shared autonomous vehicles that would see vehicles run on the elevated route currently used by the monorail but also continue on an extended network at street level. The system would have some similarity to personal rapid transit or group rapid transit except at ground level it will either run in mixed traffic or its lanes will have grade crossings with other traffic.
In December 2017, JTA launched the U²C AV Test and Learn track which serves as an outdoor classroom to test and evaluate multiple vehicles and their associated technologies from the AV shuttle industry. As of 2020 vehicles from three different suppliers have been trialed. In 2019 the JTA indicated an interim phase would involve the modification of one of the monorail beams to allow use by autonomous vehicles while the Skyway continues to run on the other side.
JTA revealed more detailed plans in 2020 that the U2C network will have 10 route miles - elevated track and ground level roadways - also covering surrounding suburbs such as San Marco, Springfield, and Brooklyn/Riverside (with the future possibility of connecting it with the proposed First Coast Commuter Rail network)
In May 2021 the Jacksonville City Council voted to remove $132 million from the budget for the U²C, leaving $240 million for the project ~Wikipedia
